Other Things
To start things off, this section lists all of the changes made to the American version. This section is not complete by any means. These are all the changes that I know of. If you know of any changes, email me! I’m listing these changes in order that I think of them, not when they happened. They are mostly in order of happening though. This may change someday, but not now. If I ever say “we”, I mean all Americans that have seen the American, cut DBZ.

Changes Made to Short-End DBZ (Seasons 1 and 2)

First off, I’d like to say the major changes throughout the seasons. 1, no blood. 2, no blows to the head. 3, “Another Dimension.” Also, going with showing no blood, they cut out numerous scenes of violence. When a person kicks their foot towards another, we never see the kick connect, we just see the person fly back for some odd reason? That is an example of cutting violence scenes.

About 19% of the original episodes are cut out. Our first 53 is Japan’s first 65. Some episodes didn’t have any scenes cut, while sometimes whole episodes would go missing.

Radtiz Fight

You remember Gohan was lost somewhere in the beginning of the first episode? I don’t know the full details on this one, but he was lost somewhere in a city or farmstead. We don’t know why either.

The Farmer that shot Raditz. He was smoking a cig at the beginning. Also, when he got hit with his bullet, he was supposed to bleed and die. He never said, “That smarts.”

When Bulma first arrives at the Kami House, Master Roshi makes a gab for her. He does this throughout the series, so I won’t list it anymore.

When Bulma first arrived, Master Roshi had a mug of beer.

When Raditz has Gohan in his hand and Gohan’s crying, they editted out his tears (?!?!?!?)

When Piccolo’s arm gets blown off in the Raditz fight, his arm drips real blood.

The Raditz fight had lots of stuff cut at the end. Piccolo’s beam cannon should have gone through Raditz and Goku. They then fell from the sky, with bloody holes in their stomachs and blood in their mouths. When they landed, Piccolo killed Raditz. When Goku disappeared, there was blood left on the ground.

Also during the Raditz fight sometime, Ox King came over to Goku’s house bringing toys for Gohan (or books.)

Gohan’s Training

After Goku and Gohan were gone, Ox King played with some of Gohan’s toys on the kitchen table of Goku’s house.

While Gohan was training, Chi-Chi got the vision in her head that Gohan would fall in the water and get chased by a shark until he got to a desert island.

Up in heaven (after Goku died), while Goku is talking to King Yama (I think) there are many dead people waiting behind him, dressed in white clothes and with halos over their heads.

There was a scene about Kami talking that if Piccolo died, so would he.

Up in heaven, there were some people ordering food at a restaurant from a ghost-like guy (looks like a Ghost Kamikaze.)

Master Roshi’s sister (the witch on the crystal ball) was up in the heaven restaurant ordering food.

Gohan peed on a rock during training.

When Bulma was fixing the scouter, see shot up Master Roshi and Krillin with a gun for some reason (see was mad at them).

After Bulma fixed the scouter, they went around and found everybody and saw what their power level was.

During Gohan’s training, a squirrel ate his apple cores.

Gohan peed off the ledge that he was stuck on.

After turning Oozaru, we saw his butt.

Gohan was wondering around in some tunnels/caves and he found some sort of broken down machinery.

After Gohan pulled the stick out of the dinosaur, the dinosaur bleed on the ground.

During the Baseball Battle with Yamcha, we never saw Yamcha smacking people over the head with a bat.

I don’t know why, but Gohan must of been signing a song or something in this picture (?)

Ever heard of Lunch? Ever seen her? In Dragonball Z? Well, she’s Tien’s “Girlfriend” and see was doing something during Gohan’s training. I don’t know what, but I’ve seen pictures of her on a motorcycle with guns (?)

We catch a glimpse inside Tien’s house (I think) Lunch is there and is mad at Tien for some reason. “Mean” Lunch sneezes and changes back to “Nice” Lunch.

HFIL is actually “HELL.” See how they edited it?

Tien and Choatzu climbed up the tower leading to Kami’s lookout.

Lunch was walking around an Indian camp for some reason.

Down in HFIL, there are RVs laying around and everybody is going to “Needle’s Mountain.”

In Princess Snake’s castle, Goku got out of his bath butt naked in front of Princess Snake.

