Chapter 11 - On A Rainy Day

***30 minutes later***
Everyone was now back at the hotel but for Nick and Brian. AJ and Howie drove Erin and Amirah back home, while Kevin, Leighanne and Katie was in the other car.

“I can’t believe Kate was…was Nick’s girlfriend!” AJ shouted.

Aj was pacing around in circles, while Howie sat on AJ’s bed, trying to cool his friend down.

“AJ, the whole gang told you that they had something goin’ on.” Howie pointed out.

“Yeah, I know…” He sat next to Howie. “But I couldn’t help it…I had to kiss her.”

“I supposes it would have been okay, if you kissed her on the cheek but kissing her right on the lips! And the way you did it, now that’s a bad idea. Plus, didn’t you see Nick walking towards you?”

“No.”

“Well, that was smart.” He rolled his eyes.

“Thank D. I thought you were suppose to be a friend.”

“I’m sorry, AJ. I didn’t mean that in a bad way but-”

AJ interrupted him. “What am I gonna do?” AJ raised his voice.

Howie sighed and shook his head. “I don’t know…”

“Katie hates me…I bet Nick wants to bash me up…(sigh)…what I am I gonna do…?”

“AJ,” Howie’s voice was calmed and conforming. “Both of them will forgive you. Just…just give them some time to get over this…this incident.”

AJ nodded.

***Meanwhile***
“I hate him!” Katie shouted.

They were in Kevin’s room. Katie and Leighanne were sitting on the bed, while Kevin sat on a chair that was next to the bed.

“Kate, you’re just angry. You don’t really hate AJ…do you?” Leighanne asked.

“Oh, believe me. I do.” Her eyes were red from crying.

“Kate, you have said that you hated AJ for the last 30 minutes.” Kevin said, while taking a look at his watch.

“So what?”

“So what…Kate, saying that you hate him, won’t change what has happen tonight.”

Katie looked down and sighed. “I hate it when he’s correct...” She thought.

“Kate, why did you say that Nick will hate you forever? Surly, Nick will forgive you.” Leighanne tried to put on a happy face but Katie wouldn’t smile back.

“I suppose he will...” Katie said, in a dull voice. “When I die!” She thought.

“Kate, is that the truth?” Kevin voice went to calm to serious. “From your heart?”

Katie didn’t answer. All she did was stare at the carpet floor.

“Come on Kate, you can tell us what’s on your mind.” Leighanne’s voice was calm and peaceful. “Can you?”

“I mine as well tell them. They’re gonna know anyway.” Katie thought. She took a deep breath and looked at them. “Nick and I…” She took another deep breath. “Nick and I promised something…tonight and…and I broke it.”

Kevin and Leighanne looked at each other with a serious expression.

“What was the promise?” Leighanne asked.

Katie gave out a deep sighed. “We promise to never kiss anybody else but each other, on the lips with…a lot of passion involved.”

“Oh…” Kevin and Leighanne said together.

“So that means. It’s okay if the person kisses you…or Nick, on the cheeks or just a friendly kiss on the lips, right?” Kevin asked.

“Yeah...” Katie said.

BANG! A loud thunder noise rang through their ears.

“That didn’t sound so good.” Katie said.

“I hope Brian and Nick comes back soon.” Leighanne started to worry.

“It looks like it’s gonna rain tonight.” Kevin said.

They all looked out the window.

“I told Nick, it was gonna rain.” Katie said to herself.

***At the same time***

“It looks like it’s gonna rain.” Brian said.

“Yeah…Kate was correct.” Nick said to himself.

Nick and Brian were outside the hotel.

“Well, we better get inside so…”

“I think, I’ll stay out here for just a little longer, okay?” Nick looked up at the hotel.

“Sure. Take care, Nick.”

Brian headed inside the hotel.

***20 minutes later***

Everyone returned back to the rooms.

“…So, Nick, told you about their promise too.” Leighanne said.

Brian and Leighanne were snuggled up in a queen-sized bed.

“Yeah, although I can’t blame Nick for acting the way he did.”

“I suppose you’re correct. But it wasn’t actually her fault, either.”

“I know. I told Nick what really happen, with AJ kissing her and the expression Kate had too…(sigh)…but he didn’t want to listen. So Nick has a choose.”

“And that would be?”

“To trust what I said or to trust what he saw. Either way, he has to pick one of them.”

“Yeah and if he picks yours, he’ll be with Kate and if he picks the other one…all of their relationship will be gone.”

“I know…”

There was along silence in the room.

“Hey Brian, I didn’t see Nick with you, where is he?”

“Oh, he wanted to have some time by himself, for a while, so…”

Leighanne smiled. “I understand.”

After a while, they drifted off to sleep.

***At the same time***

Kevin was fast asleep on the bed, while Katie staring at the ceiling.

“Nick, I’m so sorry for what has happen…please, don’t hate me!” She thought.

BANG! Another thunderstorm echoed throughout the sky.

Katie got off the couch and walked next to the desk and wrote Kevin a note, which said:

Dear Kevin,
I’m going out for a walk and I took an umbrella, just in case it rains. Don’t worry about me, I’ll be okay!

Katie headed out the door, while she carried a big red umbrella.

