Passing on the Legacy of Combat Experiences
The last valiant actions of young G.I.'s before their deaths remain alive in the minds, hearts and souls of eyewitness survivors - America's combat veterans.
A profound chronicle of war-related experiences can be discovered in the poetic work titled, "Thoughts, Memories and Tears - An Anthology of War, Death and Remembrance," by Peter S. Griffin.
Griffin, a veteran of the Vietnam War, opens his heart and soul to the reader; yet his deeply personal accounts are representative of a generation of unsung warriors. He vividly translates the horrors of war, describes the ravages of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (P.T.S.D.), shares the value and support of his family, wrestles with the society that disowned its own servicemen, and honors America's soldiers from different generations.
His unique poetic style rises and falls with a rhythm all its own, first lifting you boldly through war's hellish gate, then lowering you gently to contemplate a delicate expression - all with amazing clarity and passion.
The legacy created by the consequences of war and combat, preserved in our nation's veterans, is like a precious jewel - having borne the weight of the world to obtain its invaluable form.
It is the hope of the publisher that Griffin's work can be used as a helpful key for opening doors of communication among soldiers and civilians, as well as between veteran parents and their grown children.
DANCING WITH THE GRIM REAPER!
By Peter S. Griffin
From Thoughts, Memories and Tears
The sounds of war come crashing down,
Fast as lightning, death wears a frown....
Soldiers caught, in the Reaper's embrace,
Life's breath leaves, without a trace....
Bombs explode, cymbals clash,
Machineguns roar, the Reaper laughs....
The Devil's busy, collecting souls,
War is hell, innocence pays the tolls....
The gates of hell are open wide,
The melody plays on, as soldiers die....
Dodging bullets, they stoop and sway,
The Reaper dances, he leads the way....
They dig the earth, in which to hide,
The Reaper's sickle, swings in stride....
Theres no escaping death, you see,
The Reaper's dance, for you and me....
The crescendo heightens, as chaos reigns,
Cadence is kept, to the cries of pain....
The smell of death, vivid realization,
The wages of war, death and tribulation....
To death's music, there is no harmony,
Its notes, conceived of brutal agony....
Grenades explode, life gets, still cheaper,
Death so close, DANCING WITH THE GRIM REAPER!
The hounds of hell are set free,
Snipers in trees, fill the balcony....
No one escapes his dance, its personal, toe to toe,
Napalm explodes, illuminating, the darkest shadows....
The skies open, as God sheds his tears,
The Reaper keeps dancing, he has no fears....
Death's now playing its saddest song,
To its inventory, youth, now belongs....
The sounds of death, keep a steady beat,
Even bravery and valor suffer defeat....
The rhythm of hell plays on forever,
You'll find peace, on "The Twelfth of Never"....
As the dance, slowly, comes to an end,
Life leaves the body, as death settles in....
Rigor-mortis has its profound, ugly, effect,
In survivor's minds, it replays and reflects....
Decapitation, dismemberment, death so grotesque,
Crumpled bodies, loyalty's disfigurement....
Post Combat Stress Disorder, the Devil's sleeper,
You'll get little rest, DANCING WITH THE GRIM REAPER!
“Such things every man who goes to war carries in his mind, and always will. You may have been lucky. You may have come back in one piece… but you didn’t escape unscathed.” – Journalist Gerald Johnson, 1952
Many times it is easier to be killed in battle because death comes instantly and war's agonies are over for them. For some, death is immediate, so fast they never knew what hit them. "Only the dead have seen the end of war!" For survivors the horribly violent deaths and agonies of what they saw and experienced will haunt them for the rest of their days... Every minute of every day, 24/7!
