GLORY
I Peter 5:10-11
Intro.
- we know that when we die, we have a home in heaven
- our home in heaven is the result of what Jesus Christ has done for us
- our text speaks of something far more than a home in heaven - "eternal glory"
- our knowledge of the eternal state is very limited - I Corinthians 2:9
- God enables the Christian to have a view of the things that await us - I Corinthians 2:10&12
- our knowledge is still very limited, because the mortal tongue cannot fully describe the heavenly scene
- the glory which awaits the saints is ranked among the deep things of God
- what is the destiny of the saints - "called us unto his eternal glory"
- glory
- does not this word astound us, for surely it belongs to God alone
- the Bible does say glory, so it must mean glory for it never exaggerates
- glory for us who deserve eternal shame
- glory for us who are often ashamed of ourselves
- this glory has been promised
- David expected to be received into glory - Psalm 73:24
- he knew that he did not follow the Lord in vain
- even in those days when the gospel light was still very dim
- David also spoke of this glory in Psalm 84:11
- nothing good, under the headings of grace and glory, will be withheld
- no good thing of heaven will be withheld from the saints
- David was firmly convinced of this, and so can we
- Jesus has suffered and entered into His glory, and we know that we shall be with Him - John 14:3
- we have been called to this glory
- the people of God have been predestined (that which God is going to do for the saved)
- He has called us to be priest and kings
- He has called us to wear a crown of life that fadeth not away
- He has called us to reign with Christ in glory
- if the Lord had not meant for us to have the glory, He would not have called us (God does not mock)
- He would not have received us unto Himself, if He did not intend to keep us eternal preserved
- as a believer we are called to glory, no question about it
- glory cannot be separated from salvation - II Tim 2:10
- we are being prepared to be partakers of His glory
- this process is going on in us every day in the work of sanctification
- the greater the sanctification the greater the glory - II Corinthians 3:18
- everything is working together for our good, even our afflictions - II Corinthians 4:17
- our greatest loses produce our greatest gains
- our deepest sorrows produce our richest joys
- our present fellowship with Christ is our guarantee of it - Romans 8:17
- being ridiculed, slandered and despised for Christ’s sake will allow us to share in His honor & glory
- let us take up the cross, for it leads to the crown
- he that shares in the battle shall partake in the victory
- this glory is for our entire person (both body & soul) - I Corinthians 15:41-43
- what a wonderful change that will be for our frail, feeble & suffering body
- the blind shall see, the lame shall walk, the deaf shall hear & the dumb shall sing praise to God
- we will carry none of our deficiencies or infirmities into heaven
- it shall be an immortal body (no graves in glory)
- the risen body shall be greatly increased in power (sown in weakness, raised in power)
- God truly says a lot about the glory that awaits us (what a future, what a destiny)
- the nature of this glory
- the saints destiny is glory, but what is glory?
- to man it is fame, power, conquest, and the noise of applause
- the Queen of Sheba came from afar to see the glory of Solomon
- the glory of a rare wisdom
- the glory of immense riches
- Jesus said that the flower of the field had more glory than Solomon and all his riches
- all of what man thinks of as glory is a dim shadow of what God means
- God’s people shall be wise and famous, for they shall shine as the stars forever and ever
- God’s people shall be rich, for the streets of their home will be paved with gold
- God’s people shall be honored, for they shall be priest and kings
- the glory of a saint means a purified character
- the brightest glory that anyone can have is the glory of character
- God’s glory among men is His goodness, mercy, justice and truth
- one day we shall be just like Him
- when God finishes His work in us there will be no trace of sin left
- the glory of a saint is to become a far superior being - I John 3:2
- we shall not always be as we are today, hampered by our little knowledge & our dull perception
- what a man will become when he is remade in the image of God, we can scarcely tell
- in this life we are but a seed, out of which will come the flower & glory of a nobler being
- there is room for the largest expectation here, as to what will be the full accomplishment of divine love
- the glory of a saint is to have complete victory
- victory over sin, death and hell
- honor belongs to those who have fought a good fight, and have kept the faith
- it will be no small glory to wear the crown of life which fadeth not away
- another ingredient of glory is divine approval
- it is a man’s glory when he is honored by a king
- the Lord will reward His own with His holy favor
- one day Jesus is going to say, "Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom…" - Matt. 25:34
- we shall dwell in the immediate presence of God
- we shall dwell with Him in nearest & dearest fellowship - "He hath called us unto His eternal glory"
- the glory which the saints will have is the same glory that God possesses
- this glory shall never end - "His eternal glory"
- what influence should this have on us
- a desire to have it (salvation is in Christ)
- fear and trembling lest by any means we should come short of it
- if we are saved it should move us to gratitude
- for the saved it should give boldness & courage, for we are more than victors
