2nd July =Convention Day, all six hours of it, and how ace they were too. At first there was the obvious “I’m a bit too shy and sober to get the dancing going” but that soon disappeared. The bands were a bit loud, it was *such* an effort to talk to the person next to you, but on the whole they were ok. I certainly preferred the Djing which included Suede(obvious connection), the Clash (obvious) and Radiohead (not quite as obviously connected to Mansun but kind of if you look into it).
To see photos which will be up very soon or to hear about other meetups go to Lizzy’s Meetup Site.
We were graced with some of the new tracks which were Comes As No Surprise and Soundtrack 4 2 Lovers (and ICODU with they played, *kaching* three times). S42L was hyped by Kate (the Laid Back Hen) and rightly so. It was very very Mansun with the now default emotional vocals and The Chad Who loved Me-esque stings. ‘Monumental’ describes it. Then CANS, well I didn’t hear all of it coz I only thought “um…, I recognise that voice” halfway through, but what I did hear was ace, quite weird (but not Six weird).
The free fanzine: if you haven’t got it or ordered it DO IT NOW!!! The photos are amazing, they do get more gorgeous as they get older (and wiser:) ).
The Tribute band, Little Kix, surprisingly has seven members: Chad/Matt Lancs (accurate impersonation with chest wig for good measure), Stove/Matt Wales (also accurate), 2 Pauls/ Paul Annett/ Adam Gelham (I’m sure that if you combined them you would actually get Pauly D, the singing was cool and the hips swivelled and turned properly), Andie/Lisa Chapman (well, no offence, but unless Andie has long purple hair and tits it wasn’t too precise looking but that can’t be helped, oh, they playing was good), and 2 backing singers/Jess White/Kirtsy Fidock (luckily for us not the two from TFI). The crowd went wild, the screaming and the moshing and the singing along. They did play the most unlikely songs…GSOH?!? Vision Impaired?!? And the usual ones: EMW, TIEC, Taxlo$$. It was brilliant, seriously check them out if you can.
There were a few disappointments: no tv with videos (but we’ve seen them all before), only one T-shirt stall (it was very good though, I bought two), no lemon Bacardi Breezers, the easiest quiz in the world which was a waste of time, might as well have put everyone’s names into a hat and pulled anyone out. Example questions: name the three Mansun albums and years of release, who likes James Bond?…
But who cares coz I got spend six hours in great company and I heard some of the tracks. Great night out.
