Chapter 2- The Backstreet Boys Babysitter?!
“Nick! What the heck are you doing here?”
Brian jumped up and hugged his confused friend.
“What am I’m doing here? What the heck are you doing here?”
“I don’t know? All I can remember is having Leighanne in my arms, next to the poolside and then the next second I find myself on this spaceship.”
“So, what’s your story Nick?” AJ asked.
“Well…all I can remember is that I was taking my boat for a ride and then I find myself waking up here.”
“Well, as long as we’re all together. Then that’s better then being by ourself, right?” Kevin said.
Everyone nodded.
“So, do you guys know what’s going on?” Nick asked.
“They didn’t they tell you?” AJ asked.
‘Jess was about to tell me…but if it wasn’t for Captain Zeno…’ Nick thought.
“All I know is that we’re stuck doing a mission.”
“I’ll explain it to him.” Brian said. “Nick, we’re gonna help the Arky’s on their battle against the Vandie, who are the other space fighters will be fighting against.”
“And so, the Arky’s are gonna train us, to get ready for the battle.” Howie added.
“So, Nick. Who do you have helping you to train?” Kevin asked.
“Umm…Jessica.”
“Really?!” AJ raised his voice. “Man, she’s nice isn’t she?”
“…Um…yeah. How did you meet her?”
“She was the first person we all met. She showed us around the spaceship and inform us on some stuff too.” Brian said.
“What?!? You guys came here together?”
The rest of the bsb looked at each other and answered. “Yeah.”
“Great… so, I had to come last.” Nick said, to himself quietly.
“Well, now that we’re all together. You guys wanna get something to eat?” Howie asked. “I’m starved.”
Everyone agreed and started to make their way towards the Food Bar area.
***Meanwhile***
“Hey, you stupid girl!” Someone shouted.
The Backstreet Boys was entering the Food Bar area.
“You know you’re never going to get it.”
“So what? Who cares anyway, you’re just scared!” The other girl shouted back.
“Me, scared of you? That’ll be the day.”
When Nick looked around the room, he spotted Jessica’s friend, Amya. She was trying to stop the fight with Jessica and another girl.
“Only because I’m different doesn’t mean that you or everyone else have to treat me like dirt.”
“Different?” Nick said to himself.
“Jessica, Kathal. Stop this now!” Amya shouted.
Kathal pushed Amya away and onto the floor. Jessica helped her back up.
“Let’s go.” Jessica said.
Amya nodded.
Kathal started to laugh. “What kind of a stupid name is Jessica, anyway. You’re the weirdest person here, and you’re an outcast too. Why don’t you just go back to where you came from?”
Everyone in the room went silent as they watch them argue more.
Jessica told Amya to go outside and wait for her, and so, she obeyed.
“Kathal, I’m SO not sorry for being the way I am, but I’m just as good as you, AND that includes everyone here.” She turned to face everyone. “And if you have a problem with that, then it’s your problem. Not mine.”
She started to walk towards the exit, where the Backstreet Boys were standing.
“Hey!” Kathal shouted.
Jessica turned around as Kathal walked up to her and slapped her across the face.
“You and your kind makes me sick.” Kathal gave an evil look at the Backstreet Boys.
Jessica placed her hand over the place where she slapped her. “You leave them out of this.” She hissed.
“Why should I?”
“Because I said so.”
“And let me guess, your gonna hang out with them. Oh wait, how could I forget.” She looked at Nick with a smirk on her face. “You’re stuck with that…blond one over there.” She started to laugh. “He looks stupid with that red thing he has on.”
“It’s called a jersey.” Nick said, angrily.
Jessica was burning up in rage now that she had to clinch her fist tight to stop her from hitting Kathal.
“Oh look, he can talk. I’m not surprised.”
“Shut the hell up Kathal!” Jessica shouted.
“See, she is one of them!” Kathal announced, to everyone.
“Man, you’re a bitch. You know that?”
“Why thank you.” She grinned.
Jessica turned away from Kathal and started to walk out of the door but she stopped and turned around. She especially knew what would make Kathal tick.
“Oh and Kathal.”
“Yes.” She answered, in a snobby tone.
“You know, I’m gonna beat you in the test.”
“Ha! Don’t make me laugh.”
“Then how come I’m always getting the higher mark than you?”
“I’m only letting you win so, you can feel proud of yourself. That’s all.”
“Whatever…” She said quietly. As she exited out the door.
Jessica knew that Kathal wasn’t a good Star Fighter for the Arky, although she was in the highest ranks for the Arky but Kathal was the Captain’s pet, and everybody knew it.
“Do you hear me! I’m just letting you win!” Kathal shouted. Then she turned around. “What are you all starting at!”
Everyone started eating again and whispering about what just happen.
“Move out of my way!” She shoved past the Backstreet Boys, as they were confused about what just happen.
***A hour later***
Back at the Special Room.
“Hey, what the heck happen at the Food Bar area?” AJ asked.
“I don’t know, but it was very confusing.” Howie said.
“Hey, what did that girl meant, when she said that Jessica was different?” Nick asked, as he tried to remember some of the conversation, from the food bar.
“I don’t know but I think we should stay out of her problems or anything else that’s about her, okay?” Kevin said.
Everyone agreed.
The door opened and Jessica walked in. “Hey…” She said, trying to smile.
“Hi Jess…are you okay?” Brian asked.
“Yeah, I’m okay. Umm, well…I only came here you say that I’m sorry about what happen in the Food Bar area.” She walked up to Nick. “Nick, I’m so sorry about what she said about what you’re wearing.”
“It’s okay. Anyway, you shouldn’t be the one saying sorry. It should be that girl.”
