CHAPTER ONE

"Will you marry me Lisa ?" Nick asked.

I just stood there. I was so shocked that he asked me that. I knew he loved me, but wow. Marriage was a big, not big, a huge step. I was only 18. I loved Nick with all my heart and I know I would want to spend the rest of my life with him so I managed to squeeze out a yes.

"Yes, Nick, I will marry you," I said.

Nick slipped on the ring and picked me up in the air and swung me around; he was so happy. Everything I could ever want was holding me tight in his arms. After awhile Nick put me down. That's when the tears started to come. Nick took his finger and gently wiped the tears away from my eyes. I just smiled at him. He had the biggest grin on his face that I had ever seen. I swear, you could see it all the way from California.

"Well, Mrs. soon to be Carter, how about we finish our walk down the beach?"

"I'd love to."

Nick took my hand and placed it in his as we walked close together. We were the only ones out and that just made it even better. A few more tears slipped away from my eyes during the night. I didn't go back to my dorm, I spent the night with Nick. He just held me close. I felt so safe in his arms and never wanted to leave. I woke up early the next morning and noticed that Nick was still asleep. I decided to change that by giving him a kiss in the lips. I got up to only be knocked back down into his arms.

"Where do you think your going?" Nick questioned me.

"I guess nowhere now. But, I'd rather stay here and be with you."

"I think that's a good idea."

"Do you really?"

"Oh yeah."

"I think that this is an even better idea," I said as I leaned in to give him a kiss. I don't think he minded that because he returned it and made it even sweeter. We just laid there in silence for awhile after. I think that we were just too excited.

"Nick?"

"Hm."

"I don't think we should go to class today. I'd rather stay here and be in your arms."

"I agree, but I think we should call our parents and give them the wonderful news."

"Can't that wait? I just wanna lay here."

"I think we can make that work."

I smiled. It's a good thing that Nick doesn't have a roommate. We would be disturbed and I don't think that he would want us in here all cuddled up like we are. I'm not sure how my folks are going to take the news. I mean, they don't like my being with Nick. The disapprove of it and think that he's only going to break my heart. Nick's family will be happy for him and me. Brian and Heather will be shocked but will probably be more excited than Nick and I are.

"I think Heather will be my maid of honor......and your sisters can be my bridesmaids. What do you think?" I said.

"I think that's a great idea. I know my sisters will be happy. And so will Heather."

"What about you Nick?"

"What about me?"

" Who's going to be your best man? Brian?"

"Yeah."

"I just can't wait for this wedding. I wanna get married now!!!"

"Nope, you have to wait." Nick paused then added, "When should we have it?"

"How about May 3rd?"

"That's our anniversary so that's a good idea, but isn't that a little far away. I mean it's only September."

"Yeah I know. I would get married to you tomorrow if I could!"

"I love you Lisa."

"I love you too Nick." We gave each other a hug and a kiss.

"I think that we should call home and tell our families about this," Nick told me.

"All right. Let's call your house first."

We called Nick's family and they were so thrilled and happy for us. I asked Angel, Leslie, and B.J. to be my bridesmaids. They said yes right away. Nick and I talked to his parents for a little while before hanging up. They invited us over this weekend to celebrate. Now it was time to call my house.

"Nick, I'm a little scared."

"Don't be. They should be happy for you."

"I know, but they still don't approve of you and me dating. Now were getting married. That's a big step from dating Nick."

"Well, we won't know until we call."

"I guess."

I picked up the phone and dialed my home number. It rang a few times and no one was answering. I was just about to hang up when a "hello" came through the phone.

"Hi mom," I said.

"Oh, hi sweetie. How's school?"

"School's just fine, but that's not why I called. I have something very important to tell you."

" All right. What is it?"

I was getting all shaky and nervous so Nick wrapped his arms around my waist to comfort me.

"Mom, ummm...well see......"

"Honey, what is it?"

I couldn't take it anymore. I just had to tell her.

"Mom, Nick and I are getting married."

There I did it. That wasn't so hard. There was an awkward silence at the end of the phone until I heard my mom scream "WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE YOU THINKING?!!!!"

I had no choice but to let my anger out at her. "I knew you would say that!! Why can't you understand this mom? Nick and I are in love and we are getting married!!!! There is nothing you can do to stop us." I yelled through the phone.

After I said that I slammed down the phone and turned to Nick who was right behind me. He wrapped me in his arms tight as I began to cry.

"Angel....it's ok," he said as he put his hand through my hair. "Everything will be just fine."

"Nick, I love you so much. Why can't she understand that?" I spoke through my crying.

"I don't know Lisa, I don't know. "

I could tell that Nick was a little upset that my mom didn't like him. He was going to be a part of our family and she needs to accept that. I know she didn't like the idea of how we met. I know it wasn't safe, but Nick is just so wonderful. I'm so lucky that I am going to be his wife. So very lucky. Nick was my first love, my first kiss, my first boyfriend. Nick was my first everything. I'm glad I get to spend my life with a guy as special as him.

"Lisa?" Nick asked.

"Hm? " I said looking up at him.

Nick bent down and gave me such a sweet kiss. I was in cloud nine.

"Thanks Nick. I needed that," I said as we broke apart.

"So did I."

"I love you Nick."

"I love you Angel."

We just stood there in each other's arms for what seemed like forever. Just the way it should be.
