McCartney's Chess Shack is a site filled with problems and games, along with a site to guide you through to the best chess sites out there, and to sites online in which you can find that hard-to-find book that they don't carry at your local bookstore.
PROBLEMS: There are many exciting chess puzzles for you to figure out. Mates in 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or more, find the best move, find the draw, and unusual chess puzzles (chess with a twist) are included. One advantage to the problems here compared to the ones you find in books is that none of them are composed problems. All of them come from real games, and hence are realistic positions that you might get sometime in a game that you play. Check for new problems added periodically.
GAMES: There are plenty of games here, sorted by opening, all of which are meant to help you improve your game. Note that many openings transpose. If a transposition occurs, the opening in which it transposed into is where the game would be found (for example, 1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Nf6 3.Nc3 would be under "Alekhine's Defense"). Each game in here is either a game of interest (well played by both), or a game that may explain a specific strategy or tactic (For example, when to sacrifice, or why passive development may cost you, etc.). The games are formatted in such a way that anybody who wants to print the page out should be able to do so without problem on any kind of printer.
