Homer notices Lenny and Carl are acting strangely. He follows them after work to an ominous-looking temple, where they perform in a strange ceremony with Moe, Chief Wiggum, and others. Homer learns that they are all members of The Stonecutters, an exclusive, secret organization. He discovers that Grampa is also a member, which guarantees Homer membership. He survives the initiation ceremony and is inducted by the club's leader, Number One. After Homer joins The Stonecutters, his popularity soars. However, he uses sacred parchment as a table napkin and is stripped of his membership. As Number One kicks Homer out, he discovers a distinct birthmark on Homer's back that identifies him as The Stonecutters' true leader. The Stonecutters rejoice that The Chosen One has arrived. Homer's initial enthusiasm with his new role soon fades as his disciples pander to his every whim. When Homer takes Lisa's suggestion that he use his power to help others in the community.
