The two of them were on the run.
They were two, but thought as one.
Two hunters, now hunted by man
Are driven away from their land.
Two were running, but one would stay,
So that his mate might get away.
To draw them off he stood his ground
To let his loved one slip around.
Their hate was strong. Their anger flared.
Not even one life would be spared.
Their thirst for blood opened season
To shoot and kill without reason.
A lightning flash, an awful sound-
A mighty force that knocked him down.
The smell of blood, the burning pain-
He felt his life begin to wane.
With all his strength he looked to see
His mate was safe, and running free.
He tried once more to raise his head.
The lightning flashed. He was dead.
The day is over. It is done.
Once there were two. Now there is one,
Only one solitary wolf alone.
In the night you can hear her moan.
The price of hate runs far too high
When it may cause someone to die.
When he saved her, he paid the cost.
She cries for love that she has lost.

Chased from the world I once shared with man
Now I must seek asylum wherever I can
Blamed for so many things I've never done
They point and say "there, he's the one".
Once like the buffalo my numbers were great
But now for some company I constantly wait
My sleep is filled with dreams of days gone by
and each morning I awake with a tear in my eye.
They call me a predator, they don't understand
I'm simply a hunter with no gun in hand
I desire no trophy to hang on my wall
But just a full belly when night starts to fall.
Envious of my dog cousins and his master's love
And howling with loneliness to the Heaven's above
Though I long for a touch or a pat on the head
By nature's decision I'll have freedom instead.
Married for life to such a beautiful mate
Until last winter when a bullet decided her fate
The pups are all grown and gone from the den
And I'm too old and stubborn to start over again.
Now I'm truly a loner the legend is true
But forever searching for a friend like you
It's so hard to express but I'll try if I can
In your own words "hey I love you man".
As your world grows and buildings get taller
My little hiding place keeps getting smaller
If you don't come to your senses sometime soon
Then who will be left to howl at the moon?

As the Wolf is pushed to the brink of extinction
He looks back on those who have pushed him there.
There is no malice in his eyes.
Just a kind of grim understanding.
For he knows that it is not him that is lost,
But the tame humans
Who have lost their true spirit.
The wild calls to him.
And he follows.
He follows, knowing where his path will lead him.
But he follows none the less.
For he can no more ignore his spirit,
Than he can not be a Wolf.
And he knows that when he is gone from this world,
His legacy will live on.
For even if his species is forever gone,
The true spirit of the Wolf can never die...

As I look into the eyes of brother wolf, I see honor,
strength,and dignity.
So I wonder, how can man destroy these wonderful
creations of the creator.
Look into the eyes of a wolf and you shall see
your soul laid bare,
And know that there are greater things in this world
other than material wealth.
Look deep into the wolf eyes and you shall see
The greatest creature to have ever walk this earth.
Look into your own eyes
And see the greatest destroyer that walks this earth.
I am starting to learn that man does not have to be as he is,
We to , can have . . . wolf eyes.
. . . . Ladywolf . . . .