One of Princess Snakes hands played Russian Roulette and lost.

Ox King was making tea (or some food)

There was more to the race between Gohan and the Saber-toothed Tiger then we saw.

There are more scenes in a town, and Gohan is pouting in the street.

Some girl gets her clothes ripped off.

Some kid punches Gohan in the face.

During the fight between Tien, Yamcha, Choatzu and Krillin and the Saiyans, one of the Saiyans grabbed Choatzu’s head and squeezed. Everybody bleed when they got hit by the Triangle beams.

When Piccolo trained Gohan, Piccolo smacked is hands over Gohan’s head.

Another mug of beer was cut.

We never saw Gohan’s butt after the second transformation.

On King Kai’s planet, King Kai and Bubbles are sitting in a tree.

After Gohan’s training on one day, Gohan had a lump on his face.

Gohan fought many battles with Piccolo with the lump on his head.

Yajirobe beat up Krillin on Kami’s Lookout.

King Kai explained the Saiyans in the form of a song.

During Goku’s training, part or all of King Kai’s house was destroyed.

Fight With Vegeta and Nappa

When the Saiyans arrived, the two sickest dubs happened. Vegeta and Nappa never destroyed an abandoned part of the city (“We destroyed an abandoned part of the city. That'll teach ‘em!”) They destroyed a whole capital city. And Nappa never saw the helicopter’s pilot’s parachutes (“Oh there’re alright, I can see their parachutes.”)

A Saibeman died a horrible, messy death.

Yamcha was left in a crater.

Master Roshi grabbed Bulma’s butt.

Tien’s arm had some gooey blood come out of it after it was ripped off.

After Tien and Chaotzu died, there are numerous scenes and flash backs of them together.

The fight between Gohan and Nappa was brutal.

When Goku arrived, his fight with Nappa was longer.

When Goku arrived, he looked at all the dead Z Warriors.

Vegeta and Goku fought a more violent battle.

We never saw Lunch for a third time either. She was in a town drinking.

The town Lunch was in had dark clouds over it. Birds were leaving the town also.

Goku’s father never was a scientist, and he didn’t invent anything. He was a low level fighter.

Goku bleed a lot from the mouth during the Vegeta and Goku fight.

When Gohan arrived, Vegeta beat him up a lot.

Vegeta almost/did stepped on Goku’s head.

After Goku was defeated, Vegeta, Gohan and Krillin went at it. Lots of facial bleeding here.

Vegeta beat up Yajirobie really bad.

When Goku told Krillin to spare Vegeta’s life, Goku talked a whole lot longer. It was a dramatic scene, took a lot of the episode.

Between the end of the Vegeta fight and the part where they say, “Let’s go to Namek!” was a whole episode. In that episode, Roshi, Krillin, Bulma, and the others found the bodies to their fallen friends. They put them in body chambers and loaded them into the ship. Krillin looks back on the battle and deaths of it. Then, there is a flashback on Piccolo’s life story.

Namek

To start things off, Master Roshi makes another grab at Bulma.

While everybody was in the hospital, Gohan tried escaping. He walked along the building edge, climbed up the side, and made it to the top, with Chi-Chi waiting for him! I guess he won’t get to do the training he wanted.

After Gohan was back in the hospital room, Goku told Gohan to hit him as hard as he could. Goku caught Gohan’s fist half way through the punch and smiled.

On the Namekian spaceship that Krillin Bulma and Gohan were on, part of the time, Bulma was lying around in her underwear reading and drinking soda. When they emerged on to the Mirror Ship, Bulma forgot to put on pants.

After they emerged for their ship into the Mirror Ship, half an episode was cut out. When they started walking through the ship, Krillin had a hat that said “Kame” on it. About five seconds later, it was gone. Where did it go? We never saw him take it off. Well, I’ll tell ya. Krillin, Gohan, and Bulma spend over half the episode walking through the ship, finding traps around every corner. They defeated these traps as they went, but in one of them, Krillin’s hat was knocked into outer space.

The people on the Mirror Ship, they are all children! They are orphans. This could explain why they set up traps, why the pilot couldn’t fly the ship well, why they were so short, etc.

