CHAPTER 39

“Just keep your hat pulled down, okay?” Tony was telling Nick.

“Don’t worry, no one knows I’m gonna be here. Besides, it’s dark.” Nick and Tony got a drink from the bar before finding a table in the corner. After a few minutes Nick spoke again. “So, do you see her?”

“Nope, not yet. Wait, is that her?” Tony was pointing to a group of people at the far edge of the dance floor.

“Which one?” Nick was looking but didn’t see anyone he could recognize.

“The one in black.”

“Tony, WHICH one in black?”

“There.” He said pointing to a girl standing with her back to them. “The one in the mini skirt and halter top, or whatever you call those things they try to pull of as shirts.”

“Damn!” Nick took a swallow of his drink and sat back.

“You gonna go over there or what?”

“No, I think I’ll just watch for a second. Has she always looked like that?”

Tony laughed at Nick. “Yeah, she has. Where’ve you been? I’ll be back in a sec. Don’t go no where, and for God’s sake keep your hat pulled down over your eyes.”

“Yeah, whatever dad.” Nick watched as Tony disappeared in the direction of the restrooms. Turning his attention back to the group he noticed they all seemed quite happy and friendly with each other. He rarely got a chance to just sit back and watch her with her friends. He had wondered from time to time what she was like when he wasn’t around. When Tony returned Nick decided he’d go ahead and go talk with her.

Walking up behind her he wrapped his arms around her rubbing his hands along her bare belly. At first she jumped a little but relaxed as soon as she heard his voice. Placing his lips right by her ear he spoke. “Hey you. How come you never dress like this when I take you out?” He kept his head down so the bill of his cap was hiding his face from the rest of the group.

Leaning back into him some she asked, “What are you doing here? I thought you were on the road?” Bree turned her head a little to try and see him, but he kept his head close to hers and his mouth right over her ear.

“I was. I was on the road to come and get you. I wanted to surprise you. Surprised?”

Finally, she turned her body some so she could look him in the eyes. “Very.” She said before leaning in to kiss him. He almost pulled away, but figured his anoniminity was safe for the moment due to the darkness of the club and his face being hidden and all. Besides, kissing her felt so good. So, instead of pulling away he hugged her in closer. That is until he heard Tony clearing his throat behind him.

“Nick,” he tried to say as quietly as he could and still be heard over the music, “You’re in a public place.”

Bree smiled and hugged Nick. Looking over his shoulder she said hello to Tony. Then to Nick she asked “So, is this what all the questions were about this afternoon? Trying to figure out where I was gonna be?” She was smiling at him and running her thumb along his lips, absolutely fascinated by them. Nick seemed to be fascinated by what she was doing and only nodded his head. In his mind he was thinking she was acting a little strange, but reasoned that maybe it was only because she was getting used to the changes between them.

Megan walked up behind Brianna placing an arm around her shoulders. It was then that she realized the strange guy kissing her friend was actually Nick. Trying not to smile or let him know in anyway that she recognized him she spoke directly to Brianna. “There you are. How you feeling? Good?” Brianna kept looking at Nick but nodded her head. “Well come and dance with us, and bring your cute friends with you.” Megan said before giving Brianna a kiss on the cheek and walking away.

“Come dance with me?” She didn’t have to ask twice. Before turning away she looked back over at Tony, “Please come too.” He started to protest but she pouted and went to hug him. “Please Tony, you can’t just sit around and watch, that’s no fun.” He gave in and followed them all to the dance floor.
