Chapter 4-The BSB Protector

“What are we gonna do!” Nick screeched, as he didn’t know what to do.

The Backstreet Boys turned towards Nick, with a confused expression.

“What are you whining about now, Nick” Kevin asked.

Nick stepped towards him and took a deep breath. “…Well, I don’t know how to say this but…Jess-”

“Is doing a really great job flying that plane, don’t you think?” The Mayor interrupted him.

“Yeah, she is.” Howie answered.

“Then let’s continue to watch.”

The boys, but Nick, turned around to watch the planes again.

“Hey! Why didn’t you let me tell them?” Nick whispered to the Mayor.

“Nick. Jessica is trained to know what to do in these situations. So, don’t worry about it. She’ll be okay. Just continue to watch…like nothing has happen.”

“But-!”

“But nothing!” He raised his voice. “Just watch.”

Nick gave out a grunt, while folding his arms. He looked up and watched Jessica’s plane.

***At the same time***
“Come on. Try and pull harder!”

“AMYA! I AM!” Jessica shouted. “I’m…” She was pulling the stick back as hard as she could. “…trying!!”

“You better eject your seat!” Amya shouted, in a high pitch scream. “Jessica, you won’t live. The barrier around your plane isn’t turned on! Eject your seat now!”

Jessica pressed the red button that had the words ‘eject’ on it. “Amya…it’s not working.” She said in a calm tone.

“What?!? No way! I checked it this morning…and…AND you have less than 30 seconds to get out!”

Jessica pulled even harder on the stick. “Come on, come on!” She closed her eyes tight and wished that this was not happening.

“J-E-S-S-I-C-A!!” Amya shouted. “22 seconds!”

“This is not happening! Stupid stick! Stupid plane! Why isn’t it working!?” Jessica thought. But then she noticed something. “Kathal…She might have vandalise this plane.”

“5 SECONDS LEFT!!”

With all her might, she moved the stick to the left and the plane skinned the Mayor’s building, with a big gush of wind after the turn.

“Jessica! You made it!” Amya sighed with relief. “Are you okay?”

Amya could only hear Jessica breathing deeply. “…Jessica. Are you okay?”

There was a long silence for a whole minute.

“I’m flying home…” Was the only thing she said back.

The whole crowd cheered with joy and excitement as lots of smiles appeared on their faces, while Nick and the Mayor sighed with relief.

***30 minutes later***
After Jessica and Kathal landed the planes back at the airport, they both went their separate ways. Jessica was now waiting outside Captain Zeno’s office.

“Jessica, you can come in now.” The voice in the speaker said.

As Jessica entered the dark room with only one lamp on, she saw Captain Zeno sitting behind her desk with two other chairs in front of the desk.

“Sit down.” Captain Zeno said, as she pointed towards a chair in font of her left side.

Jessica did what she was told. But as she did, she noticed Kathal was sitting on the other chair, to her right.

“Dam it! Why is she here?” Jessica thought.

“I’ll like to say congratulation to both of you.” Captain Zeno said. “For today’s performance.”

Jessica and Kathal said their own thank you.

“And I know what happen and Jessica, I have spoken to Kathal about what happen up there…and she’ll never do anything like that again. Am I right Kathal?”

“…Yes, Captain Zeno.” She mumbled.

“Speak louder Kathal!”

Jessica couldn’t help having a small grin on her face because it was like once in a lifetime that you’ll see Kathal getting told off by Captain Zeno.

“Yes, Captain Zeno!” Kathal shouted.

“Good. Now be off with the both of you.”

“Yes, Captain Zeno!” They both said.

As they both walked out of the room. Kathal stopped Jessica from walking, as they were walking down the corridor.

“This is all your fault!” She hissed.

“What is?” Jessica was confused.

“Thanks to you! I just got in trouble with Captain Zeno.”

“Oh, who cares anyway! It’s not my fault if you like to play bumps and thumps with planes.”

Kathal was speechless as her was mouth wide open.

“Look, you nearly got me killed up there…and some person screwed around with some wires in my plane.”

“So?” Kathal said, in a snobby tone.

“So! I would dead by now.”

“But you're alive now, right?”