While Goku was in the hospital, he was given a shot. And we all know how much he hates shots! Similar to what happened on Namek, only better. I guess this scene was too violent, that’s why they cut it (not!!!)

After Goku gets his shot, back on the Mirror Ship, the kids explain their past. Frieza and Co. Killed off all their parents. Before all the parents died, they loaded the kids onto the Mirror Ship and sent them away.

When Bulma, Krillin, and Gohan landed on “Namek,” one of the “Namekians” smoked a “cigar” and rummaged through the ship and all their clothes.

After Vegeta got out of the Isolation Chamber for the first time, he talked to the worker there. He said he couldn’t reconstruct Vegeta’s tail, and Vegeta was standing there naked. Another “butt” picture that was cut.

When we first got a glimpse of Frieza and his cronies, there were Nameks lying around moaning. They weren’t really moaning, they were dead.

As Krillin and Gohan looked around Namek, there were various scenes of dead Nameks on the ground.

They cut out some of Kui’s death. We never saw Vegeta scatter his armor and punch him in the stomach.

On Earth again, Dr. Briefs was smoking, and Bulma’s mom had a mug of beer.

Dr. Briefs never complained about where to put the cappuccino machine, he wondered were to put the Stereo Speakers.

On Namek, the battle between the three Nameks and Frieza’s man, after everybody was dead, we never saw the bodies lying on the ground.

Dodoria punched a Namek so hard his fist went inside his stomach.

A Namek burns alive at Dodoria’s mouth blast.

The third Namek Dodoria fought, he threw him against a mountain. As he slid down, blood smeared on the wall.

Dodoria smashes his face against the elder Namek.

The other little Namek next to Dende, that’s Kargo.

Frieza never fired a “warning” shot. He shot past eldest Namek’s head. The blast traveled and hit Kargo.

Dodoria punches the eldest Namek in the face, and twists his head, snapping his neck.

Bulma didn’t just “know” Goku was coming to Namek. Dr. Briefs called her up on his handy-dandy little phone. The reason this wasn’t shown was because Bulma was taking a bath at the time. She was covered in bubbles non the less, but, it’s still puzzling why the edit was made. In numerous episodes off the “American, edited,” version, Bulma takes a bath...

Dodoria’s head was torn off my Vegeta.

Remember when Goku’s Capsule Ship went off course and toward that star? Good. Hard to believe an edit was made here. The attack Goku used to move himself away from the star wasn’t a Kamehameha, it was a Kaiouken.

Vegeta kills a Namek, we saw that, but we didn’t see him hit the ground.

Dead Namek’s litter that village grounds.

When Vegeta is in the Namekian village, there is an elder holding a baby Namek in his hands. Vegeta then kills the elder with a blast. No edit right? Wrong! The elder was holding a baby Namek, but one or two frames before the blast hit, the baby disappeared due to Funimations magical painters.

Tenshinhan’s joke that he tells to King Kai is, “I’ll tell you the secret of the nose snot, the snot nose. The snot KNOWS!”

Remember when Zarbon headbutted Vegeta. We never saw his head hit right? So what would’ve we have seen? Just Vegeta spit out blood and a big wound appear across his head.

Too many edits happened in the Zarbon/Vegeta battle. The battle should’ve been longer, but, you know FUNimation, they gotta cut out any think that looks violent.

Piccolo’s past is explained again, but, Piccolo Daimaou isn’t explained this go round either.

When one of Frieza’s cronies arrives at the village Vegeta destroyed, there is one Namek left. He asks him a question, then puts a hole through him.

The fight on at King Kai’s place is a little butchered. Piccolo severely beat on Chaoutzu.

The biggest edit of all time! Tenshinhan punches Piccolo in the face. Come on, you remember this one people. It’s obvious what’s happening, even with that huge blurred spot over his face.

Once Vegeta is out of the healing tank, he kills one of Frieza’s men, then steps on his head.

Gohan’s visit to the Namekian village was totally messed up. After seeing all the dead bodies, Gohan buries them all and gives them all grave markers. This part would’ve been so cool to see, but FUNi edited it out.

Goku’s Ship in the magnetic storm, remember that part? Here goes: Goku was hanging from that rope on the ceiling right? Well, when the gravity shifted down, it caused him to get yanked down. Can we say “rope burn.” Goku’s hand was just covered in blood.

