Hall And Nash

For those of us who still believed in the Outsiders as a unit, there was a flicker of hope when Nitro convened in Las Vegas on July 13. A chance at reconciliation. Kevin Nash raced to the ring, exchanged a Wolfpac sign high-five with a groggy Scott Hall at the conclusion of Hall's match with Hollywood Hogan, then turned to attack Hogan. And got blindsided by Hall. After Hall pummelled Nash, embraced Hogan, and left with NWO Hollywood, the truth was inescapable. The Outsiders were split for good. And one other truth was self-evident. Scott Hall and Kevin Nash will wrestle each other. Unthinkable. For those who jumped on the NWO bandwagon the minute it hit town two years ago, the split of the Outsiders is heartbreaking. Demoralizing. These guys not only invented the NWO, they reinvented wrestling cool. Everything Hogan does now, all his mannerisms, he's just ripping off stuff Hall and Nash came up with. Every time Hogan makes that Wolfpac sign -- and that's what it's always been, the Wolfpac sign -- and every time he says he's "too sweeeet!" and every time he gestures that he's "NWO 4 life," he's just reminding everyone that he's not cool, but that Hall and Nash are. Hogan could never be cool on his own, so he had to copy two guys who are. Then he had to split them apart. With Hall and Nash together, Hogan's lack of cool would be overwhelmingly evident. But with Hall and Nash apart and with Hall in NWO Hollywood giving Hogan a rub, teaching him how to be cool, well, Hogan can appear somewhat hip under those circumstances. So Hogan set out to create those circumstances. Hall has had some personal problems lately, problems that made him vulnerable. Hogan preyed on Hall's vulnerability by offering money, power and prestige. Hall took the bait. Better men than Scott Hall have fallen for similar traps. And now Scott Hall and Kevin Nash will wrestle each other. Hall and Nash have been friends for years, with that friendship dating back through their stint with another wrestling promotion. They came up with the NWO idea before entering WCW, then came in and took over. Their biggest coup was recruiting Hogan to the NWO because of the instant credibility it added. But it also turned out to be their biggest mistake. I'm sure that if Hall and Nash had known Hogan would rip their friendship asunder, they would have never agreed to associate with Hogan. But what's done is done. Hall turned on Nash during a defense of their world tag team titles at Slamboree a few months back. Nash's attempted reconcilation with Hall at Las Vegas failed in front of the whole world. And now Scott Hall and Kevin Nash will wrestle each other. In terms of entertainment, this feud will be unbelievable. Those two will go to any lengths to beat each other, so I expect a lot of creativity out of both. There will be some memorable matches. What goes down will be enjoyable to watch. But not for me. I've been tight with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash practically since the day they invaded WCW. They came in as Outsiders and, as a former dirt-sheet writer, I've always kind of been an outsider among the wrestlers. Scott and Kevin have become two of my closest friends in wrestling. They've done a lot to advance my career. I can't stand the idea of them fighting each other. I have only two wishes concerning the Hall-Nash feud. That it's over quickly. And that neither gets hurt. Because once Hall and Nash are done pounding each, done taking the heart out of each other and exorcising whatever demons each might possess concerning the other, I have a hunch that they'll exchange a sincere Wolfpac high-five and reunite. I think they'll realize that they're a lot better together than they are apart. And I think they'll realize who the real enemy is. And I think you already realize who that enemy is. Brother. Hogan is wrestling's biggest star ever. But as a human being, well, guys like him come and go. They have no concept of loyalty or friendship. It's always me, me, me. But Scott Hall and Kevin Nash are 4 life. They're just not 4 right now.
