Chapter 2 – Orlando, 1999

Now seven years later, Kevin made up one fifth of the most popular pop group in the world called The Backstreet Boys. Tereth went everywhere with him, he was introduced as a childhood friend. The Backstreet Boys were just coming off of a three-month North American tour. The whole group was ready for a month and a half break that would take them into the New Year, before they were to set out on another two-month tour. Kevin was in the entertainment room of the bus by himself. They were on their way back to Orlando, where each of the five boys resided.
"About what you said the other day Kevin. Do you really have to move to LA?" Nick asked.
"I told you that you were more than welcome to come out there with me." Kevin replied as he watched a football game.
"But you know I like it here in Florida." Nick retorted.
"You know my reasons for leaving Florida Nick. I just can't stay near all of those yelling, screaming fans,” he said.
“Kevin, are you sure you’re okay? You’ve been down in the dumps lately,” Nick said.
“Yes, I’ve just been away from home for too long,” he said. Depression was something that all psychic vampires struggled with. Kevin was able to hide his depression much better than most, but the other four guys, could tell that he was suffering all the same. Kevin would have to consider the other's feelings further before he made his final decision about moving to LA. He feared that if he distanced himself too much that it would harm the group. Nick left the room and went to take a nap.
"What did you say to him this time Kev?" Brian asked as he stood in the doorway of the entertainment room.
"I think he's just tired and looking forward to spending some time at home. This tour has taken a toll on all of us." Kevin replied, not looking away from the TV.
"I'm worried about something, Kevin. You seem awfully depressed lately." Brian said.
"I know. I'm a little worried about what will happen if I do move to the west coast. I'm sure a vacation will lift my spirits though." Kevin said.
"I hope so. So what is this I hear about you possibly moving to LA?" Brian asked.
Kevin made up his mind then and there. There wouldn't be a move to LA. If the others were worrying about him, then distancing himself would only increase their worry and make them wonder if it was something that they had done.
"I was thinking of moving out there, but not right now." Kevin replied.
"I guess I'm gonna be the only one moving away from the nest then eh. Leigh and I are looking forward to finding a house up in Georgia in the next few weeks." Brian said.
"Georgia eh? That's where Leigh's family is right?" Kevin asked.
"Yeah. And there's some really nice suburbs surrounding Atlanta. That's where we're going to start our search." Brian said.
"Good luck finding a place Bri." Kevin said.
"Thanks man. Well I'm gonna pack it in for the night." Brian said as he retired to his bunk.
Kevin decided to pack it in as well. He needed to feed again soon. He noticed his energy level was low the past few days. Kevin was able to feed off of the energy of the crowds, without taking too much from any one person, so there were no serious side effects, the people were tired the next day, of course, but they had been to a concert of the Backstreet Boys so exhaustion the day after was inevitable. It would be nice to get home. It was always easier to find neutral victims while they were at home, living a more normal life. So those victims suffered from the usual mild to moderate trauma that came with being fed off of.
