THE PEACE GARDEN STATE

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Our first stop today will be in Rugby.
They have a bit of information
that I never knew before!

The town of Rugby is the geographical
center of North America.
A rock obelisk about 21 feet tall,
flanked by three poles
one flying the United States flag and
another the Canadian flags, marks the spot.

Rugby Courthouse.

A beautiful surprise!

The Main entrance to the
International Peace Gardens!

More than a quarter million people
from all over the world
visit these gardens every year!

And there's more!

Amid the birch and aspen forest
of The Turtle Mountains,
the 2300-acre International Peace Garden
blooms on either side of the U.S - Canadian border
commemorating more than 150 years of peace
between the two nations.
The Cairn on the exact line of the border is inscribed
"We two nations dedicate this garden,
and pledge that as long as man shall live,
we will not take up arms against one another."

Very Patriotic!

Showing the colors!

And here is another view!

Isn't this awe-inspiring?

It would take all day to see all of the gardens!

Can you find a kitten among the flowers?
Cammy can!

What about this?

Perfectly beautiful!

Another lovely picture.

The fountain area.

The Towers

These majestic towers are 120 feet high
and are surrounded with sunflowers!

What a wonderful place this is!

Many thanks to our neighbors, the Canadians,
for sharing this beautiful garden with us.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our next stop will be Walhalla, in Pembina county,
the north east corner of North Dakota.
Walhalla
If you look off in the distance
you can see part of the town,
one of the oldest in the county!
In Walhalla
The Country Club.
Sportsmans Paradise.
Enjoying the day!
On the trail.
Great sport!
The area between the Canadian border
and Walhalla is part of the Pembina Hills
and one of the few wilderness areas
left in the State.
Trading Post
I would think that a lot of furs
have been bought and sold in this place!
Pembina Gorge
The Pembina Gorge extends from
the Canadian border to just northwest of Walhalla
encompassing most of the largest
uninterrupted block of woodland
in North Dakota, approximately 12,500 acres
and the longest segment of unaltered
river valley in the State.
Another view.
What beauty!
Pembina River
It just keeps flowing along!
Pembina Museum.
The Observation Tower offers
a grand view of the Red River Valley.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

After leaving Pembina county
we passed this field of yellow!

A field of Canola!!

After awhile we came to a restaurant.

The Blue Goose.

We ate outside and the food was delicious!

Now we must find lodging for the night.
Tomorrow we will continue down
the Red River Valley.
I wonder what is in store for us there?