“Yeah, that’s true…and her name’s Kathal. Well, I better get going so, I’ll see you guys around, okay?”
“Sure.” Everyone answered.
“Oh, and there’s only...” She looked at her watch. “Two hour before we land, okay?”
“Okay.” Kevin answered.
“Hey Jess, why didn’t-”
Everyone gave Nick a sharp look, which said. “Don’t ask any questions!”
“Yes?” She asked.
Nick looked down. “Nothing.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah.” He answered, in a sheepish voice.
“Okay then, bye!”
They said their own farewells to her.
She made her way out the door.
Brian turned to the others.
“Guys have you noticed that Jessica doesn’t speak like…really, well mannered …or snobby like?”
“You know Brian, you’re correct. She actually speaks…like us, in a way.” Nick said.
“Guys…” Kevin said.
“Do you think that might have something to do with the argument today?” Brian asked.
“Guys…” He started to raise his voice.
“Frick, I think we have something going on.” Nick said.
“GUYS!” Kevin shouted.
“What?!?” Brian and Nick said, while facing him.
“Remember? We weren’t going to talk about anything that has to do with Jessica.”
“Kev, they do have a point.” AJ said.
Kevin gave him a sharp look, which said. ‘Whose side are you on?’
“Hey, I was only suggesting!” He backed off.
“You know what? If you guys are so desperate to find out things about her, then be my guest.” Kevin said, as he stood up.
“Kev…” Brian said.
“Well, what are you guys waiting for, let’s go.”
Everyone looked at each other.
“Come on, let’s go.”
Everyone got up and they were on their way towards Jessica’s room.
AJ opened the door and they entered.
“I don’t think we should be in here right now.” Howie said.
“Howie…” AJ said.
“What?”
The lights were turned on but it seemed like no one was in the room but them.
“Jess, are you in here?” Nick said.
She was nowhere to be sighted in her room.
“Maybe she’s not in here.” Kevin said.
Everyone nodded and turned around to leave but the door open.
“Jess!” Everyone said, but she was shocked even more.
“What the heck are you guys doing here?” She asked, while holding onto her top half of her left arm.
“They wanted to ask you some things.” Kevin said, in a flustered tone.
“Okay… Sit down and make your self comfy.” She pressed some buttons next to the door and walked over to the Backstreet Boys after grabbing a white box.
“Hey, what did you do with the buttons?” Brian asked.
“I just lock the door because I’m already in big trouble with the captain and if she spots you inside here. I’m gonna get busted even more.” Jessica answered.
“What happen to you?” Howie asked, as he noticed that her left sleeve was ripped off with blood all over her arm.
“What happen? Well, let me tell you what happen. Remember the argument that went on today?”
They all nodded as they watched her clean the blood with a wet towel and bandage the wounded area.
“Well, thanks a lot to the Kathal. I just gotten the beating of my life as you can see.”
“Are you alright?” Kevin asked.
“Yeah, I’ll survive…At less it wasn’t like last weeks then I’m happy.” She sighed. “But maybe Kathal is correct…I am different from everyone here,” she looked at the boys. “Like you guys.”
“What do you mean…like us?” AJ asked.
“I mean…I’m just-”
‘Jessica, report to the captain’s room, NOW!’ Some said, over the speaker.
She stood up. “Well, I better get out of here before I get busted even more so, I’ll talk to you guys later.”
“Bye.” They all said.
She unlocked the door and ran out.
“We were so close. ” AJ whined.
“I know…” Nick said.
“Hey.” Kevin stood up. “We better get goin’.”
Everyone agreed and walked out of the room.
“Hey, Backstreet Boys.” Kathal said, in a snobby tone.
The boys turned around to face her.
“We’re going to land in less that 30 minutes so, you better come with me.”
The boys didn’t argue, so they followed her to the captain’s room.
“Are you happy now?!?” Captain Zeno screamed. She could be heard down the corridor.
“I’m sorry!” Jessica said. “I’m so sorry.”
“You stupid girl!”
Kathal and the boys entered the room.
“Why can’t you be like Kathal, or even have the manners like her?”
‘Well, maybe it’s because I’m not like her.’ Jessica thought.
“Well? Answer me!”
“Captain Zeno. I’ll try harder next time.”
“Of course you’ll try harder, you stupid girl!” She glanced at the boys. “Well, now that they are here. Jessica, I want you to train them. You are the only person who’ll actually be with them, 24 hours a day, do you understand?”
“I understand. But why only me? Didn’t you have other people doing it too?”
“Jessica! How many times have I ever said to speak normal, NOW repeat that sentence again!”
She sighed. “I do understand Captain Zeno. But why am I only chosen to take care of the Backstreet Boys because I thought that you were going to assign some other people to take care of them as I am suppose to take care of Nick Carter.”
Captain Zeno grinned. “Much better Jessica. But as they…are humans, and you…well, know all about them, then it’ll be best if you take care of them.”
“And plus, no one else wanted to take care of them…” Kathal took a glance at the boys. “So, you’re stuck with them, as you’re the…well, Backstreet Boys Babysitter.” She started to laugh.
Jessica and the Backstreet Boys stared at her and then at each other thinking. “Like that’s suppose to be funny.”
“Jessica, once we land, the Backstreet Boys will be living with you and so, I will leave them in your hands, to train them. You have less than 2 months, until I’ll be coming to your house to see how they are doing, do you understand?”
Jessica bowed. “I understand Captain Zeno.”
“Good. Now be off!” She gave the boys an evil look. “And take them with you.”
“Yes, Captain Zeno.” Jessica stood up and walked up to the boys. “We better get going.”
The Backstreet Boys followed Jessica out the of captain’s room.
All they could hear was the echoes of Captain Zeno and Kathal laughing.
