Oh,
today I got off class early.
Maybe due to the fact that the Stockholm
Water Festival started
today, and Lord, is the city crowded or what.
I had some trouble getting onto the subway because of all the
people.
Oh well.
Another thing that struck me this morning also on the subway,
is that poverty is more widespread (at least in Stockholm) than
you might think.
Two persons, who were living on the street (at least that´s what
they claimed and, judging by the looks of them, I have no reason
to doubt it) asked me for some spare money today, and well...I
just couldn´t...
say no, although I´m not sure it´s a good idea to give money
to
them, as it is kind of an "obligation" to give to anyone in that
position who asks for it.
I have to admit though, that the whole situation is very
embarassing...
Just to stand there and look at the poor guy, dressed in rags,
smelling beer and dirt, making his way through the car, asking people
for some change. And, most people won´t even bother to talk to
him...if lucky, they shake their heads with a sad smile, but more than
often, they simply look the other way and act like they´ve
seen nothing,
heard nothing...
The way us humans take care of each other really makes me sick
sometimes.
