Once Upon A Time-Chapter 22

By: Kristy

(Author's note: This chapter contains a mature, responsible discussion about sex between two consenting adults. I believe that this is consistent with the "What Would They Think?" campaign. It is not intended to be "preachy"... I feel it represents another choice for two people who love each other. Enjoy! - Kristy)

They had a wonderful afternoon with lots of swimming, eating, dancing, flirting and laughing. More of Kevin's friends and work associates stopped by to see his new house... and Kristy. Later that night, the party was winding down and most of the guests had left, leaving only the five guys and three girls. Howie and AJ wanted to go listen to a band at a blues club, and Heather and Jessica decided to go along to keep them company, while Brian and Nick decided to hang around. Although Kevin and Kristy were somewhat anxious to have some time alone, they enjoyed spending time with the two and got a kick out of their antics.

There was some disagreement amongst the group as they were trying to pick a movie to watch. Brian and Nick kept suggesting comedies, while Kevin and Kristy leaned towards romances and Disney movies from his video library. Brian understood Kristy's giggles with "Aladdin" and "The Little Mermaid," but wasn't sure why "Cinderella" or "Snow White" caused such big smiles on both Kristy and Kevin's faces.

"How 'bout... 'Titanic?' That's a good chick-flick," Brian suggested, sensing he was loosing the battle with comedies.

Kristy shrugged, "Mmm... it's OK, but too long. And I'm not in the mood to cry."

"What?!" Nick dramatically fell off the chair in which he was sitting. "You mean there's a girl who DOESN'T think that's the best movie ever made?" he asked in mock alarm.

Kristy smiled, "It's good, but it's not among my favorites."

"And what would those be?" Kevin asked, leaning back into the couch, his arms stretched out on the back of it.

"Mostly chick-flicks!" Kristy laughed, "'Circle of Friends,' 'When Harry Met Sally,' 'Sleepless in Seattle,'" Kevin smiled as he thought about his closet conversation with himself the day they met. Kristy continued, "'The Cutting Edge,' 'Say Anything,' mmm... 'The Sound of Music,' 'White Christmas,'" she glanced at Kevin's movies and grinned, "And 'The Princess Bride'?" she finished her list with the suggestion.

"As you wish," Kevin answered with a slight smile and love in his eyes. Kristy smiled brightly, appreciating the significance of his words. In the movie, the hero, Westley, said that to his love, Princess Buttercup, when he really meant "I love you." The romantic-comedy was a favorite with both Kristy's friends and family. Many of them could go into long exchanges of dialogue... some could practically quote the whole movie.

Brian grinned, "Good compromise... funny enough for us, and mushy enough for you two."

Nick laughed, "I love that movie! 'My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die,'" he quoted as he and Brian jumped around the room pretending to sword fight.

"Inconceivable!" Brian pronounced with a slight lisp.

"You keep using that word... I do not think it means what you think it means." Kristy quoted back to him, with a slight Spanish accent. The whole group laughed.

"I see we have another 'Princess Bride'-aficionado in our midst." Kevin chuckled as Kristy sat next to him on the couch and leaned against him.

They watched the movie, all contributing with their favorite lines. Like Kristy and her family, Kevin, Brian and Nick could quote most of the movie. "AJ's gonna be so pissed he missed this!" Nick laughed during the 'Fire-swamp' scene. "He can almost do that whole 'Battle of Wits' monologue!"

Kristy giggled, "My brother's working on that too! He can do the whole court-room scene between Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson in 'A Few Good Men' too."

"Oh man, he and AJ would get along great!" Kevin laughed.

After the movie ended , Brian and Nick said their good-byes and left Kristy and Kevin watching TV. Kevin handed Kristy the remote, "Whatever you want to watch."

Kristy grinned at Kevin, "Wow! Control of the remote? Now that's true love!" she kissed him on the cheek and flipped through the channels, stopping on the Disney Channel. Kevin held Kristy's hand and she snuggled against his side.

Kevin slowly awoke and glanced down at the blond head asleep on his shoulder. His left arm was draped protectively around Kristy's slender shoulders, and with his right hand, he still held hers in his lap. He watched her, looking so peaceful with a slight smile on her lips, even in her sleep. "My very own Sleeping Beauty," he thought. He kissed her forehead and she stirred a bit, snuggling closer to him. He kissed her forehead again, letting his lips linger against her warm skin.

Her eyes fluttered open, and she smiled warmly as she looked into Kevin's beautiful hazel-green eyes. He kissed her softly, barely brushing his lips over hers. She leaned into him, trying to get closer. He chuckled, and with his arm around her shoulders, pulled her to him, prolonging the kiss. Their mouths slanted over each other's, the kiss deepening as it continued. Kristy ran her hand through Kevin's hair and caressed his face as she kissed him with all the love and passion she felt. Kevin's hands ran up and down her back in a feather-light touch, sending chills down her spine as the kiss became more and more passionate.

Kevin shifted their position, lowering Kristy on the couch, his body covering hers, without ever breaking their kiss. As Kevin kissed her neck, Kristy closed her eyes and drew a deep breath, letting the wonderful feelings course through her. He brought his mouth back to hers, and the kiss deepened again.

Suddenly Kevin broke away, and reluctantly rolled to his side, taking Kristy with him. He kissed her forehead and looked deeply into her incredible eyes. "I think it's time for 'the talk'," Kevin said, trying to read the expression in Kristy's eyes. She nodded and he continued, "There's part of me that wants to carry you upstairs and make love to you right now." Kristy's breath caught in her throat and she was sure Kevin could feel her heart pounding. "And then there's the part of me that thinks we should wait. I mean, I haven't always in the past..." he blushed. "Although, there haven't been that many. And I've always been safe," he paused. "Do you believe in waiting?"

Kristy smiled slightly and took a calming breath. This was the part she dreaded, and she braced herself for the worst. Too many times in the past she'd been honest and would learn what the guy she'd been with was really like. She didn't mean for it to be a test, but she didn't want to waste her time with someone who wouldn't accept her and her beliefs. She loved Kevin, and hoped it would be different with him. She took another deep breath and looked at his chin, "I do." She paused and looked him in the eye, "And I have."

Kevin's eyes widened slightly, just before he pulled her to him for a long embrace. He held her tightly and Kristy rested her cheek against his shoulder. She knew she should look at him again and "face the music", but it felt so good to be held in his strong arms, and she savored the moment, hoping it wouldn't be their last. She felt Kevin take a deep breath and pull back slightly. She slowly looked up into his face, unsure of what would happen next. She was surprised when she saw tears in his thickly-lashed eyes. She brought her hand to his cheek, "Kev, what's wrong?"

Kevin could see the concern and fear in her eyes and it made the tears come even more. He kissed her sweetly as the tears started down his face, "I love you. I should've waited for you," he choked out.

His words hit Kristy with their full force, and she felt like someone was squeezing her heart. She pulled him close this time, and held him as tightly as she could. She leaned back a bit and looked him straight in the eye, her eyes filled with tears too. "That is the most incredible thing anyone's ever said to me. I love you so much!"

The two held each other and soon the tears ended.
