Chapter 12 - Friends Or Enemy?

‘Ring, ring!’

“Brian…can you get that…”

Brian and Leighanne was nice and coze in the bed together.

‘Ring, ring!’

“Yeah…” He said in a sleepy voice.

Brian reached for the phone.

“Hello…?”

“Brian, it’s me Nick.” Nick’s voice was in a worried tone.

“Nick, what the matter?” Brian could tell that something was wrong.

“It’s Kate.”

“What about her?”

“Well, she’s in the hospital.”

“What!?!”

“It’s true. So can you wake the others up and come to Rose Mary’s Hospital as quick as you can, okay? I’ll explain later.”

“Yeah sure. I’ll see ya there…”

Nick hung up the phone first.

“Brian, what’s the matter?” Leighanne asked.

“Kate is…in the hospital.”

“What…? Isn’t she in the hotel?”

“That’s what I thought. Well, come on. We better get dress then we’ll wake the others up.”

When the got dressed, they woke the others up and in less the 15 minutes they were off to the hospital.

***Meanwhile***

“Kate…please be alright.”

Nick was sitting outside of the room that Kate was in. A doctor was checking up on her.

‘CLICK!’

Nick turned hi head towards the opening door.

“Excuse me, but your friend will be alright. She was just in the rain too long and she just needed to be somewhere warm.” The doctor said.

Nick got up and shook hands with him. “Thanks. When can she leave.”

“Now if you want but just let her rest for awhile, okay?”

“Okay.”

The doctor walked down the long hallway.

Nick took a deep breath and walked into the room. He saw Kate lying on the bed, peacefully.

He grabbed a chair and placed it next to the bed and sat down.

“Kate…” He said in a soft, quite voice.

Nick held her hand with a firm grip.

“I’m sorry for all of this.” He closed his eyes tight and tried not to let any of his eyes tears get out.

“No…I should be sorry…” Her voice was weak.

Nick opened his eyes and smiled at her. She was smiling back.

“Hey…I’m glad you’re alright.” Nick said.

The door swung open.

“Hey Nick.” Said a familiar voice.

Nick turned around to see who was at the door.

“Hey Brian…guys…Leighanne.” Nick said. He tried to smile but he was too tired.

They all walked inside the room. AJ closed the door and stayed there, as he tried to stay out of Nick’s sight.

“How’s Kate?” asked Leighanne.

“She’s okay. She can go now but the doctor said it’s best if she just rests for a while.”

Everyone nodded and walked out of the room, as a nurser told them to wait outside.

***Half an hour later***

Everyone was waiting outside the corridor. Brian and Leighanne were sitting down, taking about their marriage settings. Kevin and Howie went to McDonalds, AJ was standing and leaning against the wall, while Nick was sitting down with his hands through his hair.

“Why is this happening?” Nick thought. “…Just when I found a girl I like…grr…and AJ, the women attractor strikes again.”

Nick lends back on the cricking chair and closes his eyes, while thousands of questions went through his mind.

“Nick always gets the things I like before I get it! That…that is so…STUPID!” AJ thought, as he gave out a deep sigh. Then he looked down at the shiny tiled on floor. “…But Kate, always liked Nick more…(sigh)…I’ve made a big mess of things for sure. I guess I should apologise to Nick…after all, if I didn’t kiss her…she wouldn’t be in the hospital.”

AJ looked up to see how Nick was taking it, but Nick was still thinking about things. He started to walk towards Nick and sat down on the chair next to him, then he lends in front of him.

“Nick, I’m so sorry about this…this is all my fault. I know how you feel, but if I didn’t kiss Kate then she wouldn’t be in here and…” AJ stopped, as Nick sat back up on his chair and looked into his eyes with so much anger, pain and hate that he was feeling right now towards AJ.

Nick gave a smirk. “Ha! You don’t know how I feel at all.”

“What?!?” AJ was puzzled.

“I hope your happy, AJ. You have took something I love away from me…again.”

“What? What do you mean by ‘again’?”

“Well, let’s see. Remember the girl I meet at a bar named Lisa.”

“Yeah…” AJ started to remember, with a smile on his face. “What about her?”

“What about her? She only lasted a week with me before you took her away from me.”

“No way! She told me you were boring and you just wanted to play with your computer games.”

“…Well what about Mel and Lily?”

“Mel never liked you in the first place, she just went to you to get to me and Lily well, she was desperate to use us for money.”

“AJ…how did you know all of that?”

“They told me, when I asked them about why did they go out with ya. But anyway, Mel and Lily only last for a week too.”

Nick looked away. “So what…”

AJ sighed. “Looked Nick, buddy, pal. I’m just SO sorry about kissing Kate. It was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. ‘Cuz I know now that you two are meant to be together. Man, you know Nick, there was something going on between the both of you when you first meet.”

“Umm…thanks.” Nick smiled. “I guess.” He mumbled to himself.

“And don’t worry Nick, Kate is a great friend…sure, she’s cute and all but, I’ll find another girl, as Kate is the perfect gal for ya. So, you have nothing to worry about.”

“Thanks. I’ll tell that to Kate, when she’s feeling better.” Nick grinned.