Well-seasoned bloody combat veterans come home to a world in which they no longer belong. No matter how hard they try, they are forever changed by the ugly face of war, reflected in their blank, peering eyes and lighting fast, razor sharp temperaments. For them, all of it, the whole horror and shock of the hell of highly contested, bloody and prolonged combat have altered their personalities to never again be considered or treated normally by those who label them with unjust stigmas and even by the mental health professionals who try to help them! For the PCSD wounded warriors there is no re-adjustment, no effective treatments, no magical cures and no peace of mind, all constantly stripped from them by a misunderstanding, distrustful, suspicious, fearful, antagonizing and sometimes uncaring, preoccupied society too busy with their frivolous, greedy, self-satisfying, narcissistic vanities and countless trivial and foolish pursuits, too oblivious to the veterans plight, a citizenry preoccupied only with themselves and ungodly quests every day.
This is not the world of the warrior! After days, weeks, months and years of life and death situations that were always so vitally important, dangerous, life threatening and frequent they perpetuated a life of alertness, readiness and constant vigilance that will control and direct the combat warriors thoughts and actions for the rest of his life, for every single moment! It is ingrained and indelible in their minds that those battle deaths, those so severely wounded the tortured bodies and minds of all who have given so much of self for others, not be in vain. They seek no acclaim, just understanding, caring and acceptance from this nation and the people they love with their once whole heart, which is now broken because of the following described despair! WE MUST SAVE THEM FROM DESPONDENCY, TWENTY TWO (22) SUICIDES A DAY WE MUST MAKE GO AWAY!
Society's seemingly ridiculous, constantly meaningless pursuit of happiness via wealth, deviate anything goes sex, liberal politics and idiotic fashion styles, hairdos, personal "inks", tolerance of perversions to the point of recklessness, the unholiest twisted news reporting, broken homes, single parents, gay rights, abortion on demand, the disintegration of the traditional family, the unhealthiest and most self-indulging, excessive pleasures and comforts demanded by this society daily and the acceptance and companionship of others of the same persuasions often disgust, confuse and anger the combat veteran who experienced the sacrifices, agonies, deprivations, courage and countless sacrifices of altruistic heroes in war are now in direct contrast to today's immoral and depraved, godless society and corrupt politics, politicians and policies that, to the warrior and combat veteran, insult and demean their ideals of service to something bigger than self, to the betterment of all, DUTY - HONOR - COUNTRY!
America's values and purity of thought and actions have degraded, perhaps, to the point of no return. America seems to be in its final stages of collapse by enemies foreign and domestic and the death of all we once, not so long ago, held in good order, mutual respect, common decency and courtesy for all; replaced by depravity... demanded by a vocal, provocative and violent groups of malcontents and/or minorities constantly crying discrimination, racism and their demands for a free ride through life at the cost of the energetic, ambitious and hardworking people who built this nation from the ground up. Now these true Americans watch in awe, disbelief and disgust as the liberals, socialists, communists, Marxists, Leninists, illegal aliens, foreign "refugee" invaders and Islamic extremists spread their malignancies like locust across this once great nation!
We, American patriots, with the help of God will do all possible to restore common sense and stop this insanity before it is too late. Some of those who now shun us will one day come to their senses and return to God, pick up a weapon and join us in our fight for God-given, God-approved and God-blessed freedoms and rights for the betterment of this country and the world! God help us in our quest for the realization of Your ideals through devout, determined and dedicated efforts to obey Your Commandments which will, if sincerely followed bring peace to Your world.
© AMERICA STAND WITH GOD OR GO TO HELL!
A fact the American people must know - the reason why our war against terrorism is ineffective is largely in part by our foolish ideology of Political Correctness, "PC!" We concentrate on equal rights for all and let our (sic) American infidels, i.e. evil sinners aide the enemy by demanding their profanities and perversions are actual rights and freedoms that we, the faithfully devout religious population, unconstitutionally and maliciously (LOL) deny and defy them. This Satanic infidel ideology of PC is a full crock of stinking feces and our Islamic enemies cunningly and most effectively utilize them to distract us from their devilish, well devised, brutal and merciless terroristic attacks against us!
Take a few minutes, (and that is all it will take for those of us who truly desire to see, comprehend and believe) to research and study the infrastructure and nomenclature of Islam, an openly and obvious warped religiously based form of government. It is why we demand separation of church and state! They have formulated and put into effect a radical religious government called a caliphate that demands all of Islam to terrify, conquer, enslave and/or annihilate us (infidels – non believers) through malicious, merciless and barbaric terrorist attacks that stun our senses and sensibilities that proficiently and effectively divide us politically, morally and philosophically! IT IS WORKING PRECISELY AS PLANNED FOR THEM!
