BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY

The Blue Ridge High Country is in the Northwestern-most corner of North Carolina. It consists of six mountain counties and over 125 of the most scenic miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Some of the more familiar towns in our area are Blowing Rock, Boone, Banner Elk, Beech Mountain, West Jefferson, Sparta, Wilkesboro, Spruce Pine and Little Switzerland.

BILTMORE ESTATES

Explore Biltmore House, a magnificent 250-room château filled with priceless art and antiques. Stroll through century-old gardens designed by America’s first landscape architect. Savor award-winning wines and taste our chefs’ creations using estate-raised foods. Enjoy our 8,000 acres of forests, farmlands, and rivers on bikes, horseback, and rafts. We invite you to discover Biltmore Estate—named a national wonder and one of America’s top destinations by National Geographic Traveler.

LINN COVE VIADUCT

Perhaps the most photographed section of the entire Blue Ridge Parkway is the marvel of modern engineering known as the Linn Cove Viaduct. The last link of the Parkway to be finished, the Viaduct was completed in 1987. A key factor in the decision to construct the viaduct was environmental impact--they did not want to cut into a mountain, but rather, to wrap a bridge around one! The most complicated concrete bridge ever built, the Viaduct snakes around Linn Cover in an s-shaped curve. Visitors can get out at the Linn Cove visitor's center and hike down on a handicapped-accessible trail to a beautiful view of the Viaduct.

MOUNT MITCHELL STATE PARK

The highest mountain in eastern America, Mount Mitchell soars 6,684 feet into the misty haze. Only a few miles from the parkway on North Carolina Highway 128, the towering peak is a favorite attraction of many who visit western North Carolina. On the summit is Mount Mitchell State Park, comprised of 1,224 acres. Comfortable facilities are available, of course, for camping picnicking, hiking, and dining.