“Hey, let’s eat!” Kevin announced.

Howie and Kevin walked towards the others to give them the food.

Howie saw AJ and Nick talking, while they walked towards him. “Hey, ain’t you two suppose be fighting or hating each other?” Howie had a cheeky smile on his face.

Nick and AJ looked at each other.

“Us…no way, we’re friends.” AJ smiled. “Right Nick?” He placed his arm over Nick’s shoulders.

“Right.”

“Well, I’m glad that you two are friends again.” Howie said.

Everyone started to talk when they all sat down to eat.

***2 hours later***

“Hey Kate…you’re a wake.”

Kate opened her eyes to see who was the person talking to her.

“Nick…” She said, in a weak voice. As she tried to grinned.

Nick was sitting on a chair next to the bed.

“How ya feeling?”

“Good. I think…?”

“Your parents isn’t back home yet so, we better get you back home. Okay?”

“Sure…but who’s we?”

“The other guys of course. Come on, I’ll help you up.”

Nick helped her up to her feet, as she felt a bit woozy still.

***10 minutes later***

After Kate got changed back into her cloths, she walked out of the room. “Hey guys!” Kate said.

Everyone was sitting or standing around the corridor.

“Kate!” They all shouted together.

After saying that they were glad that she was okay, they all got into two separate cars and drove off towards Kate’s house.

***Later that day***

“Are you sure you don’t want to get some rest?”

“For the tenth time Nick, no.” Kate said frustrated.

“Okay, okay…if you say so.” A cheeky smile appeared on his face.

Everyone was sitting around the lounge room.

“So when is you parents coming back again?” Brian asked.

“Umm…tonight.” She gave it another thought. “Yeah, they’re coming back tonight.”

“Well do you know what time then?” Howie asked.

“Sorry.” She shook her head. “But hey Brian, Leighanne, have you guys made your decision on your wedding plains yet?”

Brian and Leighanne looked at each other and replayed. “Yes.”

“Cool! So when are you having it?” Nick asked.

“September…next year at…umm…well, here.” Leighanne answered.

“That’s great news!” Kate got excited.

***Later that night***

Everyone was now back at the hotel.

“It’s great that your parents allowed you to stay here for the night.” Nick said.

“Anyway, tonight is the last time before the you and Backstreet Boys fly off to another country.”

Kate grinned. “Yeah…I know.”

They were lying in a double bed. Nick reached in the draws and took out something.

“Kate, I want you to have this.”

Nick gave her the little box.

“What is it?”

He smiled. “You’ll see.”

Kate opened the box and took the thing out.

“Nick…” She was speechless.

“Do you like it?”

“I love it. Thank you Nick.” She placed the ring on her finger.

“I got one as well.” He showed her, his ring.

“This friendship ring is so beautiful.”

“And now for your last present.” He lifted up a huge box onto the bed. “Open it.”

She did what she was told and when she did open it, she was stunned.

“What’s the name Nick?”

“I don’t know…you have to think of its name as it’s your pup.”

She took the puppy out of the box and looked into its eyes.

“I think I’ll name it…Nick Jr. After you.” She started laughing.

Nick smiled. “Well...thank you then.”

The both started to laugh.

***Meanwhile***

“It’s good that you and Nick sorted out things out between you and Kate.” Howie said.

AJ nodded. “I know.”

Kevin and Howie were in AJ’s room.

“But you have to a mite. It was pretty funny while it lasted.” Kevin joked.

“Yeah, that’s true.” AJ said. “But really, for as long as I have known Nick, he has never, EVER gotten that upset over a girl.”

“But they were pretty tight though...” Howie suggested as he laughed quietly. “Even when they first meet. They had something going.”

“Yeah…I know that now. But it was so unfair. Everyone knew but me that they had something goin’ on.”

“Life sucks, doesn’t it?” Howie joked.

“Hey aren’t you suppose to be the ‘sweet’ one here? And that’s maybe why we call you, Sweet D.”

They all started laughing.

“How about you. Your nickname, Bone.”

“So what…I like been called Bone.” He smiled.

“Okay, okay. Let’s stop this okay, Lets get more serous here.” Kevin butted in. AJ and Howie looked at each other.

“Oh…Trian is upset now.” AJ joked.

Kevin didn’t reply. He only had a straight face.

“Okay, I’m sorry Kev.”

“Good. So-”

“Guys, guys!” Brian shouted, as he burst into the room.

“What, what?!?” Howie started to panic.

“Nothing, I just wanted to say hi.” He started to giggle.

Kevin, AJ and Howie look at each other with an evil grinned and started to walk towards Brian.

“Umm…guys…what are you doing?”

“Hi guys.” Leighanne said, as she popped her head into the doorway.

“Hey Leighanne!” the three said.

Brian gave her a kiss and walked her towards the couch, as the others started to follow.

“Well, I guess we’re just missing Kate and Nick…right?” Leighanne asked.

They all sat down.

“So, shall we begin?” Kevin asked.

Everyone nodded.

All though the night, they talked about things. From the topic of making fun of AJ about kissing Kate to the concert for tomorrow night.
