Chapter 9 -The Backstreet Power

Two days have past and both sides, the Arky and the Vandie has been training hard for the battle against good and evil.

Throughout the last two days Jessica has been working over the limit trying to get everything back and running. From checking if there’s enough stock of everything like weapons and first aid kits, to helping people in their training.

“Knock, knock!” Nick was standing in the doorway of Jessica’s office.

Jessica didn’t answer.

Nick walked over to Jessica and glanced at the paper work, scatted around her desk. “Hey Jess!”

“…What?” She sounded distant.

“You know, you should take a break from all of this. Get out and breathe in the fresh air.”

Jessica sighed. “Nick, I can’t…” She spun around on her chair to face him. “I have too many paper works to sort out and too many other things to do.”

Nick dragged a chair in front of her and sat on it. “Jess. You’re working too hard. You need to take a break.”

“I can’t…the Vandie could attack us any minute now.”

“Please.” He was making a puppy look face. “Come Jess. Just take a short 5 minute break.”

Jessica sighed. “Nick…”

“Jess…” Nick tried to copy her tied voice. Then he placed his hands on her hands. “Come on. Please.”

A grin came on her face.

“Is that a yes?” Nick started to get excited.

“Yeah. I guess.”

She gathered up the paper work and placed them in the draw, next to her desk.

“So…where do you wanna go?” Jessica smiled.

“Well, are you hungry?”

***At the same time***
“Hey guys…do you think it was a good idea to send Nick, to try and get Jess away from her work?” AJ asked.

The rest of the Backstreet Boys were in the training room.

“Well…he did have the longest string then all of us.” Howie said.

“I guess.”

“Come on guys. Give Nick a chance.” Brian said.

“You’re only saying that ‘cuz you two are best friends.”

“AJ, that’s not true!”

“Then what is?” AJ smiled.

“Well…Nick is good at cheering people up, right?”

“Yeah, when he does stupid things.” Kevin joked.

Everyone started to laugh.

“Come on you guys, just give him a chance.” Brian pleads.

“Well, we did wish him good luck.” Howie said.

Everyone started to laugh again.

“Hey, anybody hungry? It’s lunchtime now.” AJ looked at his watch.

The rest agreed, as their empty stomach started to growl.

“Great! Lets eat.” AJ slipped his black sunglasses on and smiled. “So, what do you feel like eating for lunch?”

***Half an hour later***
“Thanks for lunch, Nick.”

Jessica and Nick was walking inside the Arky’s HQ.

“You’re welcome.” He had a big smile on his face. “Hey Jess…”

“Yeah.”

“I was wondering…” He looked down at his shoes. ‘I can’t believe I’m gonna ask if she’s human.’ He thought.

“Nick, what is it?”

Before Nick could ask his question, someone was shouting Jessica’s name.

“Jess! Jess!”

“Mark, what’s wrong?” Jessica asked.

Mark was trying to catch his breath. “I…have…reports….”

“Whoa! Mark, just get ya breath back and then speak.”

Mark took some deep breath in and out. “Can I tell you this in private?” He looked at Nick.

“Umm…sure.” Jessica turned to Nick. “Hey, I’ll be back, okay?”

Nick nodded and watched as Jessica and Mark walked 10 steps away.

“What’s the report?”

“Well, I’ve gotten information that the Vandie’s are going to attack us in less than two days.”

“WHAT!” She yelled.

Everyone in the room looked at her.

“So…what do you wanna do about it?” Mark asked.

Jessica sighed as she turned her back to Mark.

“Jess…” Mark placed his hands around her shoulder. “You okay?”

“…Yeah.” She looked at Nick and then looked down at the ground. “I can’t let them go through with this…” She mumbled.

“What?” Mark didn’t hear what she mumbled.

She sighed. “Mark.” She turned to face him. “Thanks, for the information. Is that all you have to report to me?”

“For now.” He grinned.

“Great. I’ll see you tonight for the meeting, as well as Kathal, right?”

“Yep.”

“Great.” She grinned. “I’ll see you tonight. Bye.”

“Bye Jess.”

They walked separate ways.

“Nick, do you know where’s the others are?”

“They were in the training room, the last time I saw them.”

“Okay…I’ll just ring one of them.”

After Jess rang AJ’s mobile phone, she told him to meet her at home with the other boys.

“I need to know if you’re really sure about going into this battle.”

They were in her bedroom.

“Jess, We’ve been training for a long time and we’re not gonna chuck it away!” AJ said.

“Yeah! We’ve worked too hard to give it up now.” Nick agreed.

A grin appeared on her face. “Great. Then I need to show you guys something.”

She walked towards the wall and pushed a button under the lamp. The wall open as there was five suits hanging, with different weapons next to it.

“Whoa.” Nick’s mouth dropped open.

“This is amazing!” Brian said.

“What’s this for?” Kevin asked.

“It’s your new suits.”

“Jess, are you kidding?” AJ asked.

“No, I’m not kidding. I made these suits and I even got a friend to help me make the weapons too.”

“This is cool Jess. Thank you.” Howie said.

