Skylar:
"Get moving, Kota, the quicker we finish painting this room, the quicker we can start on the last three bedrooms." Noticing that she was glaring at me, I tried to break the moment by throwing some M & Ms at her. "Here, Dakota, have some chocolate!" I said cheerfully.
"Three more rooms! Are you crazy?! We've already painted five bedrooms, not to mention the kitchen, dining room, living room, and the extra rooms! Learn to like white walls because I am not painting anymore!"
Giving Dakota a puppy dog look I said, "Come on, my clients will be moving in with us in two weeks. I really want to make a good impression."
"So who are these "clients" of yours?" she asked, emphasizing the word clients.
Without stopping my painting I said, "Well, five guys are coming. They're the ones in that group called the Backstreet Boys. You know, those people that get paid for making influential young girls squeal." I waited for a response and when none came, I looked up. Dakota's face was bright red (which meant she was either embarrassed or excited) and she muffled a squeal.
"Is this some kind of sick joke?" she muttered.
"Why on earth would I joke about something like that?" I asked. Suddenly realizing what she was asking I screamed in disbelief," You've got to be kidding me! My 18 year old best friend is in the 'teeny bopper' routine." Dakota tried to come back but was talking in incomplete and non understandable sentences. She finally managed to form the words
"Have you seen these guys? They're hot!"
"They're hot? What are you, in 7th grade or something? They're just people." I replied unaffected. Dakota began pacing and kept screaming.
"The Backstreet Boys are going to be staying in our house, living in our house, breathing our air! This is incredible! The Backstreet Boys are staying in our house!" After a while, Dakota finally calmed down. "So what do you know about this whole thing?" she asked
"Enough, I guess. They're going to stay with us for the next six months, and if everything goes well, then I might go on tour with them. In the last two days I've talked to both their manager and their choreographer. They've been warning me to watch these guys like a hawk because they're experts at sneaking junk food.
I'm really excited. I already started planning their diet and exercise program. This is it!"
Dakota looked at me and said sarcastically, "Poor souls, they have to live with your tasteless food for the next six months." Understanding her implications, I quickly warned.
"No way, Kota! I'm supposed to slim these guys down, so you'd better not help then sneak food."
"Like I would ever sabotage you like that." said Dakota innocently.
"I will kill you without a moment's hesitation." Dakota just smiled and raised her hand to her head,
"Yes, drill sergeant, sir!" ~~~~
Dakota:
No matter how many times she told me. Nothing prepared me for actually seeing them. They are going to be living here...in my house! Oh my god, I'm hyperventilating.
"Guys this is Dakota. Dakota, this is Nick, AJ, Brian, Howie, and Kevin," Skylar said perfectly calm.
"H..Hi. Welcome to my house," I smiled, nervously. Sky quickly elbowed me in my ribs and I then corrected my mistake. "Err.....our house. Well actually my dad's house."
"Well you're father must be rich. I mean to have you living here by yourself with a friend. This place is huge!" Nick stated in awe. Wow! Nick Carter liked MY house. This is too cool.
"Thanks."
"Okay, how about we decide on bedrooms now. So you don't have to leave your stuff in the hall," Sky laughed. "We'll show you the rooms Kota and I picked, then you can decide among the remaining rooms." I quickly smacked her and the guys just gave me a weird look.
"I don't like the name Kota. It's either Dakota or Ki."
"Ki?" Kevin asked confused.
"Yeah for my middle name Kiley. I've always loved my middle name so some people actually call me that. The only dork I know who calls me Kota is Sky here," I smirked.
"Okay, Kota," AJ laughed.
"Funny!"
"Kota, which room is yours?" Nick smiled.
"WHY IS EVERYONE CALLING ME THAT?"
"Calling you what, Kota?" Howie asked, innocently.
"UGH!" I screamed and then stomped up the stairs. I can tell already that its going to be non stop laughs with them living here. It's going to be a blast! I sat in my room for a little bit, just listening to music, when I heard a knock on the door. "Come in!" Nick stuck his head in the door and smiled.
"Hi neighbor!"
"Neighbor?"
"Yeah, my room is right next to yours," he informed me and then walked into my room. "So this is your room?"
"Yup, nothing special, but I like it." The room had a high ceiling with a perfect picture window that faced the ocean. My walls were bright blue and I had white carpet. Yup....Skylar got to my room too. That girl really has something against white paint.