Once at the corridor, she stoped and lifted up her right hand to knock on Nick’s door.

She sighed. “He’ll properly slam the door in front of my face…”

***20 minutes later***

Katie walked into a park and continued to walk towards the lake.

“…(Sigh)…I remember here.” She thought. “This is the place Nick took me. When I had the big fight with the others.” She smiled as she remembered what happen on that day. “He was so easy to talk too...”

She sat down on the cold grass, in front of the lake. Little raindrops started to pour, so she putted up the red umbrella. She watched as the little raindrops got bigger and bigger. She loved it when the rain made the pattens on the lake.

***At the same time***

“Man…Kate wasn’t kidding, when she said tonight is gonna be great.” Nick said in a sarcastic.

Nick was running in the rain as he was getting socked, from top to bottom. He was trying to shelter himself by covering his head with his jacket, while trying to find shelter.

“Great!”

He spotted someone with an umbrella and so he ran up to the person.

“Excuse me, but can I come under your umbrella, for some shelter?”

“Sure.” The person’s voice sounded familiar.

The person lifted up the umbrella so he could come under.

“Kate…?”

“Nick…?”

Both of them were stunned.

Katie thought that Nick was in his hotel room, while Nick thought she was back at home.

“What are you doin’ here!?!” They asked together.

“What am I doin’ here? I was here first!” They said at the same time, again.

“You know what, I can solve this…here.”

Katie got up and gave him the umbrella to him. Then she turned away from him and ran off into the rain.

He looked at the umbrella that was sheltering him. “Kate, your gonna catch a cold!” He shouted.

But she couldn’t hear him because she was too far away.

He took off his necklace with the lion hanging on it and held it in his palm.

“Who should I believe my eyes or Brian’s words?” He gave out a deep sigh.

He looked at the lake and got ready to throw the necklace.

“…(Sigh)…I can’t do it…”

He stared at the necklaces, as the raindrops dripped down his hair.

***At the same time***

‘Ring, ring!’

‘Ring-!”

“Hello…?”

“Hi Erin, I’m sorry to call you at…” Kevin looked at the clock on the lamp desk. “2:15am, but is there anyway, Kate with you?”

“No…why? Isn’t she at home?”

“No, not really. ‘Cuz I made her stay here, so she won’t be alone.”

“Okay. So what’s the matter?” Erin tried to stay calm.

“She left a note saying that she’s gone out for a walk…but right now it’s raining. So I’m really starting to worry.”

“Did she take anything with her?”

“Yeah, she took an umbrella.”

“Well then, at least she’ll be dry, right?”

“Yeah…”

“Kev, try not to worry about it. She’ll be okay. But if something bad does happens, call me, okay?”

“Okay…and Erin.”

“Yeah?”

“That was pretty quick, when you answered the phone.”

“Yeah, I was reading a book. But I should go to sleep soon so...”

“How could you parents let you stay up this late?”

“Oh. Lets just say…that they’re having a great time at a party.”

“Oh, okay. Well, I better let you go and I’ll see ya later. Bye.”

“Bye Kev!”

They hung up the phone.

***Meanwhile***

Katie was walking in the rain. She was out of the park and now she was heading back, to the hotel.

“Why does it have to rain now?” Katie thought.

She was soaked from head to feet because of the rain. She was freezing cold and most of all she was so tired. All she wanted to do, is go back to the hotel and just go to sleep.

“Kate!” A person shouted from behind.

She could hear the shoe pattering as the person ran closer. But she just ignored the person and continued walking.

“Kate…I think this belongs to you.” The voice was gentle, and the red umbrella was sheltering both of them.

“No actually, it belongs to Kevin.” Katie rudely said.

“Oh…okay. Well here.”

He took out the necklace from his pocket and gave it to her.

“Nick, that was just a gift for ya.” She stoped to face him.

“But it’s okay, you can have it back.”

“Nick, I have no use for it, anyway. Just keep it. You can throw away if you want. I don’t care, it’s your chose.” She gave it back to him.

Before she started to walk again he stoped her. “Kate, did you kiss AJ first or did he kiss you first?” Nick’s voice started to get serous.

“He did…”

“So Brian was correct.” Nick thought to himself.

Katie started to feel dizzy. “Are you happy now.” She started to walk off.

“Kate, what’s wrong?”

“Nothings wrong!” She snapped “Anyway, why do you care?”

“Because I love you!”

“Then prove it!”

There was a long silence.

“Nick, nobody’s perfect in this world and yes, I know I broke our promise…but I didn’t mean too. Nor did I know that AJ would kiss me.”

“That explains why AJ started to acted weird.” She thought.

Nick didn’t reply. All he did was just looked away.

“Fine then, have it your way.” She started to run off.

“Kate!” He ran after her.

The rain started to pour down harder.

When Nick caught up to her, he grabbed her arm. “Kate, I know that you love me and you know that I love you…”

“Wrong! I don’t know that you love.”

“What!?!”

“You heard me. I don’t know if you love me.”

“Will this do then.” He lends towards her lips.

“Nick…I…”

Katie fell onto his chest, as she felt like everything around her was spinning around.

“Kate!” Nick cried.
