Heart's Desire-Chapter 8

By: Panda Angel

“Isn’t it sad that I’m 24 and I still watch cartoons?” Kelly asked jokingly as the theme song for ‘Rugrats’ came on the television.
“Nah…not at all. Here,” Nick said handing his wife a hot cup of coffee.
“Thanks honey. Ya know what?” Kelly asked taking a sip of her black coffee and two sugars…just the way she liked it.
“What’s that?” Nick questioned looking from his wife to the cartoon children on the television screen.
“Angelica reminds me of Sofie. Don’t you think she does?” Kelly asked referring to Brian and Ang’s two year old daughter.
Nick laughed and nodded his head in agreement, carefully taking a sip of his steaming coffee.
“Where was Sofie last night anyway?” Kelly asked turning to her husband.
“Brian said that she was staying at Ang’s grandmother’s for the night.”
“Oh, I was wondering since I didn’t see her. Nick?” Kelly suddenly got a serious look on her face.
“Yeah?” he asked facing his wife, mirroring her serious expression.
“How would you feel if I told you I was pregnant right now?” she asked, staring deep into his crystal blue eyes.
“Why? Are you?” he interrogated, sitting his cup of coffee on the table, as his voice level rose.
“No, I’m not,” Kelly answered truthfully, the sadness reflecting in her blue eyes.
“I was just wondering how you would feel about it if I were.”
“Well, it would be ok I guess. I’m glad that you’re not pregnant, though,” Nick said getting up to get dressed for the day ahead of them.
“Yeah, okay,” Kelly mumbled under her breath, blankly watching the television.
After the married couple got dressed and ready, they headed outside to go fishing. They walked over to the edge of the lake and prepared to go wading in the water.
“Nick, the water’s going to be cold!” Kelly whined, backing away from the lake.
“C’mon, it won’t be that bad,” he persisted, pulling her back by her arm, as she headed back toward the cabin.
“Baby, I don’t want to,” she pouted, slightly protruding her lower lip.
“Kel, it’s not that cold. Besides, I’ll keep ya warm,” he winked flirtatiously at his wife.
Kelly just rolled her eyes and laughed at Nick’s comment. He took her hand and led her carefully into the lake.
The frigid water sent icy chills through their bodies. Kelly let out a sharp, short gasp as she entered the water.
“You okay?” Nick asked keeping a firm grasp around his wife.
Kelly nodded her head vigorously and looked at her husband with wide, anxious eyes.
After the two became adjusted to their cold surroundings, they began to fish. Nick cast his line out into the broad shining lake and waited for a bite, while Kelly was still struggling to bait her hook. Her hair was pulled loosely into a ponytail and while she struggled with the bait, several shorter strands of her straight sunny blonde hair fell forward across her forehead into her eyes. She brushed them away with the back of her wrist, but they fell right back. Nick left his fishing rod unattended for a brief moment. He bent down beside of Kelly and gently brushed her hair out of her eyes and baited her hook for her. Kelly smiled appreciatively at her husband, caste her line into the lake, and the couple patiently waited for a bite! Several hours later, Nick and Kelly prepared their fish dinner and concluded their second day in the mountains.
