THE REMOVAL OF THE CURSE

Galatians 3:10-13

  1. the curse came from the law of God - Galatians 3:10
    1. the law of God is holy and perfect
    2. many do not understand the purpose or intent of God’s Law
    3. the Law is one of the most outstanding works of God
      1. no human could have set forth such a law
      2. all human laws that are good are found in God’s Law
    4. the biggest mistake that man can make is to think that the law is a means of salvation
      1. God never intended for man to be saved by the Law - Galatians 3:11
      2. when spoken on Mt. Sinai, it was with thunder, fire and smoke - Ex. 20:18
      3. it was written in stone: it was a hard, cold Law that would have no mercy on us
      4. those who trust in the Law for salvation, do not understand God design for the Law
    5. the Law was given to make man know his guilt, but never to save them
      1. the Law has given us a knowledge of sin
      2. the Law reveals the curse under which we are all living
      3. the Law cannot bring the blessings of God to us
    6. blessings are found in the gospel, but only curses in the Law
  2. the curse of the Law
    1. a universal curse
      1. it is upon every seed of Adam - Romans 5:12
      2. some think that the curse is only on those that live wicked lives
      3. the truth is: we are all under the curse
        1. the moral, the lovely, the upright
        2. all are cursed, if they have not been born again
      4. God’s Law is so strict that one offense will bring condemnation - Galatians 3:10
      5. there is no hope of mercy from the Law, but there is a hope of mercy in Christ - Galatians 3:13
    2. the curse is just
      1. this is where a great difficulty lies
        1. it is easy to accept the fact that the truly wicked are under the curse
        2. it is hard to believe that this curse is upon those who seem to live right
      2. God is just and right in all that He does
      3. "just a little sin" - how little trouble would it have been to avoid it
      4. if the sin be small, how small the cost to refrain from it
      5. in the smallness of sin, we see its greatness
      6. a little sin is of the same essence as all sin (rebellion)
    3. the curse is fearful
      1. some think little of the curse of God, but if they only knew the consequences
      2. the fearful consequences of the curse of God is enough to make your knees knock and hair stand up
      3. what does the curse include (death) (the wages of sin is death)
        1. physical death - the death of this body
        2. spiritual death - the death of the inner life, the death of our spirit
        3. eternal death - eternal separation from God, and dwelling forever in hell
      4. this curse is upon every man
        1. no exception for rank or reputation, because God has made none
        2. as far as the law is concerned we must die
          1. we are already dead spiritually
          2. we will die physically
          3. we will experience the eternal death if we are not born again
    4. it is a present curse - John 3:36
      1. it is not just a curse for the future
      2. if we do not believe in the Son of God, then we are the enemies of God
      3. the lost man is being injured by God, and he doesn’t even know it
  3. the removal of the curse
    1. it happens instantly - Romans 10:13
      1. the moment we ask Christ to save us the curse is remove
      2. it is a miraculous healing of our soul and spirit; it happens instantly, just like all the other miracles
      3. justification happens instantly; sanctification is a life long process
    2. it is a complete removal
      1. not just part of the curse is removed, but all of it
      2. when Christ forgives our sins, He forgives them all
    3. it is an irreversible removal
      1. once we have been pardoned, who can condemn us - Romans 8:33-34
      2. some believe that we can be a child of God today, and a child of the devil tomorrow
        1. will God pardon, and then condemn
        2. will God blot out our sins, and then rewrite them
        3. cannot Christ keep that which He saves
        4. is there anything that can separate us from the love of God - Romans 8:38-39
  4. how the curse is removed - Galatians 3:13
    1. the curse of God is not easily remove; in fact there is only one way (substitution)
    2. sin has to be paid for
    3. Jesus Christ took the curse upon Himself - "for us"
    4. Jesus Christ suffered and died for us, so that He might bring us to God
    5. the greatest teaching in the Bible is that Jesus died for me!!!
    6. has Jesus died for you?