As bad as all this is… just what in the hell does it have to do with solving the enigma of PCSD and preventing suicide? PLENTY! Our enemies methods are militaristically horrifying and deviously effective which keeps our PCSD wounded warriors and combat veterans unstable, forced into a constant state of uneasiness, worry and readiness to protect their personal safety, the safety of our people and the safety of our form of government because of our nation's leadership's failed, perpetually constant ineffective, extremely expensive and eventual unsustainable inexplicably imagined policies which inadequately protect our nation and our hopes for a way of life pleasing to all that is good, holy and just for all, which is our ultimate, most desirable goal! Political Correctness ideologies distract these wounded warriors from properly and effectively medically addressing their deadly enemy inflicted psychological wounds of PCSD which all too often lead to suicide! The actual war(s) they fought are burden enough to endanger them without these complications and exacerbations!
The enemy’s plan is effectively ingenious and proficiently turns our attention away from them and the evil tactics they are planning and doing to achieve our ultimate downfall by all means available to them no matter how cruel and barbaric! –Peter S. Griffin 4-8-16
THE ISLAMIC TERRORISTS DIRECTIVE TO KILL US PATIENTLY, SIMPLY AND DECISIVELY HAS PROVEN TO BE CUNNINGLY HEINOUS, DEADLY ON A MASSIVE SCALE, UNBEARABLY COSTLY AND EFFECTIVE; ALL TO OUR CONFOUNDING STATE OF CONFUSION AND INDECISION THAT THEY RELY ON! AMERICA, REALIZE IT OR DIE!

AND THE PRESIDENT'S ANSWER(?)
©BEING A VICTIM OF WAR DOES NOT A WARRIOR MAKE!
PCSD is caused by excessive BRAVERY & fighting!
PTSD is caused by excessive FEAR & helplessness!
What label do our warriors deserve to wear?
Saturday, July 10, 2010 - From President Obama's radio announcement about PTSD criteria: "... fearing a traumatic event even if it doesn't occur." This is PTSD, really? I guess paratroopers get PTSD from fearing their chutes won't open... sailors fearing their ship might sink... infantrymen fearing their weapons may malfunction, reservists might get called to active duty, worse yet... deployed to a war zone! This might be PTSD by those standards. BUT it sure as hell is not a warrior's standard! It sure is not “PCSD!” Please understand I have no objections with the government taking care of the rear echelon people... who might get bombed! But I ask you... if this is PTSD... is America still "The home of the brave?" By lowering the threshold for PTSD claims by acknowledging and accepting fear as a legitimate basis… and worse yet, the inability to perform because of said fear… I feel this ill thought out decision is undermining the military itself, and it’s primary mission, which is “to seek out and destroy the enemy!” How can the military perform its sacred task of providing national security by rewarding members who are so afraid of imagined trauma that they cannot do their job? Lets face it, these people are not warriors, do not live by a warrior code and should not be treated as such! It is an insult to lump our brave warriors in such a demeaning category! PTSD is NOT Post Combat Stress Disorder!
Thank God our warriors set the threshold for PCSD at the highest level, bravery! Yes, bravery! The ignore fear and perform with courage and honor when confronted by numerically superior enemy forces, even when they are outgunned on unfamiliar enemy turf, turf that has hidden fortifications prepared to inflict the highest number of casualties possible on our warriors! And they face these odds over and over again, with determination and the will to win! And do so! How can we treat these brave GIs with disrespect by defining and equating their honorable, extraordinary, psychological enemy inflicted wounds as run of the mill, “if this happens I might get hurt” fears! They spit in the eye of fear and confront death on a regular basis! Without flinching on the battlefield! Such is the caliber of our warriors in the combat arms!
