Huawei Technologies' sales soar six-fold

BANGALORE: Huawei Technologies, the Chinese telecom and networking major, reported an impressive growth in the current fiscal with a six-fold increase in revenue over the last fiscal.

The company's sales revenue shot up from $47 million in 1999 to $275 million in 2000. Last year Huawei saw an excellent operational performance in its data communications equipment covering access servers, routers, Ethernet

switches, ISDN terminals and IP phone systems.

According to the company sources, sales of access servers totaled 1,500,000 ports- ten times more than the previous year's 136,000 ports, while sales of 33,000 router sets marked a five-fold increase as compared with the previous year's sales of 6000 sets.

Huawei's Quidway A8010, world's first access server captured 40 per cent of Chinese market within one year of its launch. Its current market share in China is around 60 per cent.

The IDC's second-season report has quoted that Huawei's routers have become China's main network equipment while holding a 13 per cent market share.

The company's constant focus on research and development, since its inception has enabled it to expand its operations worldwide with branch offices in over 40 countries, including India, for marketing and after sales service.

The Bangalore R&D centre of the company develops cutting-edge technologies that include wide band switching, embedded systems, 3G mobile communications, wireless infrastructure, network management, data communications, intelligent networks and IP applications like VoIP.

Huawei activities in India cover end-to-end ownership of products ranging from front-end process line and system conceptualisation to software development, testing and delivery.
