The Beginning
- Before 10,000 BC - migration from Asia to North America across Bering Strait.
- 9,000 BC - Stone butchering tools made in Clovis, New Mexico
- 1,000 BC - Earliest rockart in California
- 500 BC - first moundbuilding cultures, Mississippi valley.
- 300 AD - Hohokam people develop irrigation in the Southwest.
- 1,000 AD - Norse Seafarers land along northeast coasts; temporary settlements in newfoundland
The Beginning of America
- 1492 - Christopher Columbus lands
- 1497 - John Cabot claims New England fo Henry 7th
- 1565 - Spanish settlement in St. Augustine, Florida.
- 1579 - Francis Drake lands on Northern Califonian coast claiming land for England
- 1584 - Walter Raleigh claims the Atlantic coast for England
- 1607 - First English settlement at Jamestown, Virginia.
- 1619 - First black slaves sold in Virginia.
- 1624 - First Dutch settlement along the Hudson river.
- 1664 - British take over Dutch settlement renaming New Amsterdam to New York.
- 1759 - British defeat French in Battle of Quebec.
- 1763 - Peace of Paris gives Britain control of Canada and everything south of the Mississippi.
- 1773 - Declaration of Independance
- 1775 - Revolutionary war begins near boston (Lexington and Concord).
- 1776 - American colonies sign Declaration of Independance

- 1778 - Captain James Cook lands on the Hawaiian islands.
- 1781 - British surrender at Yorkstown.
- 1783 - Treaty of Paris, US independance from Britain.
- 1789 - George Washington elected first president of United States.
- 1800 - Washington DC becomes US capital.
- 1803 - Louisiana purchased from France, doubles area of US territory.
- 1845 - Annexation of Texas.
- 1846 - Oregon territory acquired from Britain; USA declares war on Mexico.
- 1849 - California Gold Rush, 80,000 immigrants arrive.
- 1861 - Abraham Lincoln becomes president.
- 1863 - Emancipation of slavery.
- 1865 - Southern forces surrender, Lincoln assasinated.
- 1867 - Alaska purchased from Russia.
- 1880 - New York population succeeds 1 million.
- 1881 - gunfight at the OK corral.
- 1883 - Brooklyn bridge opens.
- 1906 - San Francisco earthquake and fire.