Am I under the mistaken belief that "To care for him who shall have borne the battle..." was the VA's mission? Is it still? If this is still the true standard of caring for our wounded warriors why won't our government grant dignity to the American fighting man by adopting the PCSD Concept and Purple Heart Medal Proposal outlined on the following pages? It encompasses all whom fight and those they protect whose work sometimes put them in harms way in a combat theater... with understanding and dignity! And it is based on the warrior standard of bravery and gallantry, not on “fearing a traumatic event even if it doesn't occur” defeatist mentality!
Unfortunately, it seems the mere thought and words "fighting man" are offensive here, in this "PC" "land of the free" where speaking of a specific gender is considered crude and insensitive. Our warriors are fighting men and should always be treated and considered “politically correct!” Our fundamental, precious rights only exist because of the courage of our warriors! So I say BEWARE ye of little faith, have courage, emulate our warriors... for our enemies are watching! They would love to demean us before dancing on our graves! Lets not help them accomplish their goals!
Bring justice to our fighting men... adopt the PCSD Concept! Keep them where they belong, "ABOVE THE REST!" May God have mercy on US All if we fail to honor those who keep us free! Grif
THE DEGREE OF SEVERITY
Grif believes there are only five criteria, which influence the occurrence and severity of PCSD in the individual combat veteran. The degree of individual involvement in these categories, directly affect the severity of the condition.
1) DEDICATION – the degree of risk, commitment and effort put forth by the individual in combat.
2) EXPOSURE – the degree and frequency of individual intense combat experienced.
3) LOSS – the extent of sufferings incurred, inflicted or witnessed by the individual in combat.
4) GUILT – individual beliefs that what one did or failed to do, negatively affected the lives of others.
5) BETRAYAL – actual or perceived by the individual – committed by comrades, superiors, citizens or government that negatively affected the outcome of the conflict. Betrayal instills the overpowering, often irreversible belief, that all was in vain! PCSD is a serious wound inflicted in combat that is without doubt, exacerbated by the lack of, or loss of support on the home front.
The cumulative, detrimental effects of any combination of these criteria will ultimately lead to the “undoing” of the sufferer. PCSD will, without doubt, destroy the individual’s quality of life, value of life or life, itself! If you have PCSD symptoms do not deny them! Do not compound your problems by using illegal drugs or alcohol. They will not offer any relief and will add to your sufferings.
There is little hope for a meaningful life for those who remain undiagnosed and/or untreated! Therefore, I urge all who suffer from the symptoms of PCSD to seek professional medical assistance as soon as possible. Visit your nearest Veteran’s Administrative Medical Center for evaluation today!

IN SUMMATION
~ CONCERNS ~
I pray our medical and psychiatric professionals do not trivialize or dismiss the PCSD Concept and PHM Proposal, thinking PTSD is PTSD, that the disorder and treatment is the same, regardless of the cause! That would be (and has been) a grave error! Basically, in the general psychiatric, therapeutic realm that may be correct, and crystal clear in the mind of the professional caregiver. However, these distinctions are meant to directly benefit the psyche of the warrior (military mind) and the PCSD suffering combat veteran by fostering honor, pride, and sense of accomplishment and ultimately, peace of mind regarding the psychological wounds and sufferings that have affected his or her life so severely, and those he or she loves so dearly! It is hoped the medical professional will see the great value in that all-important fact. I assure you, the distinction in terms is vital to those who fought the bloodiest of battles to keep America free. I firmly believe great psychological benefit will come to those suffering from PCSD if these distinctions are recognized, welcomed and adopted by the professional medical authorities, political leaders, military, VA and community. There is no doubt in my mind they will serve their purpose well in improving the overall mental and physical health and quality of life of these severely wounded combat veterans.
Furthermore, the awarding of this well-deserved medal would serve as tangible evidence of courageous and dedicated combat service, bringing honor to the military, as well as to the individual! It would definitely prove that the military takes care of it’s own! Most importantly, recognizing such sacrifice by the presentation of this award would without doubt, foster healing of this combat affliction and definitely lessen the occurrence of many, tragic, preventable suicides that not only end the lives of it’s victims but shatters the lives of all who loved and cared about them!