Vegeta never punched Zarbon into the lake like we saw. Vegeta punched his hand through Zarbon’s armor, into his stomach, then did a blast, which sent him into the lake. I don’t like Zarbon would’ve been screaming as he flew through the air either.

Remember when Vegeta kneed Gohan in the stomach, when Gohan had hide the Dragonball? Well, we missed the part of Vegeta stepping on Gohan’s head.

The flashback Bulma had on Namek, it was never supposed to have a voice over, it was supposed to be silent. Also, we missed the part of Bulma giving someone the finger.

Bulma’s two captors did have names. The Alligator-dog-faced guy was Blueberry, the human-like guy, Rasberry

Goku’s ship was arriving on Namek. Before it landed, Goku took a bath, no harm right? Remember how Goku jumped into the bath, there was a towel covering up his butt. That towel wasn’t supposed to be there.

When Vegeta and Krillin were outside of Guru’s hut, some edits were made there too (no way!) Vegeta flipped the bird at Krillin. Another edit happened also. Remember how Gohan walked out of the hut, Vegeta looked surprised, well, that’s because Vegeta thought Goku was in the house, so when Gohan stepped out, it surprised him.

Ginyu Force

The first edits happen during the Guldo fight. When Guldo had Krillin and Gohan caught in his web, there were edits made, can ya tell? It was when Guldo punched Krillin and Gohan in the face. We never knew that they were being punched, we thought that was just a blurry spot (yeah right.)

The real death of Guldo. Vegeta sliced his head off. Guldo’s head fell off his shoulders, rolled on the ground, then talked to Vegeta! It said that the fight was supposed to be between him and Krillin and Gohan and we couldn’t believe he was beaten by a monkey.

Recoome wasn’t as stupid was FUNimation made him. Recoome is very smart (!) he just acts cocky and goofy. Recoome’s lines were all messed up (but who’s wasn’t.) I guess some Japanese DBZ watchers won’t forgive two things:
1: Recoome’s stupid attack names and 2: “My name in Recoome, it rhymes with doom, and you’ll be hurting all to soon!”

The Ginyu Force mocked Vegeta all the time right, well not as much as Japan. In Japan, the Ginyu Force kept calling Vegeta, “Vegeta-chan.” “Chan” in Japanese is used with little girls only, as an affectionate term. Oops, I guess Vegeta doesn’t like being called “Vegeta-chan.”

A major scene was cut out from the Recoome right. Somehow, Recoome got the seat of his spandex blown out, so there are numerous spots of Recoome’s butt. All we got was a mysterious black spot there...

Remember when Recoome kicked Krillin and Krillin stayed down for the fight. I always thought Krillin was just plain wimpy, but I guess Recoome’s kick busted Krillin’s neck.

There are numerous things cut out from the Recoome/Gohan fight.

When Goku landed in his ship, there was no Computerized voice telling Goku that they were landing and such, it was silent. It was a very tense moment.

Remember when Vegeta was talking to himself about a SSJ? Well, that never happened. The first Super Saiya-jin never killed himself, and he wasn’t born 3,000 years ago. Vegeta said once every thousand years or a one in a thousand chance a SSJ would happen. Also, that little SSJ scene didn’t have Vegeta’s voice explaining everything.

Recoome flipped the birdie.

Vegeta did talk about something, Goku’s punch/elbow to Recoome. Vegeta said it wasn’t that powerful, but when it hit, it released a large amount of energy.

The last part of the second scene is butchered. Ginyu did not have a try out to find new members for the force. He using the people to come up with new poses for his team. The first guy that was thrown away wasn’t a Captain. Ginyu never told them to run for their lives, he said that whoever touches the Dragonballs gets two pieces of caramel. That explains why they ran to him, not away from him.

Unfinished

This section is far from complete. If there are any edits I missed, tell me. Also, I don’t have many edits down for season three and four, but I know they’re out there. They don’t actually cut out any scenes, or not as much, but they do butcher the dialogue a lot. I don’t want dialogue edits, unless they’re important. I just want scene edits. Thanks you.

Later.
