Control of Information and History

By David Lohr

Throughout the novel this theme is brought out many times. Big Brother, the overall ruler, has the history of his country changed so that it seems the country only has one enemy. There is a whole organization set up to change history and Winston works as a rewriter of history. This is a form of corruption at its best.

Language as Mind Control

By Dylan Grayson

Political speakers manipulate the words they use for the most desirable public reaction and opinion. News of military conquest overseas is sugar coated to mock reassure the people. If everyone heard the real truth they’d rebel in large numbers. The powers that be know this. In the novel proles allowed thought for they do not think. Party members are those who are conditions by language.