Bringing dignity to PCSD and justice to its victims could very well lessen the immense cost and frequency of the care, treatment, therapy, medication and hospitalization of these warriors/veterans. Ending the stigmas presently associated with this infliction would not only be cathartic to those wounded, it would benefit every life (Secondary PTSD – negatively affects family, loved ones, friends) agonized by the disorder!

Because of these facts no one suffering from, or anyone who loves someone suffering from PCSD or Combat (related) PTSD, should have to be ashamed to say they or their personal hero has been wounded in this manner! Such mindsets and opinions are a disgrace and insult to those who suffer so much for placing life and limb in harm's way for the sake of others! These attitudes must end NOW! Through awareness and long overdue fairness, I repeat, I steadfastly propose that long overdue justice be served by the awarding of the Purple Heart Medal to all who suffer grievously from Post Combat Stress Disorder - PCSD! Why you ask? BECAUSE THESE WARRIORS HAVE BORNE THE HEAVIEST BURDENS OF HIGHLY CONTESTED BATTLES BRAVELY, BLED THE ENEMY AND WAS SEVERELY PSYCHOLOGICALLY WOUNDED IN THE PROCESS AND ARE DEEPLY SCARRED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THEIR LIFE! FREEDOM IS NEVER FREE! THEY PAY EVERY DAY - 24/7! SUPPORT PCSD PHM - PLEASE HELP THEM TAKE THE PAIN BY ENDING THE SHAME!
If you are still undecided about awarding the Purple Heart Medal for PCSD... ask yourself these questions: If a warrior/veteran commits suicide as a direct result of severe and chronic Post Combat Stress Disorder, is he a casualty of war? Is a warrior/veteran who loses his career, can't hold a job, has little or no skills in maintaining interpersonal relationships, avoids societal functions and becomes an isolationist lost in his own personal, tormented world due to severe and chronic PCSD a casualty of war? THANK YOU, YOU ARE DARN RIGHT THEY ARE! WELCOME ABOARD! WE NEED YOU to end the stigma of PCSD! It is an honorable battle wound, as worthy as any other serious wound, that merits the awarding of the Purple Heart Medal!
We are not seeking individual praise. We are seeking justice and healing by bringing honor, understanding and acceptance instead of scorn, shame and shunning, to those who suffer endlessly for the freedom of our people and nation.
PCSD victims, never forget, at Griffin's Lair no one stands alone! Out of many we are strong, proud and bound. We are an undefeatable...

THE WARRIOR SPIRIT
YOU CAN'T HAVE PCSD WITHOUT IT!
Is exemplified by bravely facing one’s deadliest fears for the sake of others, by risking life and limb for something bigger than self. It is the ultimate unselfish act of true devotion and altruism. It is vividly demonstrated by hurling oneself from an airplane in flight, by rappelling from a helicopter at a precarious height, by flying into a hot landing zone, by courageously fighting a deadly enemy on freedom's battlefields or as in our nation’s great history, like Native American Braves who took enemy coup in brazen defiance and wanton disregard for their own safety. All who suffer from PCSD live by this most honorable code and truly deserve the Purple Heart Medal. They earned it! And still do… every single day of the remainder of their lives, 24-7! Until that day finally comes, instead of the Purple Heart, you unsung heroes, please take this coup feather as a symbol of your suffering, unending bravery and devotion to our country and our people.
All those who believe in this noble cause please use it to demonstrate your fidelity with those who never hesitated to show their love for you under the most arduous and extreme tests of endurance and danger. God bless you, God bless all PCSD warriors and God bless America!

POST-COMBAT STRESS DISORDER
©ITS NOT WHAT ONE SAW, ITS WHAT ONE DID ABOUT IT!
PCSD - Definition: (worth repeating) THE MOST SERIOUS FORM OF WAR RELATED PTSD: a very serious psychological wound resulting from the direct clash of arms; the individual active participation in intense, prolonged, highly contested battle on one or more military operations; i.e. kill or be killed; direct engagement in the raw, bitter, bloody nature of war. ONLY "TIP OF THE SPEAR" FIGHTERS SHOULD BE CLASSIFIED AS SUFFERING FROM PCSD!
