Brianna heard banging. It was non-stop and very annoying. Classes had been cancelled and all she wanted to do was sleep. Rolling over and looking at her clock she groaned. It was 8:30 a.m.
“Great.” She muttered. She had only been asleep for a little over two hours and now someone was banging at her door expecting her to leave the warm comfort of her bed. Exhaustion almost won, but the person at the door just wouldn’t give up. So, throwing the covers back, Brianna rubbed her eyes and staggered to her front door, throwing it open without looking out the peephole. “What!” She snapped.
“Sorry. Damn you look like hell.”
“Megan? What? What are you doing up this early? What are you doing here?” Brianna stopped to think trying to remember if they had classes today. Did she somehow forget about them? No, she was positive classes were cancelled until tomorrow.
“Good morning to you too, Miss Sunshine. Late night?” Megan asked brushing past Brianna and sitting down on the couch.
“Sure come on in.” Brianna mumbled to the empty doorway. “Just make yourself at home. No, no I’m not tired. In fact I’ve been awake.” She continued as she shuffled to a chair in the living room and flopped her weight into it.
“Cheerful aren’t we?” Megan continued. “I was just worried about you. You haven’t been answering when I call. And I just wanted to check on you.”
“Well, I’m here.” Brianna answered as she stretched her arms above her head and gave way to a big yawn.
Laughing a little Megan went on. “I can see that dear. I’m sorry to wake you; I was just a little worried. Where have you been?”
“With Mitchell.”
“Oh.” Was all Megan answered.
“What is that supposed to mean?” Brianna snapped.
“Nothing. Geesh, don’t bite my head off. Just I should have figured you be with Mr. Hottie. Is this supposed to mean you’ve made up your mind?” She asked with a smile.
“Made up my… OH. No, no. Well, maybe.” Brianna shook her head and looked out the window. Did I make up my mind?
Megan’s chuckle brought her mind back to the present. “Girl, you are so stuck, you know that. I can understand your dilemma though. Two cute guys, two great guys, which one do you choose?”
“What ever.” Brianna smiled. “So, just why ARE you awake and so chipper this morning?”
“I told you, I came to see if you were still alive and breathing. Can’t a friend check up on her friend once in a while?”
“Of course, silly. I’m just tired. It was an extremely late night. I swear Mitchell is more of a night owl than I ever was. But he has a way of taking my mind of off things, so…” Takes my mind off everything to a point where I just feel good all over. Sometimes I wonder how he always knows just what I need.
“Well, at least he is taking good care of you, even if I don’t get to see you much outside of class. What do you say we do the girl thing, Friday? Hit 626, roll a little, and see who we can find.”
Brianna was nodding her head. It sounded like an excellent idea. “Sure, I can do that.”
“Great! How about you get dressed and we’ll go get some breakfast. I have a craving for IHOP.”
The thought of food made Brianna’s stomach churn. Shaking her head she went on to say, “Megan I can’t even think of eating anything right now. All I want to do is crawl back in bed and sleep for the rest of the day. Can I take a rain check on that?”
Megan stood from the couch and walked to the front door. “Sure, girlfriend. I’ll let ya get some sleep. The biggest thing is I wanted to make sure you were hanging in there okay. I’ll see ya tomorrow and we can finalize plans for Friday night, okay?”
“You bet. And Megan?” Megan stopped at the door and turned around. “Thanks for stopping by.”
“Anytime. Get some sleep.” She let herself out of the apartment and Brianna went back to her bed practically asleep before her head even touched the pillows.
