"He`s gone..."
~ Two Days Later ~
Isabelle was laying in her bed, staring at the ceiling, in fact that’s what she had been doing for the past two days, thinking about Nick. Today was his funeral, she knew she had to go, but she just wasn’t ready to see him yet, she wasn’t ready to let go of him, but she had to go to say goodbye, she just had to.
She got up and got ready. She felt sick to her tummy, she hadn’t eaten anything since the accident.
She finally arrived at the church. When she entered it, she felt weak, knowing that the body of the man she once held in her arms was in there...dead!
The funeral ended and everyone went to the grave yard to bury Nick. They all said their goodbyes except for Isabelle and Nick’s family, they all wanted to do it later on their own.
They buried him and Isabelle felt like half of her body was being taken away as Nick was going down.
Everyone went home, crying.
Isabelle got home and didn’t know what to do, her heart was hurting more than she imagined possible, she was aching for the soft touch of Nick’s hand on her face. She went to her bed and laid down staring at the ceiling. She found herself remembering great memories that her and Nick had shared together.
~ Flashback: Nick And Isabelle At The Beach ~
"Nick, please don’t throw me in the water, I don’t wanna get wet" Isabelle whined.
"Come on, I’ll keep you safe" he said, looking deep into her eyes.
"Alright, just don’t throw me in..." she said, not being able to finish cuz he had already thrown her in, "Argh, I’m gonna get you back Nickolas!"
"Oh no, you used my full name, I’m jiggling in my boots" he said, grinning from ear to ear.
Isabelle started laughing at his comment, she loved it when he’d make her laugh. "I wanna get out now" Isabelle said, walking in the sand.
"Oh come on, we just go in here two minutes ago, are you scared that I’m gonna drown you or something?" Nick asked, walking up to her and wrapping his arms around her.
"Me? Scared? No way" she laughed. She got out of his embrace and started running in the sand.
"Oh is that how you want it to be now?" he asked, starting to run after her.
"Yup" she replied, smiling.
"You’ll regret this" he said, catching up to her.
She just kept running for the fun of it, but when she looked in back of her, Nick was about two feet away from her. "Aaahhh" she yelled in surprise, trying to run faster but it was too late. He caught her and pinned her down in the sand, straddling her hips.
"Didn’t your mama ever tell you to never run away from people like that?" he joked.
"No, not that I recall" she replied, playing innocent.
"Oh, you trying to get smart with me little lady?" he asked.
"Of course not" she said, sarcastically.
He leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips. He pulled away and looked into her eyes. He leaned over again, this time wrapping his arms tightly around her waist, and kissed her deeply and passionately.
"I think I should run away from you more often" she joked. He just laughed at that.
"So you wanna go swimming now?" he asked.
"Alright" she replied.
"Come on" he said, helping her up and walking to the water.
He went into the water and looked back, expecting to see Isabelle right behind him, but she wasn’t there, she was sitting at her chair reading a magazine. Nick laughed a little as he went to see her.
"So, do you plan on doing this to me all the time?" he asked, laughing.
"Doing what?" she asked, pretending not to know what he was talking about.
"Turning around and walking to your chair?" he said.
"Oh no, only today" she laughed.
"Oh ok" he said, "Please come in the water with me."
"Ok, I’ll go" she said, getting up and running to the water. Nick ran after her and splashed some water at her. "Oh so that’s why you wanted me to come in" she said.
"How did you figure that one out?" he asked, sarcastically.
"Oh well with my incredible great skills of course" she said.
"What?" he laughed.
"I don’t know, I’m totally lost, I don’t know what I’m saying anymore. I’m not making any sense, am I?" she asked, laughing.
"Not that I know" he smiled.
"So, what do you plan on doing tonight?" she asked, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Well, I was thinking that I could take you out to dinner and we could go to the movies afterwards, what do you think about that?" he asked, wrapping his arms around her waist.
"I think that’s a great idea" she replied.
"Great, so it's a date?" he asked.
"It’s a date" she said.
Isabelle laid there in bed, she had tears rolling down the sides of her face, and she was laughing a little from the memory of that day at the beach, she was gonna miss those days, she was gonna miss not being able to joke around with him, in fact, she already missed all of that.
~ Flashback: When They Went Out That Night ~
"Hello beautiful" Nick said, looking Isabelle up and down when she opened the door, ready for her date.
She blushed a little, but recovered almost immediately. "Hi" she replied, smiling.