“You’re welcome.” She smiled. “So what are you waiting for? Try them on.”

The five boys tried the uniforms.

Nick was in green with a sword, AJ was in red with an electric whip, Brian was in blue with two daggers, Howie was in purple with rod and Kevin was in black with two guns.

“Each of you guys have your own powers.” Jessica said, as she started to check the suits. She started with Kevin. “Kevin, you have the powers to control fire.”

“What? Like burning things?” Nick asked.

“Nick, I think she means that I can create fire balls and light a wood to make fire…right?”

“You got it, Kev.” She smiled. “AJ, you can shape shift.”

“Cool!” AJ said. “Hey, that tickles!”

“Whoops, sorry AJ. But the thing is, you can only shape shift into animals, like humans, monster and so on. But…”

“But what?”

“But you’re voice will be the same. So that’s why I’ve been working on this little voice changer to change you’re voice” She looked under her bed for a small wooden box, when she found it, she placed it on her bed. “Here it is!”

“It looks like a small piece of paper.” Howie said.

“You’re correct Howie. AJ, you can place this on the side of your neck. This voice changer will on work when you change.”

“Sounds cool.” AJ said.

Jessica placed the voice changer back in the box and went on to checking Howie.

“Howie, you’re power is the water.”

“Water…do I have to be near water to use the power?” Howie asked.

“No.”

“Oh, okay. Sounds okay then.” Howie tried to grin.

“Look Howie, with your powers you can freeze people or even wipe the enemy with a big title wave.”

A smile slowly appeared on his face. “Okay.”

She moved on to Brian. “Brian, you can be invisible.”

“Sounds cool. I can sneak behind the enemy.”

“And then you can beat the crap out of them!” Nick added. “In surprise!”

“That’s true. But besides been able to be invisible you can freeze time for less than two minutes.”

“Wow. Sound good.” Brian smiled.

“Yep. But as long as you have your crystals with you, you won’t freeze.”

“So, then that means when I freeze time, everyone will freeze but me…right?”

“I guess so. But the six of us won’t freeze because as long as we have the crystals by our side, we won’t freeze like everyone else. Got it?”

Everyone nodded.

She started to check Nick. “Nick, you can…. Nick! Stay still.”

“Sorry, I can’t help it.” Nick started to fidget even more.

“Is the suit to tight?”

“No.”

“Is it to loses?”

“No….”

“Then what’s the matter?”

“There’s something crawling around my back!”

Jessica looked at Nick’s back. “Oh. I wondered where that went.” She grabbed the green furry thing crawling up and down his back. “Sorry about that Nick.”

“What…what is that?” Brian asked.

“It’s my pet.”

“What?!?” The boys were shocked.

“That thing…is your pet?” AJ said.

“Yeah…”

“When did you get it?” Kevin asked.

“Two days ago. I named it Leo.”

“What is it?” Nick asked.

“It’s a Poppy. I got it from Mark, as a present.” She held her hand out in front of the boys, as the green furry poppy looked at them and blinked. “Wanna pat it? It doesn’t bite.”

Each of the boys was making a groaning, ‘I don’t know’ or ‘I’m not quite sure about this’ sound.

“Come on.” Jess said. “It won’t bite you.”

Leo started to make a sad doggy sound, as it started to lower it self.

“Now you just hurt Leo’s feelings.” Jessica started to stroke Leo.

“Hey Jess…can I hold it?” Nick asked.

The other boys were stunned.

“Okay, but just be careful not to drop it.”

Nick held Leo in his hands and both, Leo and Nick started at each other while blinking. A smiled soon came on Nick’s face. “You guys you have to hold him! He’s so cool.”

The rest of the boys huddled around Nick to have their turn of holding Leo.

“Nick, do you wanna know what your power is?” Jess asked.

“Definitely!”

“You can control lighting.”

“Cool! So I can fry people.”

“You got it.” She walked towards the box again and took five crystals out. “These crystals holds your powers. No one but me knows about these crystals.”

Each of the boys held their matching colour crystals in their hands.

“Wow…this is amazing…I feel different…somehow…” Brian wondered.

“Yeah! Same with me, I feel stronger.” Nick agreed.

“Jessica, is this suppose to happen?” Howie asked.

“Yeah it is. Right now you’re feeling the energy of the crystal. Which you’ll be using during the battle.”

Each of the boys held the crystal tight, as they could feel the crystals’ powers running across their body.

“I’ll give you the crystals back later.” She took the crystals back and placed it back in the box.

“Jessica, how will we know what to say or do to make our powers work?” AJ asked

“Trust me.” She placed the box away. “You’ll know.”

The boys nodded or said okay.

Jessica looked at her watch. “Wow, look at the time. I have to go to a meeting, so I’ll see you guys late tonight, okay?”

“Okay.” Kevin said.

“Hey, what you feed Leo?” Brian asked, as Leo was sitting on his shoulder.

“Oh, he eats anything. But just don’t over feed him. I’ll see you guys later.” She walked out the door.

“So, what do you guys feel like eating?” Nick asked.

“Let’s decide later, once we get out of these suit.” Kevin said.
