BYLAWS
ARTICLE 1 - NAME
The name of this
club shall be the “Lake Norman Shag Club”.
The club shall be incorporated under the laws of the State of
ARTICLE 2 - OBJECT
The objective of
this club shall be to promote and preserve beach music and the Shag.
ARTICLE 3 - MEMBERS
An unlimited number
of members may belong to this club.
Section 1
One member in good standing must sponsor new prospective members. New members will be introduced at a monthly
meeting and their names will be published in the LNSC newsletter.
New members are encouraged to attend monthly LNSC meetings and
participate in social gathering sponsored by the club.
Section 2
Requirements for membership in LNSC are: the desire to promote and
preserve beach music, to participate in LNSC social gatherings, and to “Shag”
and enjoy.
Section 3
The club shall follow the calendar year of January 1 – December
31. Membership dues are paid
annually. All new membership dues paid
on or between October 1 and December 31 shall carry over into the following
calendar year. All members whose dues
are not paid by February 1 will be dropped from the club.
ARTICLE 4 - OFFICERS
Officers shall be
elected at the December meeting and shall assume office January 1.
Section 1
The Officers of the club shall be:
A. President
B. Vice-President
C. Secretary
D. Treasurer
These officers shall constitute the Executive Council. They shall perform the duties prescribed by
these by-laws and the parliamentary authority adopted by the club. The parliamentary authority shall be Robert’s
Rule of Order.
Section 1A
Duties of the club officers:
A. President: (1) To open all meetings at the
prescribed time and place
(2) To
conduct all business before the club and control debate within the rules of
order
(3) To
authenticate, by his/her signature when necessary, all acts, orders, contracts,
and checks of the club
(4) To
stand for the club, declaring the club’s will, and in all things obeying the
club’s commands
(5) To
appoint the Nominating Committee whose duties are to select and suggest a group
of individuals to serve as club officers for the following year. This committee
shall be appointed prior to the October LNSC meeting.
(6) To serve ex officio on all committees,
except the Nominating Committee
(7) To
appoint a member to fill any unexpired offices.
B. Vice-President: (1) To assume the duties of the President in his/her absence
(2) To
act as club Parliamentarian
C. Secretary: (1) To keep minutes of the club meetings
(2) To
read the minutes of the previous meeting
(3) To
conduct all club correspondence as directed
(4) To
maintain a list of all club officers, committee members, and the general
membership.
(5) To
call a meeting to order in the absence of the President and Vice-President until
a chairman pro tem can be nominated.
This should take place immediately.
D. Treasurer: (1) To receive and bank all monies due to
the club
(2) To
keep bookkeeping records of all funds
(3) To
dispense all money as the club may direct
(4) To
give monthly financial reports
(5) To
complete financial statement at the annual meeting
(6) To
keep records of all dues paid by members.
ARTICLE 5 - METTINGS
The club shall meet
once a month at a time and place determined by the membership.
ARTICLE 6 - EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
Section 1
The Executive Council shall be made up of the club’s officers. The immediate past President will act in an
advisory capacity to the Executive Council with tie breaking voting capacity.
Section 2
The Executive Council will generally supervise the affairs of the club
between regular meetings subject to the rules of the club. None of its acts shall conflict with action
taken by the club.
ARTICLE 7 - STANDING COMMITTEES
The President shall
appoint special and standing committees as necessary.
ARTICLE 8 - QUORUM
A quorum shall be
considered to be present when 15 or more members are in attendance.
ARTICLE 9 - CLUB MONIES
Section 1
Definition: All monies, dues, initiation fees, donations, committee
funds, and equipage
Section 2
Disbursal: To be made by the club Treasurer for all proven debts
Section 3
The President may allocate funds up to $200 for just debts. This provision should prevent late payments,
and allow flexibility in accounting procedures.
ARTICLE 10 -
BYLAW CHANGES
A. A
quorum (15 members or more) is present.
B. The
amendment was submitted to the Executive Council in writing at the previous
regular meeting.
C. The
amendment has been included in the LNSC newsletter.