"You look absolutely gorgeous" he told her, giving her a red rose.
She was wearing a baby blue tee and blue jeans. He was wearing a khaki t-shirt and black cargo pants.
"Thank you, you look gorgeous too" she replied, taking the rose and putting it in some water.
"Ready to go?" he asked, taking her hand.
"Yeah" she replied, "Where are we going?"
"Well I thought that we could go to get some pizza and then we could go watch a movie" he said.
"Sounds great, what movie do you wanna see?" she asked.
"Well, I don’t know what’s playing, so we can pick one when we get there, and if there’s nothing good playing we can come back to my place and watch a movie there, is that alright?" he asked.
"Yeah, of course" she replied.
They arrived at the Pizza Palace and ate some pizza, joking and laughing the whole time. Then they went to the cinema and saw that nothing interesting was playing so they went back to Nick’s place.
"Sorry that there’s nothing you wanted to see, it would’ve been nice to see a movie in there with you" he said, a smile forming on his lips.
"Don’t be sorry, I don’t mind. Anyway it’s better here cuz we’re alone and there’s nobody around us" she said, mischievously.
"Yeah, I guess you’re right" he replied, "What movie do you wanna watch?"
"Uh...'She’s All That'? I haven’t seen that one in awhile" she asked.
"Sure, whatever you wanna watch is fine with me" he smiled.
He popped the movie in the VCR and went to sit next to Isabelle on the couch, he put his arms around her and they cuddled through the whole movie. The movie ended and it was about 11 o'clock.
"Wow, I think I should be getting home" she said, noticing the time.
"Alright, come on" he said.
They went to his car and he drove her home. He walked her to her door and hugged her. "I had a great time tonight" he said.
"So did I, thanks" she said, "Why does this feel like a first date kinda thing?"
"I don’t know, but it does feel like it" he laughed.
"Oh well" she shrugged.
"I’ll call you tomorrow, ok?" he said.
"Sure" she replied.
He leaned down and kissed her, "Bye."
"Bye." She walked in her house, the happiest girl ever...
Isabelle started crying harder when she thought about how happy she once was with him, she was still happy about it, the happiness never left, to her it just felt like it was being hidden away from her, like God had forbidden her to be happy.
"Why can’t he just be here?" she screamed out to no one, "I love you so much Nick!"
She cried the whole night, trying to fall asleep, but not getting any success. With the way that she was going, she thought she wasn’t gonna get any sleep ever again.
She woke up at 7 o'clock in the morning, to her surprise she had managed to get at least two hours of sleep. Today she had to do something, she couldn’t just stay in her bed all day. She decided that she was gonna go to Nick’s grave to say goodbye.
She arrived at the grave yard and walked right to Nick’s tombstone. She was holding the rose that he had given her on that night, it had dried and she used it as a decoration in her room, but she wanted him to have it now, so he could remember her.
"Hi Nick" she whispered, kneeling in front of the tombstone, "I thought I’d come by and say hello, maybe goodbye, but not goodbye forever, we will be together again one day, I’m sure of it. I wanted to give you the rose that you gave me on the night we went out for pizza and then we went to your house for a movie, do you remember? Well the rose is dried and it’s just beautiful, like you, and I want you to have it." She paused, not knowing if she could go on, she was crying too hard, "Well I guess that I have to say this, I don’t want to but it’ll help knowing that I did it, I wanna say goodbye but I just don’t know how, oh Nick, if only you were here with me, I’d give anything to see your presence, or to just feel it. I love you so much, and I always will, that’s the part that hurts the most, not being able to be with the one I love. Well I guess this is goodbye, but don’t worry, I’ll visit you as often as I can, I promise. I love you...Goodbye" she said.
She kissed two of her fingers and touched the ground with it, and then placed the rose where she assumed was his heart.
She walked back to her car, not looking back in fear that she would just break down and cry, she was already crying, but not enough to break down. She drove home, knowing that she had done the right thing. It didn’t stop the pain in her heart, it just made it worse, but she knew that she was gonna heal in time, maybe not soon, or maybe not ever, but she did know that she was gonna live remembering him in her thoughts and in her heart.
As she slowly made her way to her car, she thought, ‘There’s nothing left for me to do then to have one last cry.'
That one last cry would be for the sadness, all the other cries she would have would be for the love that still lived in her heart.
She loved him and she always would til the day they’d meet again...