“…Yeah. What’s your point?”

“So, there’s no big deal.”

There was a long silence between the two girls, as Jessica’s anger started to boil inside of her.

“You…you were the one who wreaked my plane. Wasn’t it?”

Kathal gave a smirk. “I don’t have to answer to you.” She turned around and walked off.

“I hate that bitch.” Jessica muttered.

***At mid-night***
“I can’t believe it’s mid-night already.” Brian said.

The celebration ended at 10pm. Everyone was now still at the place of where the celebration took place, hanging around the city or back at home. The boys were just wondering around the city, looking around the place.

“Man, it’s getting pretty late…” Nick said, as he looked at his watch.

The boys all agreed.

“But where’s-” Howie started to say.

“Hey guys!”

The boys turned around to see who was calling.

“Hey!” Jessica ran up to the boys, while trying to catch her breath. “I’m…so…sorry…about not been there at the celebration…but…I just got caught up with so much stuff after the performance...” Jessica explained.

“It’s okay.” Kevin said.

“Great. Well…are you going to hang around here or go back home?”

The boys looked at each other and said. “Home.”

“Well, that was easy.” She smiled.

They all took a cab back to Jessica’s house.

***2 hours later***
“Hey Jessica.”

All the boys went to sleep as Jessica sat outside the backyard in her favourite spot, which was sitting on a branch of a tall, wide old tree, gazing down at the beach and the rest of the landscape around her.

Jessica looked down below to see who called her name. “Oh, hey Brian.” She grinned. “Why are you up this late? It’s about 2 something in the morning.”

“Me? Well, I can’t sleep…and what about you?”

“Well, I…I just have a lot of things on my mind…that’s all.”

He grinned. “Same.”

“Hey, you wanna come up?”

“Sure.” He climbed up the tree and sat next to her.

“So…when does the training start?” Brian asked.

“Umm…actually anytime when you want to.”

He nodded. “Okay.”

“We can start tomorrow morning if you want but I think it’ll be best to start next week because right now, we only have less than 2 months and you just came here. So, at least you can have sometime to get use to everything here.”

“Great…” He gave out a deep sigh.

“What’s wrong Brian?”

“Nothing…”

“Brian…look. I might not be a good friend of yours, like the other boys but you can always talk to me about things… if you want that is.”

He grinned. “Thanks. But it’s just that I’m thinking about Leighanne too much…I-”

“Miss her, right? And she’s your wife…correct?”

“Yep. I just can’t wait to see her again…What? How do you know she’s my wife?”

“Before you and the rest came here, I had to read some profiles of all of you…and that includes your past too. But I didn’t want to read the whole thing because I couldn’t be bothered as it was like 50 pages on each of you boys.”

“Yikes. I would have done the same thing too.” Brian made a funny expression. “Well, do you have any special person here…who you like?”

“Actually no. But at least you have someone.” Jessica looked down. “I got no one...not even a family.”

“Oh…don’t worry, someone special will come into your life soon.”

She looked up and grinned. “Yeah...”

“Oh yeah, about the mission.” He changed the subject. “What happens if one of us dies?”

“You’ll die.”

Brian was shocked by the simple answer.

Jessica held onto Brian’s hands. “Brian, when it’s actually time for the battle to begin. I’ll always watch out for you and the rest of the boys. As I’m your protector.”

“Whoa! You’re our protector? But…but…?”

“Yeah, I know. You thought I was just going to take you into my house to stay because Captain Zeno said so. But to tell you the truth, when I was suppose to take care of Nick. I was told that I was your protector and I have to take care of you and the others and even…risking my life to save yours.”

“Jessica…I don’t know what to say but thank you.”

“There’s no need to say thank you at all. It’s part of my job, while you’re here.”

They both sat outside talking about things until it was 4am, as they both went upstairs to go to sleep.

***3 weeks later***
Each and one of the Backstreet Boys has been training hard as they listen to Jessica teaching them new fighting movement and what to do when something happens to them.

They go to the gym to work out or sometimes, Jessica takes them to the Arky Headquarters to train them more advance things. Like how to use weapons, or training in a room with dangerous things, which could slice them in half.
