Sugar Gliders

What is a sugar glider you ask? A sugar glider is a tiny membrane marsupial native to Australia, New Guinea, Indonesia and Tasmania. On average, sugar gliders range from 3-5 oz in weight and 10-12 inches in length (including their tail). Sugar gliders are very social animals and have very specific nutritional needs. Having a glider as a family member is a commitment as they can live up to 12 years in captivity. Sugar gliders can make great pets but they are not for everyone. Yes, they can make noise at night while you are trying to sleep. Yes, they can bite. Yes, their nails can scratch. Yes, they need companionship. It is recommended that for a pair of gliders that the cage size be NO SMALLER than 3 ft tall by 2 ft wide by 2 ft deep. BIGGER IS BETTER! I highly recommend researching for at least 6 months prior to getting a glider to make sure they are the right pet for you and your family.

Here are some links to aid in starting your research of sugar gliders. There are many many sites out there but beware there is a lot of false information out there also.
