Still The One-Prologue

By: Lisa Marie

Nick stepped inside his apartment and shut the door, looking down at the mail in his hand. "Bill, bill, bill, occupant," he laughed as he tossed that one to the floor. He stopped suddenly seeing a familiar handwriting on a small envelope. He let the other mail fall out of his hands as he walked over to the sofa and sat down, immediately tearing into the envelope. Nick pulled out the contents and stared at the engraved invitation in his hands.

Brian Thomas Littrell and Lisa Marie Halliwell-Carter request the honor of your presence on the 16th day of June 2004.

He stared at the invitation for a few moments, not believing it then reached for the phone, knowing exactly who had sent the invitation.

Aaron rolled over on his bed, cursing the ringing phone beside his head. He reached over and picked it up. "Hello?" he said tiredly. He'd been up late the night before helping Lis with Michael, and all he wanted to do was sleep.

"Aaron, what the hell is this?" Nick yelled into the phone.

"A rude wake up call?" Aaron asked, rolling onto his back.

Nick took a deep breath. "AC you sent me their wedding invitation...why?"

"To make you see what you're going to lose if you don't do anything Nick! You've never even seen your son... You don't know how much that hurts Lis, she wants him to know you and he can't."

Nick pounded his fist into the pillow to fight his tears. "She thinks I think he's Brian's..."

"There's no way you can think that when you see him Nick, he's like your double."

Lis heard the sound of a phone ringing down the hall and knew it was coming from Aaron's room. Part of the way to get him to stay with her was his own phone line, which she gladly had put in for him. He was spending almost four months with her until BJ got settled in the beach house and then he'd move in there with her. Lis stretched and got out of bed, glancing at the clock. It was after eight in the morning, too early for anyone she knew to be calling. She slid her robe on and went into the nursery to check on her son.

"I'm not coming to the wedding AC. I gave her the divorce so she could be free... E understands that why don't you?"

Aaron groaned, the same argument he'd been having with his brother for nearly a year. "Fine, go ahead let Lis marry Rok hell she can give Michael a house full of siblings... you know maybe it was best you left because if this is how you really are they are a LOT better off without you in their lives."

Nick sat there in stunned silence. "See AC, I was right."

"Look, I'm tired Michael kept us up all night and I don't want to put up with you so bye Nick." and with that he clicked the phone off.

Nick stared at the phone in his hand, awed that his little brother had hung up on him. Fine then, he thought to himself, tossing the phone onto the couch and heading into his room to get changed. He had a big day ahead of him and he didn't need to be distracted.

Lis heard Aaron storm out of his bedroom so she headed out into the hallway, partially closing the nursery door behind her. "Something wrong?" she asked, concerned.

Aaron looked up at her, his eyes bright with anger. "It's just...my friend is making the wrong choice about something and I know he's going to regret it."

"Sometimes people have to make their own mistakes AC."

"I guess..." he mumbled, thinking Nick had all ready made enough mistakes as he glanced inside the nursery. "I'm going to grab a shower." he gave her a quick smile and headed into the bathroom, leaving her in the hallway.

She took a quick look in the nursery then headed downstairs to make herself some breakfast, she had a feeling this was going to be a long day.
