The afternoon went well. Nick and Brianna spent most of it just sitting around talking. It felt good for the both of them to finally spend some time together and things seemed just like normal. Brianna sat snuggled up to Nick’s side while they talked about her classes, the tour, Aaron, and anything else that came to mind. They both missed the warm weather and were anxiously waiting for the summer. Nick told her about his plans for a solo CD.
“The fellas seem really understanding about it and supportive, ya know. Brian and Kev want to take some time anyway to enjoy being married. I dunno, but I suspect Brian’s ready to try, well ya know, for Leighanne to get pregnant. He’s ready to be a dad.”
“You all need a break, from touring and from each other. This will be good for all of you. Have you started working on the CD yet?”
“Just some ideas floating around. I jot things down as they come to me. Actually, I want to try and write for most of the CD, if not all of it. You know how it is, I got so much stuff floating around up here, “ he pointed to his head, “and in here” he pointed to his chest, “it’s gotta come out one way or another. Brian’s been working with me on the guitar, too. I’ll have to show you. We’re even talking about making some changes to the show. But that’s all still in the talks, ya know.” Nick gave her a little squeeze and kissed the top of her head.
Brianna laughed a little and hugged him back. “You’re always doing that.”
“Doing what?”
“Kissing the top of my head, like a big brother or father or something.”
“How ‘bout best friend?” He laughed and kissed her head again just for the fun of it.
“Ya know, I remember the first time you kissed me, and it was on the top of the head. You were so funny cause you realized after that my mom was watching.”
“Really? When was that?” He knew when it was. He remembered Mrs. Kinadle teasing him and telling him that she was going to tell Bree’s father that Nick was kissing their little girl. Nick started to panic and tried to explain it was just friendly. He was stuttering and tripping all over his words when he heard Mrs. Kinadle laugh. Bree broke into his thoughts.
“When she told you she was just teasing and it was okay, I think you let out the biggest sigh I’ve ever heard.”
“Well, I was relieved and with good reason. Your dad’s not the easiest man to win trust from. In fact, he’s pretty intimidating when he wants to be.”
“Yeah, but you don’t have anything to worry about. He likes you. If it weren’t for you I doubt I would have ever gotten out of the house and had fun. They trust you. Why? I don’t know.” She teased.
“Hey! I worked hard to earn that trust. I watch out for you, little girl.”
“You mean you try and scare everyone away, Goliath.” And so the tickling match was on.
