Which of the following light sources
and apparatus will have the light disperse?
A. Sunlight and I.
B. Sunlight and II.
C. Monochromatic light and I.
D. Monochromatic light and II.
The dispersion of light is when light is broken
into its different frequencies. Sunlight has all colors of light
where monochromatic light is light of a single frequency.
Monochromatic light cannot be dispersed.
The dispersion occurs because different
frequencies of light are refracted different amounts. In apparatus
II the angle of incidence is 0o both entering the glass and
leaving the glass. Refraction does not occur if the angle of
incidence is 0o.