"So..."
"So...." Talk about an uncomfortable silence. He was walking around my room and just glancing at my stuff. This is too weird. Nick Carter is in my room! I don't think I'll ever get used to the fact that I've met the Backstreet Boys, let alone the fact that they're going to be living here.
"I think we're going to have a lot of fun living here. I mean the house is huge and its right next to the beach, which is a definite plus. Any place near the beach is great!"
"The beach is really pretty and I totally love it. I'm so glad I'm living here now instead of Ohio. Living in Ohio all my life didn't really give me the chance to see any beaches that often..."
"How long have you been in Florida?" Nick said, sitting down next to me on the bed. Is it getting hot in here?
"About two and half weeks. I just graduated high school last month. Moving was hard, but its definitely worth it." He smiled at me and grabbed my hand.
"Want to go for a walk on your new beach?"
"Sure it sounds good," I grinned and we walked out of my room still holding hands. AJ was in the hall when we left my room and he just looked at Nick amazed.
"Geez Nick! Move a little fast? We've only been here an hour!" Nick shot AJ a dirty look and I just laughed.
"Sorry AJ! I guess I just got the moves," he replied slyly.
"Boy does he ever! It was wonderful!" I grinned at AJ and he looked at me shocked.
"I was just joking. I didn't know you guys actually DID do something!" Nick and I walked away laughing and AJ finally caught onto the joke.
"Is he normally that gullible?" I asked Nick.
"Only on his good days...."
"I heard that!" AJ yelled from upstairs. ~~~~
We walked along the beach with the wave splashing against our bare feet. I looked down at my hand and smiled, seeing Nick still holding it.
"So why are you here in Florida?" he asked, sitting down on the sand and pulling me next to him.
"Well I'm here because I had to get away from Ohio and because I want to be a model. It's probably a stupid dream but I have nothing else. I just really want to do something with my life. I'm tired of being known as a rich little girl."
"I'm sure you'll accomplish your dream. Your gorgeous!" Nick smiled and I blushed. The sand felt so cold compared to the hot temperatures of the air. After the redness on my face went away, I looked at him with a smile.
"So do you like what you do? Having girls all over the world throw themselves at you and adoring you... It's a guys dream!"
"Well when you put it that way," he laughed. "Honestly though, I really love it. The fame gets a little too much sometimes, but if it wasn't for the fame I wouldn't get to meet great people like you. Or live in this house. Or do what I love. Performing is my first love. I just love making people happy." His face lit up when he was talking about this and I knew from that, that he was telling the truth. We talked for about another hour and then we decided it was time to get back to the house. When we walked in, everyone was getting ready to sit down for dinner. Skylar was busy cooking. No doubt a no calorie, no fat....and no TASTE meal. Nick went over to talk to the guys in the TV room and I went to go bug Sky.
"What cardboard are we going to be eating today?" I laughed and she shot me a look.
"My cooking doesn't taste like cardboard! Just because it isn't a cheeseburger doesn't mean it doesn't taste good," she defended.
"You can have your opinions i'll have mine. I'll take a cheeseburger any day over low cal shit." I went over to the pantry where its normally stocked with my type of food and I was shocked to find it empty. No good food what so ever.
"Uh Sky, where the hell is my food?"
"In the garbage, you're going to eat like everyone else here."
"I'm in hell!" I yelled at the top of my lungs and she had the nerve to laugh at me. I walked into the room where all the guys were sitting and sat down on one of the huge leather couches.
"What is she making in there?" Brian asked and I just made a face.
"Who knows but all I know is that it won't taste any good!" Everyone laughed in agreement and AJ just moaned.
"Man what I wouldn't do for some Mc Donalds right now!"
"You had to mention that," Nick whined.
"Guys, we're just going to have to live with it," I replied and then there was a collective groan.
"What do you mean, we?" Howie asked.
"Sky, threw away all my junk food too. So I'm on the same healthy crap diet you guys are on.....UNTIL I go to the grocery store." Their faces all lit up and I just gave them an evil grin. "What are you going to give me?"
"ANYTHING! We're desperate! PLEASSE," AJ stated, jumping next to me on the couch.
"Okay, okay. Make me a list and I'll get it for you. We'll have to hide the good food and remember YOU OWE ME!" Nick looked over at me and smiled. His blue eyes practically jumped out at me and I realized that the fact that they were here was
