Winfield Scott Balderson
Winfield Scott Balderson was Ada's father. It is believed that due to the Quaker influence that has been with the Balderson/Balderston family for several generations, he had been disowned by his family for alcoholism problems.
He had told Ada he was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian, held the position of story-teller of the tribe. He also claimed that in order for him and his brothers to leave the Indian Reservation, they had to take on a created white man's name of Balderson which was created by the United States Government. Because of this story, it blocked the family for three generations of learning their true history. It was not until the names of Winfield Scott's parents became known, was the key that opened the door to learn the true history. Unfortunately, Ada never got the opportunity to learn her true history as she had already passed on.
Winfield Scott Balderson had dropped his first name of Winfield and went by his middle name of Scott. He married a full-blooded German name Minnah Stabenow. Based on the divorce papers, they got a divorce when Ada was seven years-old.
Even though he was known as the "town drunk" during his time, Ada remembered as a girl how he was gifted in music and played Classical Symphony music on the Stradavarious violin. This is what made me first suspicious of the Indian story in the first place as American Indians are not known to play that type of music or playing the violin in that time era.
Based on some of Ada's stories, he had walked in the blizzard in Beatrice, Nebraska to get a doctor during the time of Ada's birth. He was also known for a good heart as he liked giving away candy to kids on the street in Beatrice, Nebraska. He was estranged from his family George Balderson and Sarah Davis and thus, Ada never met her grandparents.

From talking to a Nurse from Germany, the actual surname may have been spelled as Stabenou instead of Stabenow. From that he stated it was a southern name from the Black Forest and more than likely from his Province. The province would have been Baden-Wurtenberg in which the larger townships there would have been Bayern, Atsou-Loraine, and Pforzheim. As to her mother, where the marriage license was not that clear, he said her mother's first name was actually Ulricke which is pronounced (UL - RICKEY) which is definately a German Female name where ULRICK is a male name in German. There is no English translation to the first name. However, the surname Schultz is as common in Germany as Smith and Jones are in the United States.
