DURHAM -- Fire gutted a vacant house at 700 S. Roxboro St. near downtown Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.
Firefighters were called to the wood frame, single-story house at the intersection of Enterprise Street about 2 p.m. and remained the scene about 1 and a half hours, according to Battalion Chief Tamala Wilson of the Durham Fire Department.
Wilson said officials Thursday evening hadnt determined who owned the house. She said it had no furniture or appliances.
There was nothing inside, she said.
About 21 firefighters from four stations, headquarters downtown, station 2 on Ninth Street, station 3 on South Miami Boulevard and station 4 on Riddle Road, fought the blaze. No one was injured.
Wilson said the roof had caved in when they arrived and flames were pouring out of the house.
She said the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
