"Not for fame or reward,
Not for place or for rank,
Not lured by ambition
Or goaded by necessity.
But in simple
Obedience to duty,
As they understood it.
These men suffered all,
Sacrificed all,
Dared all...and died."

The 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team made two combat jumps during the Korean War. The jump at Munsan-ni (background picture) was on 23 March 1951, Good Friday, it started "Operation Tomahawk." The Paratroopers killed at Uijongbu, listed above, perished during this mission. March 25th was Easter Sunday that year. One of those killed on that day was my brother, Corporal John T. Griffin.

Honor Roll courtesy of Robert A. Nesbitt, President
187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team Association
President Nesbitt was a member of George Company and was seriously wounded on March 25, 1951. His wounds ended his military career and he was medically discharged from the Army. He stated, "It was a terrible day (Easter Sunday) for George Company. Our casualty list was huge and many good men died doing their job."
Bob, I salute you and all the brave Rakkasans. God bless you, all of you, for serving the colors so courageously and proudly! Respectfully Yours, Grif.

A SOLDIER'S WILL
A poem by Peter S. Griffin
"Unto you I bequeath..."
Death has found me on the battlefields of freedom,
Grieve not, for liberty's light shines as a beacon....
I leave to you, the things I held most dear,
Sacred, precious gifts of the highest tier....
Unto you, I bequeath, Old Glory, Lady Liberty,
The home of the brave, the land of the free....
The Bill of Rights, our Constitution,
Our halls of justice, our educational institutions....
I give to you, one nation, under God,
The many freedoms, on which, He's blessed our sod....
The right to worship, vote, love, work and play,
Not the least, of which, the things you have to say....
But most of all, I leave to you, my legacy,
For without sacrifice, there is no victory....
A SOLDIER'S WILL, preserves freedoms continuity,
A SOLDIER'S WILL, fulfills our " Rendezvous With Destiny"....
Sleep in peace brother Rakkasan