This does not preclude just "hunkering down" from enemy action, hearing it over a unit radio or just witnessing some of the resulting carnage of combat operations. There is a big difference in the terminology of “We killed the bear.” versus “I killed the bear!” Examples - it does not include the unloading of "body bags" in a safe rear area after a fire-fight or the mere “loading of bombs on planes.” If the latter activity resulted in an explosion that the person witnessed or was maimed as a result of… that could possibly result in a diagnosis of “Post Traumatic Stress Disorder”... to some degree. Victims of natural disasters, violent crime and car accidents would also fall into this category.
It takes more than seven people to keep one man in combat. That does not make all of them a

RECENT CHANGES TO PURPLE HEART MEDAL CTITERIA
1986 - to include wounds and deaths resulting from “friendly fire”
1996 - to include torture, beatings and deaths of Prisoners of War
2008 (Nov.) - "The Purple Heart recognizes those individuals wounded to a degree that requires treatment by a medical officer, in action with the enemy or as the result of enemy action where the intended effect of a specific enemy action is to kill or injure the service member."
FYI – military personnel who suffer Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) from IEDs are also eligible.
It is past time for warriors who suffer from PCSD wounds to also be classified eligible! If PCSD is not an enemy inflicted wound, "waterboarding" is not torture!
Since 1942 - "A wound which necessitates treatment by a medical officer and which is received in action with an enemy."
THERE IS NO MENTION OF BLOOD LOSS!
The criteria for the Purple Heart Medal has been vague since its inception and seems to evolve to fit the desires of special interests "deemed" worthy. It is time to set a fair minimum standard that encompasses all honorably wounded in battle by every weapon or tactic, psychological or otherwise, employed by the enemy to accomplish that purpose. In this age of advanced technology, modern warfare and medical science it is imperative that the criteria transition as our knowledge grows and new forms of weaponry are introduced and/or acknowledged.

~ Degradation? ~
I can understand some of those who have Purple Heart Medals for physical wounds being against the awarding of the PHM to those suffering from PCSD. But if you are one of them, I ask you to consider this before passing final judgment…. do you have a percentage of your service-connected disability compensated for PCSD? I’m sure most of you do. I am also sure that many of you have a higher disability percentage for PCSD than you do for the physical wound(s) suffered in combat. Why is that? I’ll tell you why… it is because your physical wounds, in most cases, have long since healed. The wounds to your mind and soul are still very serious threats to you whether you admit it or not. PCSD is a “wound,” yes a wound, a very serious wound… that keeps on killing!
How many veterans whether awarded or NOT awarded a PHM for “blood wounds” have taken their lives during and after military service because of PCSD? I don’t have the exact figures but I have no doubt they would astound us all! Are those suffering from PCSD currently without a PHM not your brothers? Do they not deserve your support and comradeship? Are they not counted in the rank and file of your “Band of Brothers?” I hope and pray your answer is “yes.” They deserve to be. They fought by your side and perhaps, helped save your life. And PCSD is an honorable condition that warriors suffer because they bravely fought for their county. That is why I feel PCSD be treated as any other honorable combat wound, inflicted while engaging our nation’s enemies on battlefields around the world for the sake of freedom for all; and that said wounding merits the awarding of the Purple Heart Medal.
Vietnam vets were taken unaware by PCSD and paid severe consequences in more ways than one because of being denied psychological and symptomatic knowledge of the disorder, not to mention lack of treatment. Fortunately, our Terror, Iraq and Afghanistan GIs and veterans have a heads up on the disorder because of what the Nam Vets have been through… decades of suffering, denial, the “undoing of character” and the subsequent rejection by society because of it.
Now, the “undoing of character” does not have to be… suicide does not have to be! Knowledge and treatment is readily available at Veteran Administration Medical Centers and outpatient clinics across the nation. Books, websites and literature on the subject abound and are easily obtainable.
