Chapter 5 - Kiss Or Dare it

Everyone was all seated and began to scream when Howie came on stage. “Howie…I love you!” Melissa yelled.

During his song, ‘My Heart Stays With You,’ he threw out the white roses towards the crowd and lucky enough, Melissa caught one.

“I’m gonna keep this forever.” She said.

After Howie’s song finished, Brian came on and sang ‘That’s What She Said,’ after that, AJ started to sing, ‘Lay Down.’

Erin and Melissa looked away at some saucy bits that AJ did. While Katie laughed her head off, to see her two friends look away from those bits.

Kevin was next but instead of singing, he played on his piano. Soon after the song finished, Nick came out with a red rose in left hand. He started to sing ‘I See Heaven In Your Eyes.’

He nearly finished singing the song and he could see the other bsb members, watching him at the other side of the stage because of the dare.

“’Coz I see heaven…” He stoped and gave a cheeky smile and said. “Can everyone take out their ticket, to see what number you have on it, please.”

Everyone took out the ticket.

“What’s this for?” Erin asked.

“I don’t know.” Katie answered.

Nick then asked for silences and everyone obeyed him.

“Thank you. Can the lucky person with number 31 on their ticket please come up, I repeat, the person with number 31, please come up on stage.”

Then he looked down and thought. “Great…I wonder who it’s gonna be…(sign)…”

“Oh my…that’s my ticket!” Katie said to her friends.

“What are you waiting for, get up.” Melissa said.

“Go Kate!” Erin said.

Katie made her way up to the stage.

Nick was shocked at what he saw in front of him. “I can’t believe it. It’s you…it’s really you.” Nick thought.

Then Nick looked at Brian and all he saw was his mouth drop open. He watched as she made her way through the crowd. Then he walked over to her, so he could help her up on stage.

“…Thanks.” Katie said, with a smile.

“Anytime.” A cheeky smile appeared on his face.

Katie looked at Nick in a confused expression. “What did you say?!?”

Nick just smiled and walked her over to the microphone stand, gave her the rose and asked to tell her name to the whole crowd. Then he began to sing. “All of endless time, we tried to make it…” He continued on and once he reached to the chorus he sang. “I need you tonight, I need you right now, I know deep within my heart, it doesn’t matter if it’s wrong or right, ‘coz I see heaven…” He looked into her eyes even more. “In…your…eyes.” He gave a big smile and then a ‘ooh’ came after it.

Katie and Nick smiled at each other and then both of them thought. “I can’t believe this is happening.”

Nick waved to the crowd and then the floor below them started to move down, slowly. “Thank you!” Nick said.

At first, it scared Katie a bit because she didn’t know what was happening, until she heard someone from above the stage say. “We’re gonna have a 10 minute break and then the Backstreet Boys will be back. Hotter then ever!”

All she could see was Nick and he was staring back at her.

Once the metal floor stoped, Nick leaded Katie out and said. “Just wait here.”

He walked off into the darkest corner of the small room and then came back out with a book, in his right hand. “Here, I think this is yours.” He gave the book to her.

She took the book and looked at him. “It was you...”

“Surprise, Surprise.” Nick said, with a huge smile.

“Oh sorry, I mean… thanks for finding my book.”

“It’s okay. Actually it was Brian who found it.”

“Okay. I guess I should thank him too.”

She looked at her drawing book.

Nick placed his right hand under her chin, to raise her head, so he could look into her eyes.

“You know, your a good drawer.” Nick said.

“Thanks. But right now, I wish you didn’t look inside my book.”

Nick looked puzzled. “Why?”

“Well, because…”

“Because what?”

She had forgotten what she was going to say to him. “Because I…I don’t know…”

Nick smiled. “But I do.”

“And that would be?” She raised her left eyebrow.

“You have such beautiful eyes.”

She smiled. “Thanks…but I can’t say much about your eyes.”

They stared into each other eyes for ages. Nick placed his hands on her shoulder and leaned towards her lips.

“Hey Nick!…Um, sorry. I think, I’ll come back later...”

They turned towards the person.

“Wait! Brian, what ‘cha want?” Nick asked.

“Well, I was just wondering where you were and you have less then 9 minutes to get changed. Everyone’s waiting for you.”

“Oh well…um…what should I do with Kate?”

Brian smiled. “I’ll take care of her, okay? Now hurry up and get changed.”

“Okay, Bye B, Kate!” Nick ran out the door and he headed for the dressing room.

Brian walked towards Katie.

“Sorry for wrecking your chance with Nick, just then.” Brian said.

Katie grinned. “It’s okay. Anyway, I’m kind of happy that you just came in like that or I might have done something that I’ll regret forever.”

“Well then,” Brian said, with a big smile on his face. “I’ll show you around the place, okay?” He turned around and started to walk out the room.

“Okay…and Brian.”

He stopped and turned to face her.

“Thanks for finding my book.”

He smiled. “Your welcome, Kate. Let’s get going.”

Brian leaded the way out of the room and he showed her what really goes on behind backstage. While he showed her around, he told her all about the dare that Nick and the others have to do. “…And that’s why you’re here.” Brian said.

“Um…great?!?” Katie replied and she smiled at him.

Brian smiled back and said. “Well, right over here is the…” He continued to show her around the place.

***6 minutes later***
Katie was still behind backstage. She had mostly met everyone, who worked with the Backstreet Boys.

