Rohan Banner

I made this banner to carry in the parade at Dragon*Con 2004. I will be marching as Eowyn in her Refugee Dress. It is based on a banner that was in Theodan's Throne Room in The Two Towers. I bought all of my supplies at JoAnn fabrics for fairly cheap. I used 1.5 yds of green cotton, 0.5 yds white cotton, 0.25 yds of gold cotton, a few yards of gold ribbon, and gold, green, and white thread.

For the celtic knots, I got patterns off of various websites. I drafted my own pattern for the horse. Basically, I cut out the pieces according to each pattern, and used a straight stitch to sew them down onto the flag. After that, I went back over the edges with a satin stitch (like they were appliques). I also used the satin stitch in the celtic knots with the green thread, giving the appearence of weaving and overlapping.
