DURHAM -- A Durham teen was injured Sunday afternoon in an accident at Tidewater Fibre Corp. at 1017 S. Hoover Road.
The 13-year-old boy suffered a broken leg and was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment, according to police.
According to witnesses, approximately six teenage boys trespassed on the property and broke into two recycling trucks, which had the keys in them.
The injured boy, 17-year-old Dominic Hayes of East End Avenue and another 13-year-old were standing in one truck when the accident occurred around 2:15 p.m. Each truck had two steering wheels -- one on the left side and one on the right side. Harris was using the left steering wheel and Hayes was using the right wheel when the vehicle sped up and turned over on its right side, police said.
Investigators charged Hayes with careless and reckless driving.
