Once Upon A Time-Chapter 12

By: Kristy

Kristy arrived at the lounge a little before 5, and quickly glanced around for her friends, not really expecting to see them... they were never on time. She decided to order a drink and wait for them at the bar. She descended the small stairway and crossed the room to the bar, oblivious of the admiring looks being sent her way from several tables of business men and college students. She set her small handbag on the mahogany bar and slid onto one of the plush barstools. "A glass of chardonnay, please," she asked the bartender.

As he stepped away to retrieve the bottle, Kristy moved slightly so she could see the entrance to the lounge and fiddled with one of her heels. "From the gentleman at the table in the corner," the bartender told her as he placed the wine in front of her. She turned back to the bartender, confusion and surprise evident on her face. The bartender smiled and nodded towards the rear of the lounge. Kristy glanced over her shoulder in the direction that he had gestured.

From his table in the back of the room, Kevin had a clear view of the bar. He'd seen Kristy walk in and was enjoying this opportunity to watch her without her knowledge. She looked absolutely incredible! She wore a sleeveless black cocktail dress with a scooped neckline, exposing her bare shoulders and neck, but not revealing too much. The slightly flared skirt hit a few inches above her knees and swished enticingly as she walked. The body of the dress fit in all the right places without being tight or clingy, accenting her trim waist and feminine curves. She wore her hair down, the cascade of loose curls brushed her shoulders and the long layers framed her lovely face.

Kevin watched as Kristy slid onto the barstool, again admiring those great legs of hers, tonight clad in sheer black hose. His eyes followed the line of her leg downwards, just as Kristy bent down to adjust the ankle strap of one of her black heels. He smiled in anticipation of their evening together as he saw the dance shoes she was wearing. He settled back in the booth as the bartender handed her the drink that he'd arranged to buy for her, waiting for her reaction to his surprise.

The lighting in the corner of the lounge was quite dim and Kristy could only make out the general features of the man at the table. She could tell from the way he filled the booth he was tall and well built. His posture was relaxed, yet confident; a man sure of himself. She gathered her handbag and, casually draping her long black and gold scarf about her shoulders, started over to thank her admirer. As she walked towards him, he raised himself from the table to meet her. Kristy saw the man stand and she smiled as he stepped into the dim light. He was wearing a beautifully tailored black suit, which fit perfectly across his broad shoulders and narrow hips. A crisp white shirt showed from underneath his jacket, a red and gold tie completed the classic look.

Kevin held out his arms and Kristy stepped into his embrace without a word. He pulled her close and she let her head rest on his broad shoulder as she slid her arms up around his back. The two continued to stand there holding each other for several minutes. When they broke apart, Kristy looked up into Kevin's face and smiled, "I was set up, wasn't I?"

"Yes, you were!" Kevin laughed and impulsively kissed her on her forehead. "Did you honestly think I'd let something else take priority over an evening with you?"

Kristy shrugged, "But you already had an evening planned with me... why the change in plans?"

Kevin took her hand and guided her to the booth. She slid into the stuffed seats and Kevin slid around the other side to sit next to her. "You mean, why did I want to spend a few hours alone with you?" Kevin asked her, still holding her manicured hands in his. "I thought we could get to know each other better without an audience. But if you'd rather be with your friends..."

Kristy squeezed his hands and smiled warmly, "I'd rather be with you. I'm just not used to someone going through so much trouble to spend a little time with me."

"What can I say? I'm a hopeless romantic! And you're worth the trouble," Kevin smiled as he brought her hands upwards and kissed the back of each. "So, what do you say we go get some dinner? I know a cute little place that I think you'll feel right at home..."
