Broadband in the access network:
For access network, FCC defines broadband speed as a minimum of 384 Kbps.
Also 'broadband' term has been used to describe communication links or circuits--incorporating more than one channel--with very high transmission rates. For example, T1 has 24 channels over 4 wires, and CATV co-axial cable has many TV channels.
However, there is no specific speed limit for broadband. FCC felt that a speed of 200 Kbps is enough to enable users to surf through web pages as fast as one could flip through pages of a normal book, and to transmit/deliver full motion video.
