THE AWFUL RESULTS OF SIN
Genesis 4:6-8
- Intro.
- the life of the first person born on earth is tragic
- it reveals to us the awful & tragic results of sin
- sin should never be taken lightly or thought little of
- we need to understand how terrible sin is
- this should cause us to hate sin
- it should cause us to repent of sin & turn to Christ for salvation
- it should cause the Christian to walk closer to God
- let us see how sin brought awful results into the life of Cain
- sin brings deception
- he was deceived about the right offering - 4:3-5
- he had made an offering and it was rejected
- God told Cain that "sin lieth at the door" - 4:7
- sin had deceived him about worship and offerings
- many think that a good life will get them to heaven
- many think that recited prayers are heard by God
- many think that being a member of a church will get them to heaven
- he was deceived about God’s judgment
- he thought that nothing would happen for killing Abel
- judgment is sure to come (God confronts him) - 4:9-12 (11-12)
- Cain was so deceived about the judgment that when it came it was more than he could bear - 4:13
- BEWARE
of the deceitfulness of sin – payday is coming
- sin brings dissatisfaction
- this was a characteristic of Cain’s life
- dissatisfied with his self made religion - 4:5
- dissatisfied with his brother - 4:8
- dissatisfied with the penalty of sin - 4:13
- sin never does satisfy - Romans 3:14-17
- dissatisfaction is the root cause of alcoholism and immorality
- they are unhappy with self
- they want to be socially acceptable
- the dissatisfaction of sin can only be cured by Christ
- sin brings division
- the first sin brought separation of man from God
- the second sin brought separation of man from man
- sin divides brothers, sisters, and friends (jealousy)
- sin in marriage brings divorce
- sin causes the generation gap
- sin causes prejudice and racial hatred
- sin divides but Christ unites
- sin brings destruction
- sad note for the human race – the first to die was murdered by a brother
- sin always brings destruction
- disobeyed God
- angry with God
- angry with brother
- killed his brother and ruined his own life
- sin will ruin us if we don’t forsake it
- sin brings damnation
- it is one thing to be cursed by a man, but altogether something else to be cursed by God (eternal)
- sin brings the curse of God - Eze. 18:4 & Rom. 6:23
- Christ brings salvation _ Rom. 5:8-9 & II Cor. 5:21
- Christ bore our sins on the cross
- He accepted responsibility for our sins
- He suffered the penalty for our sins
- faith is Jesus Christ will bring forgiveness and salvation - Acts 16:30-31 & 4:12