Lets support our troops in one more very important way… recognize PCSD as a combat wound, as honorable as any wound that tears the flesh. Lets join together and END THE STIGMA TO SOLVE THE ENIGMA! Our troops deserve a bright and promising future! Lets make sure they get it! CC:)7/30/08 Adjutant MOPH, Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (NC). (I have since requested the US Senate Committee on Veteran's Affairs, the Department of Veteran's Affairs, as well as then President-elect Barack Obama and Senator John McCain to support this effort.)
Anything less defies righteousness, modern medical science, common sense and I pray, the hue and cry of the public!

AS SURELY AS THOSE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES TO BATTLE NEED TO BE REMEMBERED, THOSE WHO SURVIVED NEED TO BE UNDERSTOOD.
~ A BAND OF BROTHERS ~
THE TRUE MEANING!
SOLDIERS - warriors belong to "A BAND OF BROTHERS." Their dedication, protection and support of each other are paramount and vital! Individuals interacting on a daily basis together... in small units such as a squad, develop the "tightest bond." All depends on this undesignated, but considered near sacred, informal unit. This "banding" doctrine extends from the smallest to the largest formal units as their very survival depends on each other in major combat situations.
WAR - it starts for the band when the first brother is killed or wounded. That loss becomes their primary "cause" and supersedes all other reasons for their participating in the war. For the band there is no substitute for victory! If they do not "win"... the loss of their brothers, their extreme, exhausting efforts, and at times, inhuman conditions, their severe deprivations, sufferings, enduring of foreign diseases, bloody sacrifices, as well as their many worries are... all for nothing!
POLITICS - if forced to abandon their cause (loss of blood/brother) because of weak-kneed politicians or lack of support by the American public, THAT DEGRADING ORDER will cause severe depression and become a major factor complicating PCSD and combat PTSD... PTSD that your warrior/veteran will never overcome... EVER! Additionally, in their minds, betrayal by politicians and lack of support on their HOMEFRONT strips them of their honor as a band and steals their dignity as an individual! Do not do this to them, they do not deserve it! You ask them to accept the possibility of making the supreme sacrifice... loss of life and/or limb as well as their mental health, and put them in harms way. They accept their sworn duty... courageously, vigorously and wholeheartedly and complete their missions successfully! There is nothing they will not accomplish or endure for YOU and OUR NATION! They have always done what they are asked to do! When they receive news from home the last thing they want to hear is that their nation and the public is war-weary! What a wimpy thing to say to those you expect and demand constant, repetitive heroism from... think about it! DO NOT DENY THEM THEIR VICTORY AND HONOR! Our people must realize that the only way WE will win against guerilla warfare and terrorism is by becoming one nation under God! We must all become a patriotic, dedicated, tireless, gallant member of...
"A BAND OF BROTHERS!"

"AQM EDITORIAL CONCERNING A PCSD PHM"
(Excerpt from AQM, WINTER 2008, Volume 21, Number 4) RE: Pentagon's negative decision on PTSD PHM
"It is not clear if those doing the review at DOD (Department of Defense) gave any thought to Pete's philosophy that PTSD may have gradations and that his belief that what he defines as PCSD may be the apex of the pyramid and should be considered as distinct from the popular perception of what PTSD really is!
My vote----change the inscription on the reverse of the Purple Heart (presently - 'for military merit')----have the VA establish gradations of 'Stress Disorder' predicated on degree of exposure to prolonged front line combat duty and compensate accordingly."

"Grif" enlisted in the U.S. Army on 13 March 1964 (AGE-17) and was honorably discharged on 10 March 1967, attaining the rank of SP/4. His unit assignments were Company A, 2/502nd Infantry, 101st Airborne Division (Vietnam July 1965 - June 1966) and Company C, 2/505th Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division. On Memorial Day weekend, 1998, he was inducted into the 502nd Infantry Distinguished Members of the Regiment, Halls of Fame, in a ceremony at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. After discharge he attended the Police Academy at Syracuse, New York and served as a Police Officer in Oswego, New York from 1968-78. He also attended the State University of New York (SUNY) @ Oswego, completing several public justice, psychology, sociology and civil liberty courses.
