Chapter One -- Meant To Be...
"Whew!" What a relief! I came out from the audition room. That was five years ago...
My name is Loretta. Well, I was 19 at that time. For the past 19 years, I was always a normal and unknown person to the entire world. I used to think that my life is a bit too normal comparing to the others. Nothing really big or surprising had ever happened in my life. Except in the summer after my high school graduation, I got the chance to meet my favorite boy band, the Backstreet Boys in person, going backstage!!! Anyways, after that, I went off college as other teenagers would, I attended UC Davis in California, majoring in Chemistry, dreaming of being a cool Forensic Chemist, working for the FBI Investigation Labs... (dreams...)
By that time, I was in Orlando, Florida, the hometown of the Backstreet Boys. I was having my nice summer vacation down there. One night, my family went out with my aunt's friend, Annie, who was then working for a record company; we went to karaoke and had a lot of fun. The next morning, Annie called me up and asked whether I wanted to go to the auditions held by the record company.
So, that very morning, I woke up early and got ready for the audition. I guessed I've done a pretty good job. Well, I was just going for fun anyways. Here in the US, people started their singing career like when they were 14 or something. I didn't even sent in a demo tape to get to the audition. But once I got to the audition, I was actually pretty surprise because it was held by the Jive Records, the company Backstreet Boys belong to.
Anyways, after the audition, I went to a beach closed to the hotel, sat there relaxing, listening to the Backstreet music. All of a sudden, my cell phone rang.
"Hello?"
<Loretta? This is Annie!>
"Hey Annie, wassup?"
<You did a good job in the audition just now.>
"Thanks!"
<Well, I've got a good news for ya! You made into the final audition... it's next saturday, same time, same place, okay? Congrats girl!> She hung up.

Saturday -- 10:00 am ~
I was so nervous that I hardly got any sleep the night before.
For some reason, I just wanna look natural, so I put on light
make-up and a casual outfit and headed for the audition.

Outside the Jive Records Audition Room -- 11:30 am ~
There were
about 10 girls there. I started to walk around, I saw the girls
entering and leaving one by one, and finally my name was called.
"Is Loretta Ho here? Miss Ho?" a lady asked.
"Yes! Over here!" I responded.
"Come with me please, it's your turn."
Once I step into the room, I couldn't believe in my eyes. Backstreet Boys were there for the audition! The lady explained that the BSB wanted to sign someone under their KBNHA Records. Okay... that made me even more nervous.
"Loretta... Chinese... 19 years old... you're gonna sing a song written by yourself? Wow! Sounds good to me!" Kevin Richardson, the eldest member of the BSB, said, he then smiled at me and said, "I guess you can start now."

The 5 minutes of singing seemed to be forever to me. All of the Backstreet Boys had their attention on me. Oh goodness! Maybe because of the fact that Nick Carter is my favorite BSB, I felt confident and more comfortable when I looked at him. Throughout the whole time, Nick was the only person that stayed in my range of vision.
