Random Thoughts on Entertainment (music, movies, TV, etc.)

Mel Gibson as Mad Max in The Road Warrior; Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz in Vanilla Sky; Keanu Reeves in The Matrix

Why must all these movies and tv shows genres come in pairs? For example: Bug movies: 'Antz' and 'Bug's Life', Asteroid movies: 'Armeggedon' and 'Deep Impact', Teen slasher movies: 'Scream' and 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' Teen Slasher movie parodies: 'Scary Movie' and 'I Know What You Screamed Last Summer', Invisible people: 'The Invisible Man' TV series on sci-fi and the 'Hollow Man' movie, Saturday Night Live wannabes: 'Mad TV' and 'Lrycists Lounge Show', Dramatic war movies: 'Saving Private Ryan' and 'The Thin Red Line', hey-guess-what-the-real-world-is-actually-a-virtual-reality-from-a-computer movies: 'The Matrix' and 'The 13th Floor', and the worst (or best)example of this trend: 'Lover or Loser' and 'Friends or Lovers' which are on the same network and come on right after each other.

Kiefer Sutherland's full name is Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland.

Weird fact: Keanu Reeves has said "whoa" in every movie he's ever been in.

Best Movie Line: "Dude, we're in Heaven, and we just mugged three people." -Keanu Reeves, playing his character Ted Logan in 'Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey'.

Skynyrd rules.

"The Shawshank Redemption" is the defining movie of my generation.

What is up with movies being called a "Spike Lee Joint"? Did he direct or produce or what? Was Titanic called a "James Cameron Joint"? No . . .

Remember, kids: Sting plays bass.

The Fast & the Furious is the absolutley most unoriginal movie of all time. Think I'm wrong? Think about this . . .

The F&F stole Point Break's plot. Damn near to the letter as well. Both movies are about a undercover cop portrayed by a bad actor (Keanu Reeves, Paul Walker), who goes undercover in a "rebellious youth" environment (surfing, street racing) in order to solve a crime spree (bank robberies, electronic equipment theft). He befriends one of the guys he was trying to get inside dope from (Patrick Swayze, Vin Deisel). Then he discoveres his new friend is the one of the criminals he was trying to catch in the first place, only to let the criminal/friend get away in the end (one last wave, drives away in a 10-second car).

Also, the final action sequence of The Fast and the Furious is a complete and utter rip-off of the final action sequence of The Road Warrior. In The Road Warrior, Mad Max (Mel Gibson) is driving a big rig and several other smaller cars are trying to high-jack the truck. Max stops these guys using his shotgun. In The F&F, Vin Desiel and Co. are driving their souped-up Hondas and trying to high-jack a big-rig. But the truck driver stops them using his shotgun. Pretty damn similar, eh? If I was George Miller (director and producer of all the Mad Max films) I'd sue the pants off the F&F director.

So . . . by combining the fact the F&F has the same plot as Point Break and used the same action scene/car chase as The Road Warrior, you find that the only thing original about F&F is the street racing concept. But they stole that idea from kids who somehow couldn't graduate high school but know the ends and outs of a wacked-out nitrous-boosted V8 engine like it ain't nothin'.

I absolutley love the movie Vanilla Sky. I never get tired of watching it. It just makes you relize that life is worth living. The theme of the movie is that it's the little things in life that truly make the diffrence. But so many people think the movie is about cyronization. Its not. Cryonization is used as a vehicle to get the theme across. And Cameron Crowe (the director) does such a good job with the soundtrack. His use of "Good Vibrations" borders on genius.

Isn't it great how in the three years from 1983 to 1986, Sean Connery went from a still young-looking hero to an aged silver fox? Think about it, in 1983 he played James Bond for the last time (albeit an aged Bond) in Never Say Never Again, then his next role was as an immortal Scottish warrior in Highlander. I suppose its becuase when people saw Connery in the silver-fox role in Highlander, they loved it, so his silver fox roles continue to today.

Why can't these movie villains figure out that if you kill the father, you just can't kill the son, no matter how hard you try. It's like a rule!

Or, in the case of the American Revolution movie The Patriot, vice versa. If you kill the son, good luck with the father.

HOLY CRAP! Looks like there will be a fourth Mad Max movie, starring good ole Mel Gibson and maybe Heath Ledger as Max Jr or the Feral Kid (the kid with the razor boomarang in The Road Warrior). This ain't no dumb internet rumor either, this story was on Fox News Channel and in Newsweek. Sign me and Chris up for the midnight showing!

How does William Shakespeare not win the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay every time one of his plays is made into a film?

When Madonna covered "American Pie," that was the day that good taste died.

I have discovered the reason for the very abrupt ending in Jurrasic Park 3. It turns out, the director wanted a three way battle on the beach between a T-Rex, a Spinosaurus and the Marines, which would of been the coolest scene in cinema history but the producers weren't willing to put up the money.
