Chapter 2 - Late On The Day

 ***The next day***
Erin and Melissa were waiting at the park entrances, waiting for Katie to come.

Erin was standing next to an old tall tree with her arms crossed and ready to explode, while Melissa sat on the green wooden bench, trying to keep cool about Katie being late.

Both of the girls were 15 years old. Erin was the tallest out of all of the three of the girls, and Melissa was the second tallest. Both girls had black hair, Melissa had brown eyes while Erin had light brown eyes and she wore silver glasses. Both girls had brown skin but Melissa’s skin was darker. Erin kept her hair in a ponytail while Melissa had short hair, which reached under her ears, while wearing a purple headband that pushed her hair away from her face.

Erin was wearing a dark red short sleeved shirt with blue jeans and brown hiker boots. While Melissa wore a flowered patten purple dress that reached up to her knees with light purple see-through sleeves and she wore black party shoes that was in a shape of a boot. Erin brought her bag with all her sleepover gear. Her bag was blue and she placed it under the old tall tree that she was standing next to.

“Where is she!?!” Erin shouted.

Melissa stood up and walked up to her. “Erin, she’s only 5 minutes late, she’ll be here.”

Erin looked at Melissa and said. “You better be correct about this, because where going to have the picnic with or without her, once it’s 12:15, okay?”

She rolled her eyes. “Yeah…okay. We’ll leave at 12:15. Happy, Miss Queen of Time?”

Erin placed her hands on her slim hips. “Ha, ha Melissa, very funny. Anyway, we all said that once it’s 12:15, we’ll go without the late person, remember?”

Melissa couldn’t help to giggle, when she saw Erin getting crosser even more. She placed her right hand on Erin’s shoulder. “Ha…sorry Erin, I didn’t mean it in a bad way. But you should cool down a bit, she’ll be here. I promises.” Then she thought to herself. “I can’t believe I just said that!?! Like come on, it’s Kate! She’s mostly on time. Expressly if we were going to this park…she wouldn’t miss this for the world!”

Erin took a deep breathe and then said. “I’m gonna sit down for while.”

Before Melissa could say anything, Erin grabbed her bag and she stated to walk towards the bench. So she decide to join her. They both sat down and looked around the park, to see if they could spot Katie anywhere.

Erin looked at her watch. “She got 8 minutes left. Where is she? She wouldn’t miss this for the world.”

Melissa smiled. “Well, of course she wouldn’t miss this. She loves this park…or the lake for this matter.”

They started to laugh.

“I guess so.” Erin said. Then she thought to herself. “She better come here soon…I’m just so hungry. I wish I didn’t miss breakfast this morning…”

***At the same time***
“I’m late!” Katie shouted.

She just got off her bus and look at her watch.

“Man! The others are going to kill me. And I only have…8 minutes left!”

She started to run down the footpath.

She wore her Dallas Starz jersey and blue jeans, plus she wore her Dallas Starz hat and Nike running shoes. She wore a green bag on her back with all of her sleepover gear, for tonight and she was carrying her drawing book in her right hand because she didn’t have time to put it in her bag and she had to stand up on the bus. She missed the first bus, which wouldn’t be full up as much as the bus she was on just then.

“I’m nearly there…but if only there wasn’t so many people walking here!’ She thought.

Katie continued to run through the crowd with a shout of a ‘Excuse me, please!’ and a ‘Sorry!’

***4 minutes later***
Erin was starting to pace around in circles.

Melissa was still sitting on the bench. “Erin do you mind! You’re making me sick, just to see you walking like that. Sit down already!”

Erin stoped and stared at her. “Do you know what time it is!?!” She snapped.

She sighed and answered. “Right now, I really don’t care.”

“Well, you should care. There’s only 4 minutes left!” She showed Melissa her watch.

“Erin, don’t worry. She’ll be here, okay?”

Erin sat next to Melissa and sighed. “Okay.” She mumbled.

“Erin, remember, Kate wouldn’t miss this at all. She loves it here.”

Erin grinned. “Yeah…I know she does. Let’s just…let’s just change the subject right now, okay?” Her stomach began to grumble.

“Sure.” She nodded her head. Then she remembered something. “Hey, have you seen Howie with the brands on his head…boy, does that look cute on him, or what!”

“Yeah...” Erin started to look around the park.

Melissa continued to brag on about Howie’s brad, while Erin sat back on the bench and stared at the clouds in the sky. “Why is she doing this to me? She knows I don’t like Howie… (Sign)…Howie fans, you can’t live without them and you can’t shut up! God, make her stop.” She thought.

“Hey, are you listening to me?” She asked. While she waved her hand in front of Erin’s face.

“Yeah, of course I am.” Erin lied, as she smiled at her. “I was just…looking at the clouds as well as listening to you, that’s all.”

“Well then, I’ll continue.”

This time, she started to brag on about what it would feel like if she met Howie and what she would do.

“Help me!” Erin thought.

Meanwhile***
Katie was still running down the footpath.

“Yes! I’m nearly there…(huff, puff)…just around the corner and across the road and I’m-!”

CRASH!

One second Katie was running and the next she was on the ground, with a big head ache.

When she looked up, to see whom she rammed into. The other person was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans with a white Nike hat and all she could see was the top of the person’s hat instead of the face.

Both of them were still sitting on the ground, rubbing their heads [AN: or should I say their hats!?!]

After a minute, Katie got up and dusted herself and she fixed her cloths and hat, then she looked at her watch. “Oh, no! There’s only 3 minutes left.” She said to herself.

She bends down to see if the person, she rammed into, was hurt. “Excuse me, but are you okay?”

“I’m okay.” The person said, with a crookie voice.

She grinned and sighed with relief. “Well, that’s good news. Here, let me help you up?”

The person looked up her.

She was socked, at what she was seeing. “Don’t I know him!?!” She thought.

She helped him up to his feet, slowly, but as she was doing that, they were looking into each other’s eyes, like they knew each other since they were little.

He smiled at her. “Thanks.”

She smiled back. “Anytime.”

Then she looked at her watch again and thought. “Great…I only have less then 2 minutes.”

She looked up at the person. “Hey, I’m sorry for ramming into you, but I have to go.”

“Nah, it was my fault.” He said, while holding onto her hands with a firm grip.

“Right now, I really don’t care whose fault it was. From my point of view, it was both of us. But I really gotta to go now.”

Before Katie could run off, the person held her hands with a tight grip but not too tight. “Sorry to stop you, but…what’s your name?”

She could see something sparkle in he’s eyes…but what? “My name’s…Katie…and I…I really have to go.”

He nodded and lets go of her hands. Then she ran off, into the distance.

***************************************

From where Katie ran off. Another man came running, with a basketball under his arms, running towards the person with the Nike hat.

“Hey, where late! The others just called me and said that they’re coming to pick us up now.” The person with the dirty blond hair said. He pulled the other person’s sleeved. “Come on!”

“Okay…fine. I’m going, I’m going!” Said the person with the Nike hat. He began to run towards a grey van that just pulled over, next to the footpath.

The other person looked down at the ground, to see what the black thing was. He picked it up and opened it.

He smiled. “Wow…these are drawings of me! And the others too. I wonder who drew this.”

Then he looked for the drawer’s name around the drawing. “By Katie…”

A black man from the van popped his head out and shouted out.

“Come on! We got a busy today and we don’t have time for you to spend it all up.”

He closed the drawing book and looked up, then he started to run towards the van.

***At the same time***
“Why did I say my name to him? I’m so stupid! And worst enough, he was a total stranger! But on the other hand, he did remind me of someone, with those eyes…but who…?” Katie thought to herself, as she continued to run toward the park.
