Glow as Ember inception: fall of of 1998- an idea to become the first Emo band in the Red River Valley- located in the frequently bitter cold north eastern sect of North Dakota. "H." was convincing Benjamin to come join a band with him up in Landmark, Manitoba. Realizing that the hour and a half commute would be a horrendous stretch, they opted to recruit local talent instead. "H." recalled a female vocalist, Heather Bigwood, in which he had commenced in informal jam sessions while performing his onsite computer repairs to her family's computer. After throwing out the band's vision and describing what trials an indie band has to go through, Heather excitingly was in- filling in the vocalist void and Glow as Ember was now born.
The group's name began as a temporary one until a better one could be created. After some flattering comments that it's such a beautiful and emo-esque sounding name- it may stick around for a little while longer. "H." and Benjamin play guitar and bass guitar, respectfully. Interestingly, vowing to never touch a bass/drums in a band ever again, "H." opts to program bass/drum rhythm tracks if Benjamin writes on guitar during pre-production stages of songs. Heather's warm and beautiful tone glues the ever-developing sound- a concoction of their emo/hardcore/pop influences.

Through the fall of 1998, Glow as Ember wrote songs and prepared for their inevitable "H."'s Cellar performance in March of 1999. Still very immature in their sound, the band recorded their first pre-production demo in November (which featured and never played nor released songs, "Boy of my Dreams" and "Struggling"). The infancy stages of "Starstruck Promises" and "Ghost of Spring" were tracked as well. With this tape, family members were 'treated' to the early stages of the band- with tapes supposedly shipped to Arizona and Nashville of all places.
Once again, the group went back into the studio for a "promotion only" pre-production demo in February of 1999 (which featured and never played nor released, "Wishfully Together") The infancy stages of "Tranquil(ity)","Evergreen", and "Hamster Wheel" were included on the tape as well as a more definitive form of "Starstruck Promises"(clocking in at a mere 7 minutes) and their version of Starflyer 59's "Blue Collar Love". For future goals, the group plans to perform the infamous Southern Manitoba circuit, as well as the Western Minnesota and Eastern North Dakota areas. One more pre-production demo has been speculated for June of 1999 as well as a definitive official demo/six song EP which would include a "radio/video friendly" version of "Starstruck promises" for a March 2000 elease. A production team has been rumored to team up with the group to co-produce this project. Festivals such as Southern Manitoba's Levelground and Minnesota's Friendship Fest have surfaced in talks.

Ember Crew: M.Falk, M.Colonval, S.Krahn, D.Zacharias

In November of 99, the band recruited PJ Tangedahl of Bismarck, ND to stabilize and localize the drummer position that Derek Zacharias(the Rock Band), Matt Colonval(10 to 1), Marty Falk(Chet and the Hardys), or Suzy Krahn(Panic Button) assisted as guest musicians on stage.

...more to come.
