Athol Murray College of Notre Dame is located in the rural farming village of Wilcox, Saskatchewan, 45 Km South of Regina. Founded by the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis in 1920 as 'Notre Dame of the Prairies' as a coeducational residential school. In 1927, the Sisters were joined by Père Athol Murray and a group of boys who followed him to Wilcox from Regina.
Within St. Augustine's words, "To him who does what in him lies, God will not deny His Grace" lies the driving force behind Athol Murray College of Notre Dame. Upon reading this prayerful thought, James Athol Murray (Père) charted a new course for his life. Committing himself to God, he entered the priesthood. These very words directed his entire life. Today they ring loudly and have become the mission statement of the small prairie college, which now bears his name. The miracles of this Shack College propelled it to international renown and was a place where youth of the Depression could receive the education that would change their lives. More often than not the tuition fee were paid with bags of potatoes or coal. It was not your means to pay but your desire to change your life that opened the door to a Notre Dame education. Overflowing with rich history Notre Dame has moved from it's rag-tag beginning to a modern campus covering 50 acres.
Today Athol Murray College of Notre Dame is Canada's largest independent coeducational residential high school with programs rooted in the Catholic traditions. Père created the motto that exemplifies the character of a Hound "Luctor et Emergo" - "Struggle and Emerge". The Notre Dame experience builds leaders through the challenges that are faced daily by our family of students and staff.
Our Hounds have earned respect internationally for their achievements in academics and athletics. A special emphasis is placed on our hockey program - our Hounds have won 48 provincial and four national championships. Notre Dame has provided solid training to more than 100 players drafted by the National Hockey League and many Hounds have represented their counties internationally at the Olympic Games and World Championships.
Highlights of Notre Dame's historic campus are the Tower of God, St. Augustine's Church, Notre Dame Archives and Museum, Lane Hall, Arena, Gym and Training Complex, Houndshop, Classroom and Lab buildings, and the new and renovated residential Halls that provide home for 400 Hounds.