She came into the dressing room with Nick, wearing a long red dress, while he was leaning on her right shoulder.

“Thanks for showing me the dance steps, Nick” Katie said.

“Your welcome.” Nick said, with a big smile on his face.

“So…that’s what you two being up to. Dancing!” AJ said, giving Nick a look that said. “Aren’t we getting lucky tonight.” Then he looked at Katie. He couldn’t help to run his eyes all over her body. “Hey, you’re wearing one of the dress from Show Me-”

Then a person wearing sunglasses rushed in the room. Everyone looked at him.

“Hey Tommy!” Brian said. Then he saw a panic look on his face. “What’s wrong?”

“One of the dancers are down.” Tommy said, while he tried to catch his breath.

“What do you mean down? And which one?” Howie asked.

“Well, Amy was practicing, one of the routines and for some reason, she fell and twisted her ankle and it’s very bad! She can’t even walk or even get up, by herself.”

“Oh no…who’s gonna take Amy’s spot, for the next song?” Kevin asked.

Everyone was giving each other a blank look.

“Great. Amy has a twisted ankle, Nick has no partner to dance with and we have no extra dancers.” Brian said.

“I think I’ll get changed, back into my old cloths.” Katie said, and she tried to sneak out of the dressing room.

Kevin saw Katie trying to sneak out. “Hey you!” He pointed at Katie, because he still didn’t know her that well yet. But neither did Howie or AJ. “Why don’t you cover for Amy?”

She turned around. “Me!” She pointed at herself.

“Yeah you!” Everyone said.

“No way! I’m a big disaster, when it comes up to dancing.”

Nick walks up to her. “Come on, Kate. Do it for me…please.” He looked down on her with his baby blue eyes and smiled.

She sighed. “I don’t know…I mean, I might screw up the dance routine…anyway what song is it?”

“It’s, Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely, and your wearing the dress for it, so that’s great. ” Kevin answered.

“But really, I’ll wreck the whole show, with me just tripping over.”

“Kate, you should know some of the dance routine, I just showed you some of it. You did it okay.” Nick said.

“Great!” She thought. “Now there’s no way of me getting out of this. Thanks a lot Nick…” Then she took a deep breath. “Fine then…” She looked down. “I’ll do it.”

Everyone went up to her and said ‘thank you’ or ‘we knew you would do it’ or even ‘we’re counting on you.’

***An hour and a half later***
It’s near the end of the show. The Backstreet Boys had performed, Show me the meaning of being lonely, Quit playing games (with my heart), The one, As long as you love me, Don’t wanna lose you now, All I have to give, Anywhere for you, Let’s have a party, The perfect fan and many more.

The boys was getting tired from their performances, Katie didn’t make a mistake but one thing, that’s when she was dancing to show me the meaning, and she tripped on her shoes because it was two sizes big for her, but Nick just caught her in time. But besides that, everything went okay through the concert. Plus they finally remember her name through the time. Amy had to take the plane back home, so she could rest for a while because her ankle was broken.

The boys was getting change and ready for the second last song, and it was ‘Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).’ The last song on the list was ‘It’s Gotta Be You.’

“Kate, after this show we’re gonna grab a bit to eat and then we’re heading back to the hotel, you wanna come?” Nick asked.

“I think I’ll past, Nick. ‘Cuz, I have two friends here and I don’t wanna-”

“Hey, bring them a long!” AJ said, a huge smile appeared on his face. “I’m sure the others won’t mine…having two more beautiful, girls here. Do you guys?” He turned and faced the others.

They looked at each other. Nick, AJ and Brian, looked at the two oldest, so they can make the decision.

“Howie, what do you think? Yes or no?” AJ said. He was getting more excited.

“Well…we do have to get up early tomorrow morning, so…I guess we can take them back home, around that time. Kev?” He turned to Kevin.

Before Kevin opened his month to say anything, AJ butted in first.

“Great idea, D!” He turned to Katie. “Kate, after It’s Gotta Be You. Meet us at our tour bus, with the rest of your lovely, friends. Okay?”

“Okay…” She nodded, she wasn’t sure if it was the correct thing to do but as she remembered, what Melissa’s mum said. ‘You can come back home till late.’

Then she whispered something in Nick’s ears. “Is AJ, always like this, when it comes up to talking about girls?”

“Yeah, that’s AJ, for ya.” Nick grinned.

***5 minutes later***
Katie walked down, towards her friend’s sitting place. She told them to follow her and to grab all of their things. The Backstreet Boys just started to sing, It’s Gotta Be You.

“Where are you taking us, Kate!” Erin demanded.

“You’ll see…you’ll see.” She said, in a cheeky tone and a huge grin was on her face.

They walked towards a door that was guarded by a big, darked skinned guy.

“Hey Kate, are these your friends?” He asked.

“Yep! Marcus, I want you to meet Erin and Melissa.” She pointed to each one of them when she said their names.

“Hi...” Erin said.

“Hello.” Melissa said.

They both reached out to shake hands with Marcus.

“Well, hopefully we’ll see each other again.” Katie said, with a smile.

Marcus nodded and they shook hands. He was one of the very first people she met, when Brian gave her the grand tour, backstage.

Melissa and Erin looked at each other and exchanged face that said. “How do they know each other?!?”

He opened the door and they walk in.

“Bye Marcus!” Katie said.
