Liberty Lunch
Austin, Texas (01/30/99)

I just wanted to let you know that I also attended the Saturday concert for Semisonic here in Austin. Marwan (hope I spelled it correct) posted a great review but I just wanted to add a few things.

First, Remy Zero was very, very good!! You definitely get your money's worth just seeing this band live. And then to pair them with Semisonic was absolutely brilliant!

Second, Dan has new glasses. They are hard to describe but I'll do my best. They are black frames and are small with an oval shape to the lenses. I am not sure if I like them as much as his other pair. The black frames are a stark contrast to his face. The lenses do seem to make his eyes appear larger.

Third, Dan does not have any highlights in his hair anymore. His hair was all one color and appeared to be brownish red.

Fourth, I did get the chance to hang out after the show and get autographs. I just wanted to let you know that Dan said he had a "blinding migraine" and could barely see to write his name. But he spent time signing things for everyone and posing for pictures. The band was spending the night in Austin somewhere and Dan had a car waiting to drive him away. He got back on the tour bus to pack some things in an overnight bag and when he got back off, he stopped to sign even more autographs. I was quite impressed with his ability to be polite to people and socialize, even though he felt terrible. And there were a lot of people wanting his attention that night. I must say also that if he felt bad during the concert, it was never obvious.

Fourth, this was the second time I've seen the band. The first time was in May of last year and they were part of a benefit concert (only got to do a short set). This was my first full length Semisonic show. The concert was unbelievable!!! They had a fantastic light show and the sound was so impressive; the vocals and instruments were perfectly mixed and the sound was never distorted like so many concerts I've been to. They seem to have really worked hard to put on a first class show for their fans. And it's nice to know that they continue to put the fans first, even after the show.

I'm sad now because it will probably be a long time before they come back to Texas. I hope the rest of you that get to go to these upcoming shows will post and let us know your experiences. I'm normally a lurker but wanted to fill you in on my fantastic night with one of the greatest bands out there!