His military decorations include: the Viet Nam Service Medal with two bronze battle stars, the Silver Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal with device (1960), the Republic of Viet Nam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Presidential Unit Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Valorous Unit Citation, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Parachute Badge, the Army Republic of Vietnam Paratrooper Badge, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Recondo Patch, the National Defense Service Medal and the Expert Rifleman Badge. He recently received the Conspicuous Service Star with four accoutrements and the Conspicuous Service Cross from the State of New York for his patriotic service.
After his well-deserved retirement, LTG Henry (Gunfighter) E. Emerson, Grif's former battalion commander (then Lieutenant Colonel) directly and personally decorated Grif with a Silver Star Medal (bearing the General's name) and an Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. The General also posthumously awarded Grif's KIA brother, John with the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, also bearing the General's name. Although unofficial, this most honorable, gracious and remarkable act of brotherhood and recognition of military deeds of valor and merit of the two combat paratrooper brothers will forever remain in the thoughts, hearts and minds of the entire Griffin family. Gunfighter was a most beloved, gallant officer and true friend and his personal relationship with the Griffins will forever be honored, respected and deeply cherished. Grif and his wife, Brenda were honored to have been personally invited to the General's funeral at Arlington National Cemetery. Their attendance to honor this great man and leader was an experience they will never forget.
Two of his brothers were also paratroopers. The oldest, "Jackie" was killed in action while serving with Company G, 2/187th ARCT in heavy fighting two days after jumping in behind enemy lines at Munsan-ni, South Korea in March of 1951. His brother, "Billy" was an "Atomic Veteran" who served with Company A, 1/188th PIR, 11th Airborne Division. Billy and the brave men of his outfit participated in "Operation Buster/Jangle" at Camp Desert Rock, Nevada in 1951. They were the first soldiers to be exposed to several nuclear test detonations in close support of ground troops.
"Grif" married Brenda Gibson in 1967. They are blessed with daughter Pamela, and son, Brent. They are the proud grandparents of three lovely granddaughters Emilie, Meaghan, and Georgia, as well as grandson, Connor. (Meet them at Grif's childrens website, "TARA'S TALE, The Wood Witch of Mineral Springs.") Pete and Brenda have resided in The Great State of North Carolina for the past 37 years.
Besides "putting the spotlight" on PCSD via "Griffin's Lair", his interests include American history... especially the Civil War, collecting antiques, refinishing old furniture, spending time with his dogs, mountain trout fishing, writing and colonial coin collecting. In addition to his two books Grif's writings have appeared in several military magazines and newspapers including "THE SCREAMING EAGLE”, “THE FIRST SCREAMING EAGLES IN VIETNAM”, “THE AIRBORNE QUARTERLY” and the 101ST AIRBORNE DIVISION (2nd edition) by Turner Publishing Company.

As you navigate through life be leery of all who oppose patriotism, for the disdain of some will reveal their true purpose: the subrogation of our ideals, the division of our people, and the eventual collapse of our nation. The guise of political correctness can cloak an evil that is capable of destroying us all! Grif

POST COMBAT STRESS DISORDER, “PCSD”
By Peter S. Griffin - 25 October 2010
After the vicious battles are fought and done,
You tend to think its’ all over and you have won…
Little do you know, your personal torture is about to start,
PCSD, without warning, stabs you through the heart…
The invisible wounds of war cut so very deep,
Tormenting your mind, both awake and asleep…
To ruin, then destroy you, into your soul it creeps,
Denial, intoxication, self-medication, offer no relief!
Years go by, fighting the enemy I have come to know,
Must warn young warriors, before they fight the beast, toe-to-toe!
To bare all and humble oneself for the sake of others,
I pray, is a noble, worthy act, of a true friend and brother…
Solemnly, I bow my weary head and reverently kneel,
“Dear Jesus, please, I ask, for my words to comfort and heal…
All our GIs and combat veterans who fought the good fight,
That these writings help turn their gloom to heavenly light…
Please bless our warriors, family and friends, who read these pages,
Grant them all peace, love and understanding throughout the ages.
