Quick Crisp Sugar Cookies

2 1/4 cp flour -- sifted
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 Teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 pound butter -- softened at room temperature
1 cp sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 Tablespoon milk
additional sugar for topping
**Sugar Icing
1 pound powdered sugar
1 cp vegetable shortening
1/2 cp milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, & salt & set aside. Cream
the butter and sugar until light & fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time,
then vanilla & milk. Fold flour mixture into creamed mixture. Wrap dough
in wax paper and chill for about 2 hours, or roll out at once if preferred.
preheat oven to 425F
Roll out dough on a lightly floured survace to 1/8" thickness. Cut with a
cookie cutter that has been dipped in flour. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake
for about 8 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool on wire racks. Brush
with Sugar Icing if desired.
SUGAR ICING Blend everything together to a spreadable consistency.
