Chapter Twenty-Three -- A Kiss In The Rain

Suddenly, Nick sees Lori's finger moving a little. He quickly calls the doctor over.

~ 2 months later ~

Lori woke up that day. The doctor said it was quiet a rare case because not many people would wake up again after such a bad injury. Since Lori woke up, Nick is expecting a brand new start in their relationship. But out of his expectation, Lori seems to be avoiding him as best as she can. He comes to visit Lori as usual, but when he enters the room today, instead of seeing Lori, he sees an empty bed. He stops a nurse and asks, "Excuse me, where is the patient in this room?"

"Oh... the patient left this morning with her mom."

"Thanks!" Nick quickly gets to his car and drives to Lori's house. "Why... why didn't she tell me?" Nick thinks to himself. He arrives at Lori's house and rings the door bell, Lori's mom answers the door.

"Hi Mrs. Lee."

"Nick, come on in." Nick then finds Kevin and Melissa sitting in the living room, "Hey Nick!"

"Kev and Mel, what are guys doing here?"

"We wanna invite Lori to our engagement party next month, but she's not home yet."

"Nick..." Lori's mom speaks out, "I'm really worry about Lori, she is not picking up her cell phone. This morning, we came back, she said she wanna went out for a walk after staying in the hospital in such a long time. But she didn't come home til now, and it's raining so hard outside, I wonder where she goes..."

"Mrs. Lee, don't worry, I'll go find her. I think I know where she is."

Before Nick steps out the front door, Melissa goes up to him, "Nick, it's been a really hard time for Lori... she always thinks that she doesn't deserves you. But she really needs you Nick... we'll be waiting for your good news."

Nick drives to the Central Park. It's raining so hard that he can hardly see. He finds Lori sitting on "their" bench next to the fountain, she is all soaked. Nick slowly goes up to her and gives her his jacket.

"Lori, it's cold out here... look, you're all wet, come on, let's go home."

Lori turns around and walks away. Nick hold on to her arm tightly.

"Nick, let me go..."

"No! I'm never gonna let you go." He turns Lori around, put both hands on Lori's arms. "Lori, don't avoid me anymore, please..."

"Nick... I've told you, you and I will never be..."

"Why? Just because you're Peter Lee's daughter?"

"I don't deserve you, Nick..." Lori starts to cry.

"That's bull shit Lori. Look at me, I'm telling you that no matter who you are, even you're the daughter of the biggest drug dealer in LA, or even in the whole world, I'm still going to love you. I love you for who you are but not what you are. No matter what happen, you're still gonna be the Lori I always love."

"Nick... I... I... don't love you anymore." She cries harder.

"You're lying! Why are you crying then?" Then he holds up her hand, "why are you stilling wearing the ring, and WHY did you take the bullet for me??? I don't think that's what you mean by you don't love me!"

Lori cannot hold it anymore. She slowly leans forward into Nick's arms and starts to cry even harder. She whispers, "Nick... I love you... I love you..." Nick looks at her and then they kiss. The kiss that makes them feel like they're the only ones in the whole entire world and nothing else matters anymore.
